THADDEUS “TED” LUSZEY CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

Thaddeus Luszey or as most folks know him, Ted, is a Hudson resident and long serving member of our community being honored by the Gr. Hudson Chamber of Commerce as Citizen of the year for his leadership, selflessness, volunteerism and dedication to community. Ted gives freely of his time and talents to the town, community, troops, veterans, and others who call. During the last year, he has gone above and beyond by also donating his time to a major church renovation project as well as working with a local construction company to help Veteran Josh Keller and his family. Ted stepped up to be the Project Manager for the Main Street Methodist Church project given his talents he has lead the renovation group and updates the church communi-ty on progress, changes, etc. As a volunteer, Ted manages the day to day issues from snow re-moval to power issues to wires in ceilings, etc. and spends many hours a week on site. When Ted received a call for help regarding the building addition for Joshua Keller, Specialist US Army, who was wounded in a shooting accident on February 2017, the answer was of course Yes! Working with the Hudson VFW raising over $4000 dollars and bringing on board the State Veterans’ Advisory Council, other groups came forward along with local stores for ADA materials as a result of his involvement. There are several Veteran Volunteer Programs Ted has given his time. For example, he has helped move furniture for the Manchester VASH program. Ted can always be counted on even last minute, when “we need a truck” to help move a Veteran, or get the donations into storage and he’s always there. Ted can be seen cooking hotdogs and hamburgers at the Veterans’ Home in Tilton for their Annual cookout or Car Shows. During the summer months, he is grilling at local summer concerts to help raise funds for various veterans’ projects. Ted and his wife run a non-profit which ships packages to deployed troops. In the Hudson area, several groups and organizations are involved and help. Ted is dedicated to coordinating the col-lection and delivery of the items. He also helps collect from local schools letters to the troops, and at Halloween “Treats for Troops” which allows many children of all ages involve-ment with a community based service project. Ted and his truck do many pickups all over the community. During the holiday season, many individuals graciously take names from trees to help those in need. Ted and his truck are the transportation portion and brute force of a team of about eight who make Holiday Stockings for all the children who are on the tree in the Manchester VASH Program. These children are throughout our community - Hudson, Nashua, Manchester, Litch-field, etc. Approximately 100 to 120 stockings are made each year. Ted transports all the supplies to the build site, moves the stockings to storage until case managers can take them. He has even made stockings when help is needed - can we say a true Santa’s helper. Ted was recently the Chairman of the Board of Selectmen for the second year. In total he has served the town of Hudson 25 years including Budget Committee. On several occasions, a resident has asked his wife to “Thank Ted for the help” or “Thank Ted for fixing ...”. He listens when people call and researches the issues or concern. Ted Luszey over the last year has put in more hours helping the community than most people who work a 40-50 hour week. He jokes he had more free time when he worked full-time. It is his com-passion for his fellow man and willingness to do what he can with no strings attached that describes him best. During the last year Ted Luszey has demonstrated what a man with determination and his truck can accomplish. Ted continues to make our community a better place, continually giving his time, expertise and enthusiasm and it is with great pleasure the Gr. Hudson Chamber of Commerce recognizes Ted as this year’s Citizen of the Year!

Congratulations Ted!

LARGE BUSINESS OF THE YEAR SL CHASSE STEEL FABRICATION & ERECTORS

It is the Greater Hudson Chamber of Commerce’s honor to present the award for Large Business of the Year to SL Chasse Steel Fabrication and Erectors for their outstanding business success and meaningful contributions to the community.

SL Chasse Steel Fabrication and Erectors started out in 1989 by founder Stephen Chasse as a young entrepreneur forming SL Chasse Welding & Fabricating at the age of 23, working with miscel-laneous metals, welding and fabricating, basically doing anything as a young start-up business. In 2012, to better reflect its full-service structural steel fabrication and erection capabilities, the compa-ny officially began doing business as SL Chasse Steel. Today, SL Chasse Steel under the direction of company President Stephen Chasse, Vice President Kenneth Worrell and Vice President Lori Chasse, have established itself as a leader in commercial, industrial, hospitality, education and healthcare markets in New England with over 120 employees.

The company has always been dedicated to searching and finding the best qualified employees, with an assembled team that offers years of knowledge and success in bringing challenging steel buildings and miscellaneous metal projects to timely and quality driven completion. Their projects appear all over New England and include hospitals, office buildings, hospitals, shopping centers, manufacturing plants, additions and remodeling.

