NOTES AND NEWS

We welcome you and pray that you will be strengthened in your faithin our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in our worship today. Pleasesign the Welcome Book in the pew.

The Lutheran Hour: “Unscaled Heights of Empathy” A king’sdream, a mysterious statue with feet of clay, an unearthly rock thatgrows to fill all the earth, and God’s empathy for a weeping world, embodied in Christ-it’s all part of Dr. Michael Zeigler’s message, thisweek (Daniel 2). Hear the message Sunday on WJAG at 7:30 a.m.and 12:30 p.m.

Life Thoughts in the Church Year: Jesus Christ has alreadyswallowed up death forever. It belongs to Him and Him alone. Hereserves the right to provide life to us on His terms and decide in Histime when we die. His death and resurrection have freed us fromneeding to seek it for ourselves or for anybody else. His peace andpresence, promises and power pass us not only into death’s shadowbut through it–without ever setting up residence.

Stewardship Corner: As God’s stewards, we are to devote our livesand gifts to fulfill His purpose. However, our human nature seeks thepossession of things, wants to be important, and desires to be incontrol. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we understand that God isin control and that He owns everything. “The earth is the Lord’s andthe fullness thereof…” (Psalm 24:1). With transformed hearts, wecan be God’s stewards who express our faith in the way we live ourlives. Through faith, God provides motivation and power to live theChristian life in a growing awareness of God’s redeeming grace. Godcalls and chooses us to be His stewards, and He acts in and throughus. We are God’s hands, feet, and mouth to the world.

It has pleased Almighty God, in His wise providence, to summon outof this life the soul of Bill Reikofski. Funeral services will be heldMonday, October 12 at 10:30 a.m. May the Lord comfort the survi-vors with the hope of reunion with their loved one in heaven.

Join us this Sunday, October 11, for our Tuition Assistance Dinnerimmediately following the church service. The menu will be Smokedbrisket sandwiches, Coleslaw, Baked Beans, and a variety of desserts. All proceeds go towards the line item budget for Christ Lutheran andLutheran High Northeast.

ENDURING FAITH SUNDAY SCHOOL CONNECTIONSThis week we learned how God provided “A Merciful Substitute.” God had blessed Abraham with the son he had waited for his entirelife; yet now God asks the seemingly impossible–sacrifice your sonto Me. By faith, Abraham takes Isaac to the mountain, trusting God,who was able to raise his son from the dead. Abraham completes thetest, and God provides the sacrifice.

Building Faithful Families: Next Sunday, October 18, we will betalking about Parenting with Love and Logic. This is helpful forparents and grandparents.
