Welcome to our Adelaide University Medical Students

We would like to welcome our two new 5th year medical students

Daniel Zweck and Hubib Ahmad

Each year Summit Health and GPcare proudly host 5th year medical students from the Adelaide Rural Clinical School at the University of Adelaide

Students are placed with us for a year and live and work in the Mt Barker community The goal of the Rural Clinical School is to provide a high quality learning environment for students to promote rural health as a career and to form strong relationships between students community health services and the University

Welcome Dr Justin Alexander Summit Health Centrersquos New TenantDr Justin Alexander is an Australian-trained orthopaedic surgeon specialising in the treatment of the shoulder elbow wrist and hand

After completing his orthopaedic surgical training in Adelaide Justin spent a further 18 months working in highly specialised centres around Australia learning advanced techniques and acquiring vast experience in the treatment of upper limb conditions

Justinrsquos private practice is based at Sportsmedrsquos Stepney Hub where he consults and operates at their orthopaedic hospital He also works at Royal Adelaide Hospital where he is part of the dedicated Upper Limb Unit providing specialist support for complex upper limb degenerative conditions and traumatic injuries

Areas of particular interest include shoulder replacement surgery minimally invasive surgical techniques and the management of complex wrist conditions

Dr Alexander is now consulting at Summit Health Centre on alternate Thursday mornings For enquiries or to make an appointment contact Dr Alexanderrsquos rooms

Ovarian Cancer Awareness - Teal Casual DayFebruary is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month Every day 4 Australian women are diagnosed and 3 women will die from ovarian cancer It is the most underfunded and the deadliest female cancer in Australia

On February 14 Summit Health Centre hosted a morning tea (with staff dressed in teal) to raise funds and awareness supporting women living with ovarian cancer and their families

Our morning tea for ldquoPaint the Town Tealrdquo raised $150 It was a great morning and a fantastic effort by our staff

Introducing the Summit Health Digital ChampionsLindy Eatts and Kim Saunders have been selected to be the organisationrsquos lsquoDigital Championsrsquo after Summit Health was successful in winning a one-year (half) scholarship in 2019 to the lsquoDigital Champions Clubrsquo

lsquoThe Digital Champions Clubrsquo offers mentoring and support for people embedded inside small and medium sized organisations delivering the next generation of digital projects

Digital champions are supported to consistently and effectively implement small technology-driven improvements

Lindy and Kim recently attended a Bootcamp where they met with current Digital Champions and attended a masterclass on ldquoMomentumrdquo

Lindy and Kim are currently prioritising projects that will benefit Summit Health

SA HealthFREE Meningococcal B VaccinationAre your children in Year 10 or 11 this year

If so they are able to receive the Meningococcal B vaccination for free in their school immunisations this year

The Year 10 immunisation program is ongoing but the free vaccination is only available for Year 11rsquos in 2019

This program runs from February 1 until December 31 2019

Make sure they are immunised
