    DATING MY LOVE

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the maiden edition of GRACE WORKS, a publication dedicated to showcase variety of issues relating to the Christian life. Our aim is to hand over to you an informative magazine with relevant articles that will equip you in becoming who GOD created you to be through HIS divine GRACE.

As followers of Christ, the need to be equipped is inevitable. This maiden edition promises to be soul lifting as it accommodates diverse articles from anointed men and women of God targeted at the family, youths, parents, and the church as a whole. A section is dedicated to health related issues, considering that healthy living is integral to our lifestyle as Christians.

I am convinced that this magazine will tremendously bless you, your ministry and the church at large. It is my expecta-tion that God will pour out HIS divine GRACE for a greater dimension in our homes, career, ministry and church as you read this publication.

QUESTION: So a woman marries a believer and then a few years after they marry, the brother stops believing ... he is still a good man at the core, but just doesnt have the faith anymore ... would she be justified if she stopped loving him?

    FULLNESS OF HIS GRACE

Grace is the free, sovereign and unmerited favour of God towards the unworthy humanity. According to the Websters Dictionary,

Grace is the free unmerited love and favour of God, the spring and source of all the benefits men receive from him. The Grace of God can take you from backward to the very front; from your prison to the palace and from a nonentity to a celebrity.

At City of Grace, we have severally explored the subject of the Grace of God to humanity. Grace and law collided in the case of the woman caught in adultery. The story of David further reveals what grace can do; the 8th son of Jesse who by natural law of inheritance did not qualify for anything in his fathers house. He had been sentenced to a life of hard work in his youthful years while the brothers enjoyed the comfort of the city. He was not even qualified to be enlisted in Sauls army. The best he could do was to keep the sheep. But Grace went in search of Him, found him and turned him into a king. I Samuel 16:9-12.

Another case in point is Mephibosheth, the grandson of King Saul who had been permanently sentenced to Lode bar, a pasture-less place, a place of obscurity. His inheritance was taken over by a servant. He dared not voice a word. As a matter of fact, he lost his identity. He compared himself to a dog. But one-day Grace found him out and restored him. 2 Samuel 9:1-10.

All the more, our Saviour Jesus Christ was presented as full of Grace and Truth in John 1: 14 and of His fullness, we have received grace for grace John 1:16. In Christ is the fullness of Grace. He reveals the grace that was in God, The God of all grace.

This fullness of grace is so much in supply that it cannot be compared with the much water in the ocean or the much light in the sun. This is the grace we have been invited to draw endlessly from. From this fullness, we receive light and love as well as truth and grace; the truth that informs us, and the grace that enables us.

Some of the privileges we have been called to draw from are thus highlighted below:

For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. Titus 2:11-14 (NKJV)

THE GRACE OF GOD IS TO ALL AND FOR ALL.

This is what Theologians call common Grace. Common Grace is Gods love to all people; Gods kindness to all people whether they love him back or not or whether they ever become Christians.

Psalms 104:14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth

Matthew 5:45 that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

THE GRACE OF GOD BRINGS SALVATION.

For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.

Salvation refers to the Greek word soteria which means rescue or safety (physically or morally): deliver, health, salvation, save, saving.

Appeared in that verse means revealed to all classes of people.

Grace revealed salvation to all men and women. The onus is now on you and I to take advantage of this salvation.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, this was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. John 1:14-17

Because God is love, He is gracious enough to save us from our sins, which separate us from Him. His grace brought salvation to all men? John 3:16. His grace is in the person of Jesus who became sin for us on the cross so that in Him we might be saved from our sins and become righteous in Gods eyes. ITS ALL ABOUT JESUS. He is the personification of Gods salvation and Gods grace.

Grace delivers to us all we need for life when we make God priority. According to Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

GRACE ENDS DELAY, TOILING AND STRUGGLE.

    Luke 5:1-6

And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, 2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. 3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simons, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. 4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. 5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless, at thy word I will let down the net. 6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

Peter had done everything professionally possible, toiling all through the night but unable to make any catch. In fact, the fishermen had already given up hope and therefore washed their nets until the encounter with the Grace of God. Grace did not only end the night of struggle and toiling but ushered in abundance of fish to the extent that even their colleagues could testify to the unprecedented miracle.