Over the past few year’s SL Chasse has grown and made a significant investment in their structural fabrication equipment, along with a 35,000 square foot expansion to their Hudson facility that is continuing to grow. They pride themselves in their extensive portfolio to include all aspects of a project from engineering, fabricating, erecting and all to the unique specification of their clients’ time-table and expectations. SL Chasse delivers and is highly respected for exceptional business prac-tices and community involvement. The Business Excellence Awards recognizes and celebrates firms and individual who have distinguished themselves by fostering growth, innovation, community service and excellence in their sectors.

As a socially responsible organization, SL Chasse has committed to support local organizations that make a difference in our community. In 2017 they have generously donated a total of over $10,000 to the following: Hudson Firefighters, Hudson Police Employee Association, Hudson Youth Baseball, Friends of Hudson Spirit, NH Police Association, Professional Firefighters Association, Hudson-Litchfield Rotary, Hudson Girls Softball League, and the Hudson Historical Society.

In an effort to encourage our youth to becoming potential future employees in a valuable trade, SL Chasse Steel has opened their doors offering tours to Alvirne welding students to see the steel and fabrication business and its operations first-hand.

SL Chasse’s provided skills and materials as major contributions in building the new staircase for Alvirne’s Stadium and aiding the Friends of Benson with the steel railings in the Benson Park Ele-phant Barn. SL Chasse Steel for the past few years has also stepped up as the premier sponsor to the much anticipated annual firework display at Hudson Old Home Days.

SL Chasse Steel truly represents the heart and soul of what our business community has to offer in making our region such a wonderful place to work and raise a family. We appreciate all that they do!

Congratulations SL Chasse Steel Fabrication & Erectors!

It is the Greater Hudson Chamber of Commerce’s honor to bestow the award for Outstanding Com-munity Partner to the St. John XXIII Food Pantry. They are being recognized for providing a valua-ble service for those in need on a daily basis to our community. The St John XXIII Food Pantry is a non-denominational non-profit volunteer organization located in the building to the right of Saint John the Evangelist Church, on Library Street in Hudson. The pan-try has served town residents since 1983 with a goal to feed the people of Hudson who are at risk. Community volunteers serve countless hours helping ensure that hundreds of Hudson families get needed food and gifts around Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter time. This is no easy task. Hun-dreds of hours are needed to keep the shelves full by seeking out donations, as well as making weekly trips to the New Hampshire Food Bank, area grocery stores and shopping malls. This past year alone the Pantry has distributed 135,745 meals to 856 individuals; provided 203 fami-lies for Christmas gifts and food. On a daily basis they provide food, assistance, gifts, and neces-sary cosmetic and cleaning products to over 250 families, of which 401 are children between infancy and 17 years of age and 375 adults between 18 to 59 years of age and 79 of our senior citizens. The Pantry also offers a “Feed Our Kids Program” that serves over 100 children each week. In this program, bags containing 8 meals, which can be prepared by children, are brought to the schools in Hudson for distribution to go home with the children each Friday afternoon for the weekend. The privacy of the children is highly valued so no names are taken and the children simply pick up a re-usable bag on their way home each week. Teachers comment that the children are more alert on Monday’s as a result of having nourishing food for the weekend. Certain times of the year such as holiday’s or at the beginning of school in August, the pantry provides back packs for back to school, Easter baskets for the children, Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets and gifts. Families are also provided hats, gloves and mittens in November in preparation for the winter months. The pantry has often come to the aid of the Town Welfare office as well as the Fire and Police Departments in cases of emergency. The people behind the scenes make the biggest difference at the pantry. From the beginning, Paul-ine Boisvert has served as a volunteer at the pantry and has since 2004 filled the role of director. However it takes a crew of dedicated volunteers working together to continue to serve the rising need in our community. These volunteers are drivers who use their personal vehicles making the weekly trips to Manchester to the food bank and local stores to pick up the food and other donated items, shoppers to purchase what they may need, and others to help pack and prepare for the week-ly food distributions, all of them giving freely of their time. Although, many local groups and businesses also lend a hand. Businesses often hold food drives, adopt families or encourage their employees to volunteer their time. The Alvirne High Student Coun-cil, Hudson Boy Scout Troop 252 and the youth groups from the church all participate with making sure food is sorted, packaged, and that the children get needed hats, mittens and warm coats. Members of the town’s police and fire provide the staffing for the holiday distribution days. The pantry is always in need for food donations, hygiene products, new toys and clothing as well as other basic necessities. If you would like to help you can call 882-2462 at extension 6 or donations can be sent to Saint John’s XXIII Parish Food Pantry at PO Box 293, Hudson NH 03051. The St. John XXIII volunteers are selflessly involved, provide much need-ed programs and are committed to serving many in need in our community. Their partnership in our community strengthens Hudson making it a great place to work and do business which is the reason they are being honored our Outstanding Community Partners.

