Next Meeting March 7, King’s Restaurant, Harmarville

On Old Route 28, just north of 910 Board Meeting 7:00 pm, General Meeting 7:30 pm

Greetings Pony Lovers—

Despite the winter weather - the Club has been

busy. I hope you’ve had a chance to check out

our new website that the Board adopted at the

Feb. meeting (www.gpmc.org.) The latest ad-

dition is a member chat area that you can reach

from the Members Only page. Feel free to post

questions or reply if you have an answer.

On Feb 12th fourteen intrepid members got to-

gether to celebrate Valentine’s Day. We met at

Phipps Conservatory to tour their latest exhibit,

and then proceeded to the Hofbrauhaus Restau-

rant on the South Side for a romantic dinner of

knockwurst and beer. Despite the snow and

single-digit wind chills, everyone had a great

time.

We now have dates set for some of this coming

summer’s activities. The Lake Erie Mustang

Owners Club originally had planned Can-Am

for the same weekend as our All Ford-Powered

Show on June 10th. After I informed them of

the conflict, they were very gracious, and

agreed to change the date for Can-Am to July

13-15. With that date set, we then coordinated

with Starlite to set June 22 as Mustang Night

and July 27 for our volunteer service night.

See the calendar page in the newsletter and our

website for more details on these and other up-

coming events.

Plans are coming together for a Spring

“Winery Run”, hopefully sometime in early

May. As soon as the winter weather breaks

we’ll start making dry runs on some alternate

routes. Stay tuned.

We had a near record turnout at the February

meeting; the extremely mild weather no doubt

helped. We plan to meet next on March 7th at

King’s in Harmarville. Hopefully winter

snows will be on their way out by then.

Keep those motors runnin’,

Ken

Minutes of February 1, 2012 Combined Board and General Meeting

The combined meeting was called to order by Ken B., President, at 7:30 PM, at King’s Restaurant, Harmarville. The sign-in sheet was passed around, and the 50/50 was sold by Dan N.

Board Meeting The Board Meeting was called to discuss the switch to a new website and webmaster. It was moved by Dwight H. and 2nd by Denise B. to appoint Jennie B. as our new webmaster. Ken gave background information on WordPress, the new website. He mentioned that the web-master is a non-tech role and more than one person can update the site. Bob Q. inquired about the Members Only section and how to access it. Bob K. discussed the access to the Newsletter section. He mentioned that the Newsletter is a perk for membership and, because of finan-cial information in the newsletter, it should not be available to non-members. Jennie mentioned that the Members Only section is a secured site and is available only by a password. The motion to appoint Jennie B. was approved. Ken asked for a motion to switch from Lunarpages to WordPress and adopt the new Website. It was moved by Mary H. and 2nd by Mark M. to switch websites. Motion carried. Ken asked for a motion to adjourn the Board Meeting. It was moved by Danielle L. and 2nd by Ed S. to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.

General Meeting

New Members and Guests: New Members: Terry P. and Jack S. Guest: Linda H. Minutes: The Minutes of the Jan. 4, 2012 meeting were reviewed. It was moved by Dennis L. and 2nd by Jack F. to approve the minutes. Motion carried. Correspondence: Ken mentioned we received a thank you card from the Cavataio family for the contribution and Mass card in Tom’s name. We also received a thank you note from Andrew T. on the passing of his grandmother, who was instrumental in sparking his interest in old cars, especially Mustangs. Ken also received a note from Russell & Sally G., who are wintering in Florida. They will be back in the Spring and are looking forward to being more active in the club. Treasurer's Report – Jan. 2012: Jason U. reviewed the income and expenses. Income consisted of Dues, the 50/50 Raffle, and Advertise-ments. Expenses were to Jennie B. for January Newsletter postage/printing and to Network Solutions for one-year renewal our domain name. It was moved by Jennie B. and 2nd by Jeff B. to accept the Treasurer’s Report. Motion carried. Membership: Mary reported that the membership renewal is over. We have 64 members and 6 lifetime members. Twelve didn’t renew. We have two new members: Mike H. and Mike K. Membership cards are available and the updated directory was e-mailed last week. Newsletter: For Andrew, Ken reported that Andrew is excited about doing the newsletter and is working on a whole new theme. For the March Newsletter send stories, pictures, articles, and any event information to Andrew by Feb. 15 at [email protected]. Merchandise: John H. reported there is a new item, an iron-on patch that will be available at the next meeting. The cost is $4.00. Webmaster/Facebook: Regarding the new website, Jennie stated it would be like any website. She is working on the privacy issues—no last names and no children’s names will be mentioned. Regarding the setup, Ken and she will have administrative authority. Certa in members were appointed to have access to make changes and updates in order to get last minute changes to members quickly — Ed for MCA, Andrew for the Newsletter, and Dwight for Events. To access the Members Only section, a password will be required and will be issued by Jennie at each meeting. Discussion followed concerning whether or not to include the Newsletter. Current Newsletters are not on the site. The 2011 issues are on it. A motion was made by Mark M. and 2nd by Jeff B. to make the Newsletter available in the Archives but two months behind the current month. Motion carried. Additional discussion followed such as to what other clubs do or don’t do. Jason discussed what other information should be left out, such as finances, sponsors, and charitable organizations. Jennie stated that email addresses would be provided for only those officers people would likely want to contact; the membership directory is not on the website; the by-laws are on the protected page; and the policies and procedures will be added to the protected page. Car photos and other submissions for the website should be sent to: [email protected]. TRCCC: Ron L. attended their January meeting. For Ron, Ken reported the TRCCC has a new website and the club discussed State legis-lation already passed in the House and referred to the Senate Transportation Committee in Harrisburg, regarding Seasonal Registration for antique, classic and collectible vehicles.