Giving Jesus a special place in your life and career just as Peter did can be the beginning of an overflow of blessings.

No man comes in contact with the Grace of God and keeps struggling as the Grace enables beyond your capacity. Net breaking abundance is guaranteed when Grace steps in.

    GRACE FAST-FORWARD BREAKTHROUGH.

The Grace of God has the unique ability to bypass man made protocol to deliver into your hands His promises for your life. Under normal circumstance, the bureaucracy is to go through the process of waiting for your turn but the Syrophoenician in Mark 7: 24-29 understood tapping urgently into what Grace had to offer whatever it takes to have her daughter delivered from the evil that tormented her.

Apparently, the blessing of the desired miracle was not particularly meant for her, not being a Jew but a stranger, however, she enjoyed the benefits that flow out from the Grace of God. She got what she wanted right there and then.

    Mark 7:24 -29

24 And from thence he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entered into a house, and would have no man know it: but he could not be hid. 25 For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet: 26 The woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter. 27 But Jesus said unto her, let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the childrens bread, and to cast it unto the dogs. 28 And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the childrens crumbs. 29 And he said unto her, for this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter.

    GRACE DELIVERS PROSPERITY.

2 Corinthians 8:9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

Jesus was rich but He became poor because of you and I. Your poverty was substituted for His prosperity. Grace took the place of poverty, lack and want so you can be rich in substance, ideas and have more than enough to show case his glory in your life. The prosperity of good health, lifting as well as being distinguished among your peers is the speciality of the Grace of God.

    CONCLUSION

From the highlighted points above and the true life events that took place in the time of David, we can vividly infer that the fullness of Gods Grace is not only all encompassing but we all need it to make true meaning out of life.

Life can be full of continual struggle when the Grace is not in the picture. No wonder grace and truth came by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. There is no other personality who exhibits immeasurable power and impact like him. The fullness of his Grace is available to all who come to God through Christ Jesus.

Grace and peace be to you all. God has truly been faithful to us at City of Grace Peterborough. We are an embodiment of His Grace. Not to say the least, several testimonies abound in this past nine years since this parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God was inaugurated with just 3 families. The growth in numbers, strength and most importantly spirituality is indeed the Lords doing and it is marvelous in our eyes. Members ranging from individuals to families testify to the Lords goodness and mighty hand in their lives. All the glory to our God and our maker.

We therefore celebrate our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, the sole reason for our profound gratitude who has consistently given us reasons, not only to celebrate but to revel in his unfailing love.

GRACE GIVES US FAITH TO BE SAVED.

Salvation of the soul is by the Grace of God. Personal efforts is not relevant when it comes to the Grace. If not for the Grace of God, we would not have been restored back to fellowship with God, our creator. The Grace enables us to experience the undying love of the father coupled with faith.

Ephesian 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Jesus reveals the Grace of God to mankind.

GRACE BREAKS THE YOKE OF CURSES.

Have you noticed an evil trend in your life, lineage or family, or a curse operating as a result of misdeeds, violation of laws and evil carried out in the past or satanic pronouncements? All these are injustice in the camp of Grace. In other words, no one who has experienced the Grace of God should remain under the yoke of curses as Christ had paid the ultimate sacrifice. The Grace of God in the person of Jesus breaks yokes and sets the captives free from all bondages.

Galatians 3:13-14 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John 1:14

And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace John 1:16

Happy 9th Anniversary! Your Co-Labourers in Christ,Olufemi Sanyaolu & Family

RCCG City of Grace, Peterborough, a Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God Worldwide is a divinely orchestrated agenda to fulfil Gods prophetic mandate for this generation. It is a multi-cultural church where grace transforms lives and fulfils destinies. The Church is a product of the calling of God upon the Presiding Pastor, Pastor George Akinwumi who while on a prayer retreat with his ministry mentor and Senior Pastor in 2003 felt the Holy Spirit was asking him to relocate from Nottingham to Cambridge United Kingdom. He promptly obeyed this nudging of the Holy Spirit even though it was a painful decision to take such a step at the time.

