Sponsored by ODUODU Graduate Society for International Studies

Cancer has touched many of us in some way, so ODU decided to fight back by raising funds and walking in our local American Cancer Society Relay For Life event.

With the dedication of the student organization Colleges Against Cancer, Old Dominion Uni-versity hosts a Relay for Life every April. Each year the ODU community forms more than 80 teams with over 1000 participants to raise awareness and over 43,000 dollars for the Amer-ican Cancer Society. The Student Recreation Center is transformed into a night of food, fun and fundraising.

GSIS has signed up to support ODU’s mission to help eliminate cancer as a major health prob-lem. Saving lives from cancer starts one team, one participant, one dollar at a time. Please make a donation.

Conference

INTERNATIONAL POLITICAL ECONOMY SOCIETY DUKE UNIVERSITY & UNIVERISTY OF NORTH CAROLINA

NOVEMBER 11-12, 2016

The IPES is now accepting paper proposals for its annual meeting. The IPES provides an annual forum for scholars of international political economy to present their best new work in progress to an informed and crit-ical scholarly audience. The annual conference is centered on a small number of carefully selected papers. We are particularly interested in recruiting participants and papers from outside the field of political science and from outside North America.

Guidelines: Papers appropriate for the conference include some international component (i.e., either the independent or dependent variable must be “international” in some meaningful sense), and either focus on the politics of economic phenomena (e.g., globalization) or an economic policy (e.g., monetary policy). The Society welcomes scholars using diverse approaches and methods, including qualitative and historical approaches.

The abstract for each proposed paper should be sufficiently detailed to allow the steering committee to assess its suitability for the conference, but should not exceed 250 words.

Proposals can be submitted at: https://ncgg.princeton.edu/IPES/drupal/Deadline: April 15, 2016

Internship

NATO- ACT Internship Programme 2017Norfolk, VA

The HQ SACT Internship Programme 2017 aims to provide a small number of current or recent students with the opportunity to ‘intern’ with HQ SACT in Norfolk, Virginia or at the Joint Analysis Lessons Learned Cen-tre (JALLC) in Monsanto, Lisbon, Portugal. Interns will benefit by gaining understanding of an International Organization, while substantiating their Curriculum Vitae. All internship placements will be for a six month period, with start dates to be determined individually as interns cannot start their internship without their NATO Secret security clearance, and the timing for the completion of clearances varies by nation.

The Carter CenterAtlanta, GA

For more than 25 years, the Carter Center Internship Program has provided more than 2,600 interns with a rewarding complement to classroom experience. Carter Center interns come from around the world and make vital contributions to the Center’s work. In turn, the Center provides a substantive learning experience that serves as a basis for interns to explore their career options and to attain professional skills. The goal of the Internship Program is to develop an informed and skilled work force committed to advancing peace and health worldwide.

All internships are based in Atlanta. However, opportunities arise for interns to travel with staff on Center-relat-ed trips (e.g. election-monitoring missions, domestic and international conferences, training workshops).

Program Highlights *Substantive work experience: Less than 30 percent of an intern’s responsibilities include administrative duties.*Work directly in your field of study, gaining valuable knowledge that can enhance your professional develop-ment.*Make professional connections and form networks within an international non-governmental organization.*Scheduled career development opportunities with senior Carter Center staff.
