5th — 9th October 2020 was Walk to School Week . We asked for pictures of something on your walk of the allocated colour in the table. As usual we had lots sent through! We have tried to feature as many as possible.

Monday — Red

Tuesday — Orange

Wednesday — Yellow

Thursday — Green

Friday — Blue

General picture — Purple

The week long challenge of being active and getting some exercise in the morning before arriving at school set us all up for a positive day; improving focus and concentration, and instilling a sense of physical and mental wellbeing.

Let’s continue this as there are many health benefits to walking! Exercise helps develop strong bones and increase muscle strength. Walking gets the heart pumping, which helps improve cognitive function for lessons throughout the school day. Remember it’s not just walking, any type of exercise is great, including cycling, riding your scooter or even running!

Please remember, if your child or anyone in your household becomes unwell with a new and persistent cough or a high temperature, or has a loss of, or change in, their normal sense of taste or smell, you or any member of your household must not come to the school. You should stay at home, arrange for a Coronavirus test as soon as you can and follow the advice of any medical professionals. Please contact the school by telephone to report your child’s absence from school.

Dear Parents/Carers,

Please could you return any reading books that were taken home before lock down in March 2020 to your child’s current class teacher. These will then be passed on to the year below.

Thank you.

The Gordonbrock

(Inspired by Benjamin Zephaniah’s poem The British)

Mix in some students, buzzing and chatting waiting to go inside, Sprinkle in some teachers, doing last minute planning,

Add the deputy head teachers writing out certificates, Then combine with some specialist teachers too.

Stir in lessons planned by the teachers, Blend with assemblies performed by staff and budding pupils,

Beat in play times and lunch times filled with children laughing and playing, Then knead in fun activities to learn with new people.

Now add in big children, little children and children in the middle, Rub in families from the UK and families who were born abroad,

Pour in single parents, two dads and two mums, Whisk together black, white, mixed race and Asian people,

What a brilliant rainbow mixture.

There are children and staff from all different genders, races and backgrounds, all joined together to form Gordonbrock school.

MRS WRIGHT’S READ OF THE WEEK

Sulwe by Lupita Nyong’o

Do you have a joke that we could publish in the weekly?

If so please send it in to the office..

Sulwe has skin the color of midnight. She is darker than everyone in her family. She is darker than anyone in her school.

Sulwe just wants to be beautiful and bright, like her mother and sister. Then a magical journey in the night sky opens her eyes and changes everything.