On February 2004, the whole family moved to Cambridge to wait for the next leading. It was not long when the Lord connected them with a young family (now Pastor and Pastor Mrs Dapo Adegoke). The two families started a house prayer meeting and by divine arrangement met Pastor Segun Kingsley of City of David, London who has been praying to start a parish of RCCG in Cambridge. The House prayer meeting metamorphosed into City of David Cambridge in January 2005 and after about two years, Pastor and Pastor Mrs Akinwumi were sent to start a new Parish in Peterborough.

Inaugurated on the 6th of May 2007 by Pastor George Akinwumi, with 3 families at the Tyesdale Community Centre, South Bretton Peterborough, City of Grace has continued to grow and attract people from all walks of life; a family oriented church having individuals from different backgrounds and ethnic groups. The church is located on its acquired property at Grace Tabernacle 105 Wellington Street, Peterborough, PE1 5DU where lives are imparted to become better people.

The art of worship is particularly an integral part of our meetings and premised on the scriptural command to truly worship God and to love our neighbours as ourselves. The choir plays a significant role in every service both in singing and with the instruments of praise, lifting emotional burdens through spiritual music.

The Church is built on solid prayer and prophetic foundations. Apart from the regular intercessory prayer meetings, the whole church is divided into prayer squads where every member of the church is encouraged to join a group from Sunday to Saturday for one hour of intercession. The Churchs prayer and prophetic conference also holds every February.

The Boys and Girls Brigade, 7th Peterborough is a disciplined organisation and one of the companies under the South Lincolnshire battalion, engaging the young ones, ages 5years to 7years and 8years to 11years in creative and healthy activities as well as fun games that build the mind, equip them with knowledge that acquaint them with the community; building skills, relationship, team work and growing their faith.

Events are usually organised by the battalion which include indoor sports, camping and quiz. Members from each company do participate as the case may be. Badges of promotion are awarded to the children from time to time based on their commitment, attendance and quizzes as a way to encourage the children.

The activities are done in such a way as not to discriminate against anyone. All children within the age range are welcome to join.

The meetings hold on the second and last Saturday of every month at 105 Wellington Street. PE1 5DU between 2pm and 4pm coordinated by well-trained leaders.

The children are always excited to come for meetings. They particularly look forward to every meeting. Your child can also benefit from this activities. Register today!

The Bible says a wise woman builds her home, building their children in the way of the Lord.

Solomon also built a formidable house for God and he was blessed by God. Then spake Solomon, The Lord said that he would dwell in the thick darkness. I have surely built thee a house to dwell in, a settled place for thee to abide in for ever.

And Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven: And he said, Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart: Who hast kept with thy servant David my father that thou promised him: thou spakest also with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.

RAISING A GENERATION OF CHILDREN LIKE DANIEL, MESHACH, ABEDNEGO AND ESTHER.A woman who will be filled with the spirit of God and listen to His Commandments. A woman who builds according to the pattern. There is a pattern God wants for each child He gave to us. Moses built according to the pattern he was shown; Noah got the pattern from God.

HOW TO BUILD YOUR OWN ARK FOR THE LORD

1 Prayer --We build the ark on our knees through fervent prayer. Setting a time apart to wait on the Lord for instruc-tion. Ask God for the pattern for each child You have been given.

Moses took time to ask God for the pattern in prayer

An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee. And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it. Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon. Exodus 20:24-26 KJV

2 The Word: by studying the word. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:153 Living an exemplary life: be a model for the children and the church. Live your live having the fear of the Lord, ask yourself is there any truth, is this honest, is this just and pure, are they lovely and of good report, is there any virtue or will this bring praise to the Lord. Philippians 4:8. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. Proverbs 9:10. By training our children and bringing them up in the fear of God. Proverbs 22:6 says Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

4 By laying a Godly standard for them to follow: Have a godly stan-dard for your family. Set this standard in love not using physical force to ensure that they are followed by the children but love.5 Helping the Children to take their root in God and His word. Train them in the way of God and the word of God. When they grow up they will not depart from it. We have been called to raise an army for the Lord. An army of great children who will take the battle to the gate of the enemies and challenge their ways. Raise children who will make their stand known everywhere they go and be a mouth for God in their generation. Teach them to be proud of our God; teach them to love Him and to know how great our God is. Children who will stand to change the ways things are done in our schools, government, our community, law enforcement agencies and in our society.

