Ignoring a Dash Warning Light That’s On?

The dreaded dash lights! They always come on at the worst possible time.

But ignoring them could REALLY turn it into a bad time.

A dash light can mean anything from a need for an oil change to your air

bags are not functioning properly. Don’t take chances! We’re here to help.

Let’s get that light checked out and make a plan.

Take Back The Garage Tackling the garage can be a daunting task. Here are tips to make it a little

less overwhelming.

• Call a dumpster service and begin by taking everything out. Probably

50% of garage clutter is garbage. Be tough on yourself by making 'keep,'

'donate' and 'dump' decisions on the spot.

• Once you are down to your "keep" pile, choose an organizing system that

works for the space, like shelving units from Costco or something custom.

• Think about usage. Place seasonal items and harmful chemicals and paint

supplies on high shelves. Keep kids' toys accessible.

• Set a date to complete unfinished projects (like that table you keep

meaning to refinish), or discontinue and clear out.

• Aside from storage and a place for your car, consider using your garage

space to express your passions, creating a fine art painting studio,

gardening station or home gym. You'll visit and utilize it more often,

creating a retreat you can enjoy.

The Funny Bone Following Instructions…

There was a bit of confusion at

the grocery store this morning.

When I was ready to pay for

my groceries, the cashier said,

“Strip down facing me.”

Making a mental note to

complain to my congressman

that Homeland Security was

running amok, I did just as she

instructed.

When the hysterical shrieking

and alarms finally subsided, I

found out that she was

referring to my credit card.

Yeah, I’ve been asked to shop

elsewhere in the future.

1 1/4 pounds skinless boneless chicken breasts

1 1/2 pounds bacon

2/3 cup dark brown sugar

2 T chili powder

1/2 t cumin

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Clean and trim about 1 1/4 pounds of skinless

boneless chicken breast. Cut into approx. 1 inch cubes. Cut the bacon in half,

roll around the chicken cubes and secure with a tooth pick. In a large mixing

bowl, combine dark brown sugar, chili powder and cumin. Mix well. Prep

baking sheet with aluminum foil, a rack and spray with PAM. Roll the pieces

in the brown sugar mixture. Be sure to pack some in the ends. Place on the

rack. Bake until golden brown (about 35 minutes).

Where Did I Leave My Keys? The male satin bower bird, found on the east coast of Australia, builds its

bower (ground nest) with twigs and then decorates the nest with blue, yellow

or shiny objects it finds to attract a mate. Many people who live nearby have

found long lost objects in the bowers such as car keys, toys, clothes pins etc.

Mr. Lucky and His Lottery Wins

Melvyn Wilson, nicknamed “Mr. Lucky” is a retired postal worker

with quite a winning streak. He began his lucky streak in 2004,

winning $500,000. He followed that in 2005 with a measly $25,000

scratch-off win. But don’t worry, he finished off his 2005 by winning

a cool million dollars on a scratch-off. The 72-year-old hailing from

Woodbridge had hit the lottery three times in ten months. His last win

came in May 2013, scratching his way to another $500,000. Wilson

only plays scratch-off cards.

Mr. Lucky doesn't have a technique -- he buys cards from different

locations, but told lottery officials he uses his winnings to "invest in

Melvyn". I like the sound of that!

Does Your Boy Scout Have His Stalking Badge? No, not anymore. And it’s not what you think. “Stalking” is a

discontinued Boy Scout badge that included expertise in the tracking

and discovery of forest animals. Here are 4 other discontinued badges:

4. Rabbit Raising. "Rabbits are affectionate, gentle pets," notes a

1983 Boy's Life article describing the Rabbit Raising merit badge.

"Affectionate" and "gentle" aren't words that grab teenage boys'

attention. So the BSA was probably wise to dump the badge a decade

later.

offered the badge required learning consumer laws

and understanding a store’s return policy.

3. Taxidermy. Probably not a widely held skill set

these days.

