Mentoring System

• Have an effective advisory system headed by concerned group tutors in every batch. (2 faculty for a batch of 60 students).

• Fortnightly meetings are arranged with students by the advisors.• Students meet individual faculty members to address their grievances, as and when required.• We also have an effective student counselling system (Counselling and Guidance Cell) in place for

all the students in the institution.• The Career Guidance and Placement cell also offers advice to the students for their career related

matters.• Class PTAs are conducted, where face-to-face meetings with the parents are held along with their

wards. (once per semester)• GEcT SAFE offers financial support for students throughout the course. (15 students per year

@Rs.10,000/- per year)• Alumni mentoring individual students of their choice. (Around 10 in number).

Page 54: Government Engineering College Thrissur Government Engineering college Thrissur 1.

Feedback analysis

• An online feedback system used to conduct student feedback of teachers.• The generated teaching evaluation index as well as the remarks are distributed to the

concerned faculty member through the head of the department. • All students participate in the feedback and it is conducted for every theory course.• Letter of Appreciation is issued by the HoD to the teacher rated best by the students

during a semester.• Explanation is sought from faculty with evaluation index below a specified level and

appropriate corrective measures will be suggested by the head of the department. • Teachers having effective index less than 70 are counseled by HoD and also suggeste

to undergor induction program for teachers being conducted by ISTE / NTTI.

OASIS is the pain and palliative care unit of Govt. Engineering College, Thrissur, and was established four years ago. The OASIS represents the student community in the field of palliative care. It aims to bring a contemporary thought into the lives of everyone related to this institution. One of its primary objectives is to spread awareness on palliative care and its importance in the midst of nation’s youth.

It works as a supporting group for the Alpha pain clinic. It participates in all activities of the Alpha pain clinic, especially the “world hospice and palliative care day” is the home care programme organized every week. The members of the OASIS frequently visit the Alpha pain clinic to facilitate and provide palliative care.

The members go for the home care programme, which provides free treatment and medicine to the needy irrespective of their financial status by visiting their homes every week with the Alpha painclinic thus comprehending palliative care and offering it.

Assistance is also provided in gathering funds for the Alpha pain clinic by installing donation boxes in the premises of the college. Help, from an engineering point of view is provided by constructing medicine equipments at lower costs.