The generation before us went into error because of civilisation, permitting things that brought evil into the society. They rejected God by taking him out of schools, judiciary system and government; now we see all the things they allow in the society. Children are allowed to rule in homes, no discipline at home and schools. People are allowed to take any stand to make them happy. God is looking for a woman who will raise the standard of God in our land and establish His kingdom. However, to impact our community, we need to start from our homes, as the saying charity begins at home. God is calling us today and He is saying to you BUILD ME AN ARK.

as builders of Ark of Salvation

The generation of Noah is in every respect and coloration similar to this generation. The Bible gives a graphic picture of the state of humanity in that generation. Let us look at the description: wickedness and corruption, violence everywhere, sinful acts acceptable to mankind, Men love themselves more than God.

We do not need to look far away to see the similarities in our days. This generation has taken a step further to surpass the generation of Noah in wickedness albeit through the aid of technology. Today lawmakers rejoice in making laws that are contrary to the laws of God. The institution of Marriage has been redefined. Every imagination and the thoughts of the heart of men are evil continually...... Evil news on our media system every time and everywhere.

By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. Hebrews 11:7

God is still in search for women who like Noah will prepare an ark to save their own households. He is looking everywhere, to and fro the earth for a man and especially a WOMAN WHO WILL BE ABLE TO BIRTH HIS PURPOSE on earth like Noah. He is looking for a mother on whom He will pour His grace on to do what He wants for the generation that is coming after us. A woman who will willingly allow God to use her in raising a godly home...

OBSTACLES TO BUILDING A FORMIDABLE HOME

    1) Unbelief: Rachael believed in idols of her fathers house and her life was cut short. Hebrews 3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

    2) Carelessness: Having a carefree attitude about the things of God and not putting our minds to it can form a stumbling block to building a formidable home.

    3) Cares of this world: Giving priority to Fashion, for example, has a way of shifting ones focus from more important issues.

4). Emulation and comparison: You eventually become what you emulate. In this case, following in the steps of bad examples has a way of causing a deep crack that leads to the crumbling of the home. Making comparisons is not particularly a wise idea as you do not know the details that produced such seemingly remarkable result.

    5) Faulty Foundation: A house built on the word of God, the Rock, will not only be a formidable home but will also stand the test of time. The foundation determines the strength and durability of the house.

Lois prepared an ark for her household and produced in Eunice a godly mother. Eunice brought up Timothy in the fear and wisdom of God. When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. 2 Timothy 1:5

Women of God, I encourage you to build with joy, wisdom, confidence and faith because God is depending on us to build an ark of salvation for our children and grandchildren like Lois and Eunice

YOU MIGHT NEED TO SEE A DENTIST!

COULD YOU GIVE AN HOLISTIC DEFINITION OF DENTISTRY?Dentistry is the art and science of taking care of the teeth, the mouth and the supporting structures of the mouth like the jaw and the cheek bones. The teeth grow out of the jaws and has suppporting tissues like the gum and the alveola bones.

How should the teeth be taking care of?Brush the teeth at least twice daily; both in the morning and after meal at night.

WHAT ARE THE FEATURES OF AN IDEAL TOOTHBRUSH?An ideal toothbrush must have a long brushing surface. The bristle must be straight. It becomes ineffective when it bends permanently.Furthermore, the brush must neither be too hard or too soft but must be wide enough to cover as many tooth as possible and narrow enough to enter the crevis of the mouth.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD ONE VISIT A DENTIST?It is necessary for one to visit a dentist at least twice a year to have the teeth examined. The dentist does thorough cleaning of the teeth better than we can do at home. He is capable of removing food particles which ordinarily cannot be removed by the use of a toothbrush. Paying a dentist a visit serves as a preventive measure against tooth decay and other related infections. The dentist is able to detect dental diseases at their prime stage and institute prompt therapy before they become symptomatic.