MCA: Ed reported MCA has changed the procedure for obtaining insurance, club support, and President’s Award. In order to maintain our Regional Club status, we must submit a member roster by March 1st. All officers must be MCA members plus at least five other members. Based on latest membership directory we have 60 GPMC members; 28 (47%) belong to MCA. Once MCA has reviewed and verified our information that was just submitted, we can then apply for our 6th President’s Award and our All Ford show insurance. If you don’t belong to MCA, please consider joining now – see Ed. MCA has over 11,000 members. Less than 10% of all MCA clubs have ever received a President’s Award. MCA National Shows with estimated mileage and time from Pittsburgh are now on the new website. The MCA 2013 GRAND NATIONAL Show is Aug. 3 to Sept. 1, 2013 at the Richard Petty Driving Experience Disney Speedway in Orlando, FL. The January Mustang Times said host hotel regis-tration was open. This is NOT correct. Host hotel reservations at the Coronado will be open on April 16, 2012. Several members discussed ways of transportation to FL. Eagle One Award: This is an award for clubs performing outstanding community service and compassionate achievements. The award notification date is February 10th. Event Wrap-up: Dwight thanked everyone for providing desserts and making the Golf Outing a success. Fifty-one people attended. Bob K. won the trophy. Dwight mentioned that the Pgh. Vintage Grand Prix is looking for volunteers to man their booth (handing out materials) for as many hours as they want to at the New Car Show at the Convention Center, February 17-20. Participation entitles the person to free parking at the convention center. Upcoming Events: Listed in the Newsletter and on the website. Dwight asked if there was an interest in a Valentine’s Day outing at the Phipps Con-servatory, on Feb. 12, from 3:00-5:00 PM. He needs 15 people to get a group rate. Cost is $12/person and $6/person if you wear a flowered shirt. He is considering the Hofbrau House (South Side) for dinner – order off the menu. He is looking into a lunch and visiting the Heinz History Center some-time in March and group rates are available. Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival/Winery Tour is Sept. 7-9, 2012. Dwight is heading up getting the reser-vations. Ten members will be attending and possibly another two more. Ed reported on the 14th All Ford-Powered Show to be held on Sun., June 10, 2012, at Shults Ford in Harmarville. For this year, it will also be named, ―The Tom Cavataio Memorial Show.‖ Charity will be the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI) – wishes of Tom’s family. There is a Class Change. Class A is now 1964½ to 1973 stock. (Few 69-73 registered last year). Judging will be changed to ―Judges’ Choice‖ awards for everyone except GPMC vehicles. ―Judges’ Choice‖ is patterned after 2012 MCA changes. Plan to have six teams of two members each. We’ll have judges meeting at 11 AM on show day to go over judging procedure. It’s estimated each team should be completed in about an hour. GPMC Vehicle voting by members only. The tentative plan is for each GPMC entrant to get 3 tickets and voting containers will be placed in front of each vehicle. Ken reported the Poker Run was cancelled. He suggested another trip to Foxburg Winery that was agreeable with those present. The LEMOC Can-Am is tentatively set in Erie for June 8-10, 2012, which is the date of our car show. Regarding Starlite, the tentative dates are: Mustang Night, June 29 and Starlite Service Night, July 27. Old Business: Andy mentioned an upcoming import car show, particularly since Tom C. belonged to the Opel Club. New Business: Mark M. mentioned that the MG will be the Mark of the Year Car at the Pgh. Vintage Grand Prix. PVGP dates are July 8-22, 2012 and the car show dates are July 21 and 22. Our Club meeting/picnic is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 5, at the Monroeville Park, Monroeville. Dwight is looking into the availability of the shelter. Other: Dan N. won the 50/50. Next meeting to be held on Wed., March 7, 2012 at King’s, Harmarville, at 7:00 PM. Adjournment: It was moved by Mark M. and 2nd by Jeff B. to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried. Gerri C., Secretary

Tri-Rivers Car Club Council (TRCCC) January Meeting Report The January 2012 meeting was called to order at 7:30 by President Chris Doyle.

16 members and club liaisons attended including a rep from GPMC, Pittsburgh C.A.R.S., Three Rivers Cor-

vette Club, & Cruisin‟ Classics.

The major item of the meeting was a review of the new website of TRCCC – http://clubs.hemmings.com/

trccc

An announcement was made of an upcoming April 1st Pittsburgh CARS car cruise at South Park.

A copy of „Driving Force‟ magazine was passed out. The mission of this magazine is to deliver pertinent state

legislative information regarding matters that could affect the car hobby. For Pennsylvania, I found that a bill

to allow antique, classic and collectible vehicles to register under a „seasonal‟ registration class was passed by

the House of Representatives and is now pending in the Senate Transportation Committee. The measure

would allow collector car owners to specify which months of the year they would like to register the vehi-

cle. The fee would be the same as the regular state annual registration but insurance for the vehicle would

only be required for the months specified.

I will try to learn more about this bill and advise the club in an upcoming report.

Respectfully submitted,

Ron Libengood