He's not the first to hit four jackpots, though.

2010, earning almost $21 million.

Check Engine Light Scan

So you’ve been ignoring the warning light on your dash. Maybe you even put a little piece of tape over it so you don’t have to see it.

NOW is the time to figure out what’s going on there. We’ll scan the code for FREE and help you determine a course of action!

Your Dashboard Lights Here’s a list of warning lights most commonly used by auto manufacturers. Not all warning lights are universal so refer to your owner's manual or give us a call if you're not sure about a light.

Check Engine or Malfunction Indicator Light: Indicates the engine computer has set a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). Usually requires diagnosis with a professional scan tool.

Battery/Charging Alert: Indicates voltage level is below normal level and the vehicle's charging system is not functioning properly. Check battery terminals, alternator belt, and battery condition.

Coolant Temp Warning: Indicates temperature has exceeded normal limits. Check coolant level, fan operation, radiator cap, coolant leaks.

Transmission Temperature: Transmission is operating at higher than optimum temperature as transmission fluid is hotter than normal. Check transmission fluid level and engine coolant level.

Oil Pressure Warning: If this light stays lit, it indicates loss of oil pressure. Immediately check oil level and pressure.

Oil Change Reminder: Indicates that oil life has expired. This is monitored by the ECM; the interval can be mileage or a combination of readings taken by the ECM. The reset procedure is listed in the owner's manual. Some vehicles require the use of special tools to reset the light.

Service Vehicle Soon: Typically indicates a lighting or other electrical problem that is controlled by the BCM (body control module). Check all lights (head lights, turn signals, brake lights, and hazard lights). This symbol may also be used to warn driver of a traction control problem, or a communication problem between modules.

TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System): Indicates the tire pressure monitoring system has found a tire with low air pressure or there may be a sensor malfunction. Check tire pressure. Some vehicles will allow manual reset of TPMS warning light and others will require professional diagnosis. Refer to owner's manual.

Brake System: Indicates one of three possible conditions: parking brake is on; problem with the braking system/brake fluid is low, or ABS problem. Check brake fluid and make sure the parking brake is fully released. If the problem is in the ABS system, it may need a professional diagnosis.

Reduced Power Warning: Indicates Engine Computer has limited engine power output. The ECM has many levels of reduced power depending on what component has failed in its control system. Usually requires diagnosis with a professional scan tool.

ABS Light: Indicates that the Anti-lock Brake computer has set a code and needs professional diagnosis.

Gas Cap: The check gas cap light indicates that the gas cap is not tightened properly. If not addressed, quite often the Check Engine Light will also illuminate.

Cruise Control: Indicates that cruise control is set during driving.

ESP Fault: Indicates that there is a problem with the vehicle's traction control/anti-skid or electronic stability system.

Security Alert: If the symbol lights momentarily it may mean that the ignition switch is locked and will need the proper transponder-equipped key to re-start. If the symbol is visible when the vehicle is on, then it typically indicates a malfunction in the security system.

Lamp Out: Indicates that there is an exterior light on the vehicle that is not functioning properly.

Traction Control or ESP: Illuminates when the vehicle's traction control/anti-skid or electronic stability system is in use. Usually an indicator that conditions are slippery.

Door Ajar: Indicates that a door (including hood and trunk) is not closed. Open and close all doors, including hood and trunk.

Overdrive Light: This symbol indicates that the vehicle's overdrive system has been manually turned off. Typically the overdrive system is controlled by an on/off switch.

Airbag Fault: If this light stays illuminated after starting, it indicates that the vehicle has found a fault in the airbag system and the computer has set a code. Professional repair of the supplemental restraint system is highly recommended.

Washer Fluid Reminder: Indicates washer fluid is low. Fill washer fluid reservoir. The cap has a symbol that looks like a windshield. Some vehicles have separate reservoirs for front and rear window washers.

Fog Lamp: Indicates that the vehicle's front fog lamps are illuminated.
