SFS Plant Order Rick-Up Before April Meeting April 17 - 5:30 to 7:00

If you ordered plants from our SFS Plant Sale please be sure to come pick them up before the April meeting. We will have them available starting at 5:30 and we will be set up just inside the lower level of the parking deck. This should make it easy even if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

Did Your Plants Freeze?

Last weekend presented us with unwelcome challenges but we will learn from them whether we want to or not. With unseasonably cold weather our gardens may well have suffered some degree of damage. If you have dam-age please email Sara at [email protected] and tell her what was damaged, how badly it was damaged and what your zip code is. If your friends had damage but you did not, please let us know how you protected your plants. Please be as specific as possible and we will in-clude this information in an upcoming Perennial Notes.

New Monthly Event Listing

April and May are packed full of gardening events and it is hard to keep up with what is going on. To help you know about these events the last pages of this newsletter contain information about garden related events happen-ing in the next two months. We hope you will find this information interesting and useful but please be aware that we only list the items with the information we are provided. We do not endorse any particular event. If you want your event included, or if you know of an event that should be included, please email the information to [email protected] no later than the end of the previ-ous month. We will be happy to include announcements about tours, classes, programs, plant sales and the like.

Help Needed to Visit Nurseries (How hard can this be?!)

OK, who among us doesn’t like to go visit nurseries? I bet we all enjoy it so please help GPPA out by offering to help pick up plants for our Plant Raffle each month. All you have to do is visit one nursery and bring the plant(s) to the meeting. You don’t even need to be available each month. The nurseries have already agreed to donate so you’re not expect to call around begging for donations; we just need help picking them up. We could also use help from someone with computer skills who could make the info sheets we have at each meeting. If you will help, please contact Elaine Stephens to dis-cuss the matter. Her number is 404-303-8827 and her email is [email protected]

Volunteers Needed for the Tour

Carole Teja is looking to sign up more docents for our tour June 2 & 3. Please call her (404-643-2354) or email her at [email protected].

“The Confident Cutting Garden: Fearless Flowers and Divine Design” presented by Linda Beutler Atlanta Botanical Garden Alston Lecture

Wednesday, May 23 - 7:30 p.m.

Linda Beutler is a fearless gardener who grows a great number of plants on a simple, flat 50 x 100 foot city lot in the Sellwood neighborhood of Portland, Oregon. Her house, Tanglevine Cottage, celebrates its 100th birthday this year. She has been a professional florist for 20 years, and her first love in her own garden was growing flow-

ers, fruit, and foliage for cutting. That focus started changing when Linda purchased her first clematis as a misnamed plant. Her personal collection now numbers over 275 separate taxa. In addition to clematis she col-lects hardy geraniums, old garden roses, alliums, hardy fuchsias, and she's never met a corydalis or thalictrum

she didn't like.

Linda is the author of two books: Gardening with Clema-tis and Garden to Vase. She lectures nationally and is a

garden writer for many publications, including Fine Gar-dening, Pacific Horticulture, and Birdwatcher's Digest. A

book-signing will follow the talk.