WHAT IS SCALING AND POLISHING?Scaling and polishing refer to the periodical cleaning of the teeth by the dentist. Food remnants pile up in between the teeth and become calcified(tartar) resulting in a dental plaque. These calculus abhor bacteria that cause damage to

the gum. Gum infections are gengivitis and periodontitis. Once the calculus is hardened, the toothbrush is no longer able to remove the food remnants. A dentist is therefore required at that stage.

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON THE USAGE OF CHEWING STICKS?Chewing sticks are only effective if used properly to brush all the surfaces of the teeth. The teeth has different surfaces: the top, the bottom and the outer surface. Many atimes, chewing sticks are only chewed but not used as brushing sticks.

WHAT EFFECT DOES SUGARY/SWEET FOODS HAVE ON THE TEETH?Foods containing refined sugar- chocolate, biscuits and fruit drinks, should be avoided as much as possible otherwise one must toothbrush or rinse the mouth with water to dilute the effect of sugar. Sugar produces acidic materials on which the bacteria feeds on and causes damage to the teeth. Eating between meals can be dangerous. One is advised to take sugary foods during meals. The reason being that starchy foods neutralise the acidic materials produced by the refined sugar. More acidic materials are produced when sugar is taken in isolation. The sole effect of sugary foods on the teeth is decay. Tooth decay, scientifically known as caries, starts from the hard part of the mouth to the soft part(pop), causing a swelling of the jaw, cheeks and ultimately death if not treated on time.

WHAT IS WRONG IN USING TOOTHPICKS?Toothpicks are not ideal in the removal of food particles between the teeth. They damage the gum particularly because of the way they are used.Dental floss is highly preferable. They cause less damage to the gum. Ideal toothpick should be made of soft wood. Toothpick produced in this part of the country is made of hard wood.

Dont let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity. Do not neglect the spiritual gift you received through the prophecy spoken over you when the elders of the church laid their hands on you. Give your complete attention to these matters. Throw yourself into your tasks so that everyone will see your progress. Keep a close watch on how you live and on your teaching. Stay true to what is right for the sake of your own salvation and the salvation of those who hear you. 1 Timothy 4:12, 14-16 NLT

Dont let the excitement of youth cause you to forget your Creator. Honor him in your youth before you grow old and say, Life is not pleasant anymore. Remember him before the light of the sun, moon, and stars is dim to your old eyes, and rain clouds continually darken your sky. Remember him before your legsthe guards of your housestart to tremble; and before your shouldersthe strong menstoop. Remember him before your teethyour few remaining servantsstop grinding; and before your eyesthe women looking through the windowssee dimly. Remember him before the door to lifes opportunities is closed and the sound of work fades. Now you rise at the first chirping of the birds, but then all their sounds will grow faint. Remember him before you become fearful of falling and worry about danger in the streets; before your hair turns white like an almond tree in bloom, and you

The above sighted scriptures have never stopped to amaze and amuse me as I grow up and consider my thoughts and plans and weigh them against what God expects of me and what the society enforces on me. While Gods expectations seem very clear to me as I could glean them through the pages of the scriptures, societys expectation has never stopped to befuddle me, as they keep changing like an active yoyo. It becomes even more challenging as I realise that the society prism of looking at me is so distorted and the rules are so uneven that I get so confused and discomfited more often than not. Until I realised that society itself has lost its compass of navigation and definition. Society is now being run by fads, conveniences, Machiavellian principles and

weirder the act the better. Society indeed has been corrupted. We all have only one life to live and the best we make of it, the more fulfilled we are going to be. Time waits for no one, like it or not, you cant stop yourself from ageing and you cant live this stage of your life again once it has passed. My mother told me she gave birth to me and now I have the responsibility of self-rebirth. In essence, your destiny is in your hands as you navigate through the murky waters of life. You can either allow the world to shape you or you shape the world. The choice is yours.

