Gorley Vale Riding Club Newsletter

December 2018

Hi all, Hope everyone is ready for Christmas, presents are bought and wrapped, tree is up and decorated, sprouts are on!

I am definitely not ready, we are supposed to be moving so don’t even know which house we’ll be in!! Hope Father Christmas will be able to find me!

What do elves learn at school??The Elfabet!!

Stuff we didSue Vass supported the South Downs Blood Hounds when they visited Hampshire -

On Remembrance Sunday, the South Downs Blood Hounds made a guest appearance at Tenantry Farm. I went to watch the meet, as I had never seen a blood hound pack. It was a beautiful sunny day. The meet was at 1pm, instead of the more usual 12 noon, in deference to Remembrance Day. There had been a lot of rain the night before, and as more and more horse lorries and cars pulling trailers arrived at the meet, the gateway become very close to being an impassable quagmire. However, by 1pm, all were mounted up and ready to go. Blood hounds hunt real people, running on a planned course. The event is made up of 4 or 5 “mini” runs, as the runners take it in turns to be the quarry

The Field of approximately 100 riders, and there were some very young ones, streamed off across the countryside. As it was at Tenantry Farm there were lots of jumping opportunities, although it took some time to get such a big field across each obstacle.

It was a

lovely event which I enjoyed watching.

What does Santa suffer from when he’s stuck in a chimney?Claws-trophobia!!December 8th – Christmas Spider Ride Thankyou Jo for organizing this ride, from the photos on FB it certainly looks as if everyone that went along had a good time. The fancy dress costumes looked amazing and in true GVRC style we forgot to get a prize, so everyone is a winner!!!

Here are Colin’s thoughts on the day… although in his photo he appears to have swapped his Icelandics for a couple of greys

I attended the spider ride last year, as well as the spring one, but did not think I would make it this year due to a slight issue the week before when I managed, in the dark to fall over the front ramp of my trailer-leaving me somewhat bruised and bashed. However, I decided to give it a go, but not to ride too far. So I boxed out to Cadmans Pond and part walked, part rode to the High Corner Post, getting on at ‘Rookery Nook’. Flo and Flicka were chilled about the whole thing, not bothered by anything, not even Tom dressed up as a snowflake!    It was, as it should be ‘nobody taking themselves too seriously’ as it seems to me too many people with horses or ponies tend to do. I do! I like this way of riding, it means you can go at your own pace, meet up and have a bit of a laugh.

I got back to the trailer just as the rain and wind got serious.  Looking forward to the spring spider ride in the sun, and if you want to know about ‘Rookery Nook’ ask me at the next spider ride! Colin