Congratulations—St. John XXIII Food Pantry!

The Greater Hudson Chamber of Commerce considers it an honor to award Hannah Truesdell with the Junior Citizen of the Year award. Hannah stands out in our younger generation as someone who is caring and concerned for the well-being of those around her. Hannah is a senior at Alvirne High School whom has proven herself as a leader, peer, friend and role model.

As a quiet leader in our community, Hannah chooses to lead by example. Since the ear-ly age of 5 years old, Hannah and her family have been involved in Special Olympics and when she was old enough became an official unified partner and mentor. Her positive and calm demeanor has a way of engaging individuals, earning trust and respect which are excellent leadership skills.

Hannah also plays an active role in Alvirne’s WATS Program (We Are All The Same) where you will find her doing activities with individuals who experience a disability or par-ticipating in various forms of fundraising, such as the Penguin Plunge to help raise mon-ey and awareness for Special Olympics. Her commitment to those facing challenges is a clear indicator of her compassion and respect for others.

Hannah is one of the vice presidents for Alvirne’s DECA. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools. She participates in holding community events along with helping to raise funds to allow for all members to afford and attend the leadership conferences which teaches and builds helpful leadership skills for the future.

In her classroom, Hannah puts forth honors level work and exemplifies leadership quali-ties by playing a key role in classroom discussions and debates, offering insightful com-mentary and textual references. As a successful student, she has learned how to balance a demanding college pre-paratory workload, while finding the time to work as a coun-selor and volunteer for various community service pro-grams, including Key Club, Lacrosse, and the Yearbook Club. For several summers Hannah has worked with the Hudson Recreation Department as a counselor and men-tor to the young kids participating in the summer program. Currently, Hannah balances her educational demands and volunteer efforts while working as a Dietary Aide at Fair-view Nursing Home.

Hannah is the daughter of Michael and Cheryl Truesdell of Hudson. Her future is bright with unlimited possibilities where her compassionate and giving presence will guide her success. She will be at-tending University of NH to major in Computer Science and Healthcare Administration.

Congratulations Hannah!

The Greater Hudson Chamber of Commerce considers it an honor to present Emma Beals with the Junior Citizen of the Year award. Her achievements thus far are worth notice and her potential for the future is destined for her to continue to serve her com-munity. Emma is a senior at Alvirne High School and is a positive role model that demonstrates a high level of initiative in our community.

Emma is an active member of the National Honor Society and currently serves as Presi-dent, choosing and excelling in Honors level courses. While working hard academically and volunteering for various community projects, Emma babysits and has worked as a lifeguard.

She is a member of the marching and concert bands for the past three years. Emma is very active with her school activities such as captain of the soccer team, swim, tennis, and a leader in unified basketball/cheerleading and unified track. As part of the Unified Programs, students are paired with students with physical or mental challenges. For the program Emma worked on the “Buddy Ball”, a prom for special education students and their partners where she demonstrated kindness and patience for all those involved.

Emma’s greatest strength is in her compassion to others. She helped to start and con-tinues to organize the Feed Our Kids Program in the school district with the food pantry. This program provides food bags for students for the weekend. Emma recognized the need and through her work with the food pantry commits her time weekly to collecting donations, filling bags and delivering them to all the schools every Friday for the benefit of over 100 students.

Her community service activities also include dedicating time to Catie’s Closet for stu-dents in need of clothes and toiletries, the Student Athletic Leadership Council, volunteering for Special Olympics, partic-ipating in the Penguin Plunge, and aiding in providing Thanksgiving meals to the less fortunate. Emma’s generosity does not stop there, this year she has become a trainer for a service dog. She brought a dog , Mimi, into her home to train as a companion for a visually impaired person. She brings Mimi everywhere with her as part of training and attends weekly classes as part of the training process. Emma also donates her time to her community through leaf raking, coor-dinating writing letters during the holidays for soldiers, being a mentor through youth programs and participating in numerous races and fundraisers for the betterment of our community.

Emma is destined to find ways to help others with intentions to go into the nursing field where her kindness and generous nature will continue to be of service to others. Emma is the daughter of Steve and Regina Beals of Hudson.

Congratulations Emma!
