Thank you also to our senior students who donned their chef’s hats and helped with the catering for the event. They spent two mornings cooking many tasty scones, delicious apple and cinnamon muffins, sweet cupcakes and mouth-watering salted caramel biscuits. Our Year 5/6 students also helped serve our visitors and set up the classroom and assisted with the mountain of washing up after the event. Grandparents & Special Friends Day was an opportunity for students to show their grandparents their creativity and learning in their classrooms. It was great to see so many happy faces having a chat and enjoying a cuppa and the delicious treats. We can’t wait to do it all again next year.

K/1/2 News

K/1/2 got a little bigger on Wednesday. By bigger, we mean greater in numbers as we welcomed two of our three new kindergartens for 2020. They both seemed to settle in nicely and enjoyed the activities and stories we had prepared for them.

Our budding young artists completed their artworks for Griffith Regional Art Gallery with the theme ‘Mothers Love’. After much discussion, we decided we would go with the theme of native animals and their babies. Here are some of our artworks.

3/4 News

It was lovely to see so many visitors, grandparents, friends and family members attend last week’s ‘Grandparents Day and Special Friends’ event. Thank you to those who attended, and a massive congratulations to 5/6 and Mrs Liddicoat for the organisation. As part of our writing focus this term students will be examining poetry and devices used to create poems. This week 3/4 will be investigating the purpose, audience, and context of poems. As whole class text we will begin reading the text ‘Storm Boy’ developing comprehension. This week students will be focusing on predicting. During maths 3/4 will develop their recall of their multiples of 6 and further develop applying strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems. Last week the students completed their ‘Mother Love’ artworks. Below are some of the own representations of what ‘Mother’s Love’ looks like to them. These will be on display in the Griffith Art Gallery for the next few weeks.

5/6 News

Grandparents Day Catering

I want to start by acknowledging all the Year 5/6 students’ wonderful efforts catering, setting up, serving and packing up after Grandparents Day. Your enthusiasm and hard work made sure the day ran smoothly and no visitors went hungry. You certainly did a fantastic job and showed great responsibility.

We have finished reading the text Storm-Boy and will begin writing an information report on pelicans. In maths, we are learning about quadrilaterals and diagonal lines. Our focus in PD/Health is water safety.

Technology News

Students in Years 3-6 have been busy using both the school and Stem.T4L EV3 Lego kits to build rovers, mechanical arms, gyro boy robots and cute little robotic puppies. Once we have completed constructing them we will be coding them to make them move in various ways.
