GPON-FTTx
Technology Training
DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to give participants a detailed insight on the Fun-damentals of FTTx GPON Technology. Throughout the course, participants will start by learning the basics of each FTTx technology starting from an introduction to architectural principles of Access Networks including the different Topologies, site types, Fiber Termination Points and any factor in-fluencing infrastructure deployment. During the second part of the course participants will acquire more knowledge on the passive optical networks (PONs), starting from the standards, learn how all the GPON elements com-municate, including traffi c management and QoS, together with the associa-ted technical terms used on the fi eld work. This course is very extensive on “practice”. A GPON FTTH platform will be at the disposal of the Participants, including an OLT emulator and a GPON protocol analyser. Participants will be able to practice the impact of power budget in the PON, ONUs setup and confi guration, identify deviations for troubleshooting and understand how bandwidth is allocated and consumed. Moreover; participants will learn how to provision services (IPTV, VoIP, HSI) and their assurance (Quality of Experience).
Course objective• Acquire knowledge of FTTx Access networks, including infrastructure
deployment.• Learn GPON Associated Technical Terms.• Understand GPON Elements role within the PON and how the
communicate.• Practice: Setting up different designs of Implementing GPON &
Accessing Multi-Service Traffi c.
Key benefi tsExplore PON technologies supplying triple play services for broadband con-sumers. This course provides very comprehensive theoretical background as well as extensive practices for real scenarios emulation and analysis.

HANDS ON GPON TECHNOLOGY
“Seeing is Believing” and this is more evident in those scenarios where usua-lly you are limited to what both ends in a communication link decide to let you know. GPON protocol is quite complex and it’s really understood when you see the insight.By means of an GPON analyser, participants will see the “real” message ex-change flow between the OLT and the ONTs. Furthermore, by using an OLT emulator, they will be able to decide how the PON has to behave and the impact of non suitable confi gurations.Practice 1: Physical Layer:
• The importance of fi bre inspection and cleaning• Impact of Optical Power in a GPON network
Practice 2: Analysing.• Capturing and analysing GPON Fundamentals• GTC layer flow analysis• Understanding an Entity/Relationship Diagram• Bandwidth Allocation and consumption
Practice 3: OLT emulation• User traffi c VLAN tagging• Live provision, capture and test of triple-play services
