Objective

To score points by hitting the ball across the net into each others half of the court without the other player/team being able to return it.

Positions – Server and Receiver

Basic Rules

•Team - 1 (singles) to 2 (doubles) players

•Winner - player/team who wins the best 2 out of 3 sets or the best 3 out of 5 sets

•Time - N/A

•Start Game - with a serve right baseline diagonally cross court over the net into the service box

Basic Rules – Server

2 serve attempts to get into correct service box

Alternates sides of the court after every serve

Serves the entire game and then the opponent serves

Basic Rules – Receiver

•Stands behind the correct service box

•Must return a serve after one bounce

•May hit the ball in mid-air or after 1 bounce during a rally

• Ball hits net and goes over during a rally it is good

• Offense – place ball away from defense

• Defense – protect lines and rally

• Fault – foot, ball hits net on serve, serve misses box, miss ball

• Player cannot touch or crossover the net with body

• Boundaries – stand anywhere within the fence area surrounding the court (normally between sidelines and baselines)

• Ball hits line is good

• Scoring – Love, 15, 30, 40, deuce, ad in/ad out

• Unsportsmanlike Conduct – Automatic point for the other team

• Etiquette – Call score, serve when receiver is ready, walk around net, don’t touch net, compliment play
