Governor’s veto would allow him to cut off families’ TAFDC when a parent or child has a severe disability. The Governor’s veto of parts of the TAFDC line item (4403-2000) eliminates language included in the House budget and the final budget barring DTA from counting SSI recipients’ benefits in calculating other family members’ TAFDC. Including this language in the House budget sent a strong message that the House would not tolerate the Governor’s plan to make drastic benefits cuts for 8,500 families where a parent or child is so severely disabled that they receive federal SSI benefits. Most families would be left with only $763 a month in cash income. Many families would not be able to pay rent and would become homeless. Call Speaker DeLeo at 617-722-2500 and ask him to take up and support OVERRIDE of the Governor’s TAFDC veto. Call your Representative and ask him or her to urge the Speaker to take up and support OVERRIDE of the Governor’s TAFDC veto. Call right away! House leadership is deciding NOW which vetoes to override.