My intent is not to give you a magic wand to be infused to you externally but rather to awaken the right choices that are dormant within you and encourage you to create a right atmosphere that will fester these attributes. The war is from within and it must be won from within.

Get a factory reset: one of my gadgets developed a fault of recent, did all I could do, but it will not work. I took it to the manufacturers office and holla! They did a reset and got it back as new. Same with many youths, the society has got so deep into us and beyond that the human race has wandered away from God the maker of mankind; we need a factory reset to get us back to Gods

original templates for our lives from the fall of man in the garden of Eden (Genesis 3).

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of Gods glorious standard. Yet God freely and graciously declare that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, Romans 3:23-25 NLT

Understand your purpose: has it ever occurred to you what your purpose is in life? What are you here for? Your creation was not by accident, God took time to create you for a purpose and therefore you are of value (Jeremiah 29 vs 11; Psalms 139 vs 14). Many youths today are just copying fads, they just want to flow with the joneses, however, fads will soon pass away and the joneses will soon go into oblivion then they are left empty and disillusioned. But when you understand your purpose and you pursue it, there is always a sense of fulfilment and excitement that you are fulfilling your role in Gods plan. The easiest way to know the purpose of an appliance is to consult the manufacturers manual. It might interest you to know that there are volumes in there written about you (Hebrew 10 vs 7)

Mind your exposure: The importance of exposure cannot be better understood than via the illustration of the principle of the camera. The quality of the image captured by a camera is dependent on the exposure its aperture captures. So also many today are taking up the image of their friends, environment and people around them they are exposed to. That is why you must choose your company carefully. Let your choice be based on what you want to become more than what or who is available. Often than not, you always find people of the same circle either succeed or fail together. Its the law of attraction. Also failure or

success is quite rampant in certain locality than the others. Always mind whose stories you listen to. Remember the story of the twelve spies (Numbers 13 vs 25-33, 14 vs 1-12). They were youths like you, but the friendship of the ten determined their paths that ended in failure while the friendship of Caleb and Joshua, made them to see opportunities were others saw failure and they were adequately rewarded. Dont doubt it, your exposure matters.

Attitude is altitude: Friends the new name of altitude is attitude! The line across the attribute of highly effective people is great attitude. The attitude of gratitude, cheerful heart, taking responsibility for owns action, integrity, stewardship and service to others without expecting rewards, diligence, honesty and modesty in appearance will never run out of fashion. Attitude can be learnt and unlearned. So you can learn good ones and unlearn bad ones. Its contagious, so mind your exposure, its palpable, so it can be felt and without doubt, its of value, so it distinguishes those that have it. Attitude is everything. (Philippians 4 vs 8-9)

Discipline: Guess this word, but for the dictionary, would have gone into extinction. We all want to be free, do things the way we like, stay on social media, play games or watch television all day. Its cool right? Not so cool friend. You cant be spending all day watching television and appear on it. You must learn to do things in moderation because many resources (like time, money, food, opportunities) are limited and you need to make the best use of them. You need to discipline yourself, also, to learn to delay gratifications as there is time for everything. Many great futures have been frittered via casual sex, inappropriate behaviour or unguarded talk/disclosure on social media (Hebrew 12:15-16). You need to be deliberate, consentience and goal driven. Put yourself under check friends.

The End: Just as the age of the cradle came to an end, so will the days of youth end one day, not

Speaking in Tongues a must for all Christians?

Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Saviour, spoke about the gift of tongues when He said, And these signs shall follow them that believe; in my name they shall cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues. (Mark 16:17). The adjective new (Greek, kainos) means they were going to speak in languages new to them, i.e., languages they had not learned or used before. In Acts of the Apostles 2:4 a different adjective was used thus: they began to speak with other tongues. The word other (Greek, heteros) simply means that they spoke in languages different from the normal language they were used to.

    WHAT IS SPEAKING IN TONGUES?

Speaking in tongues is the New Testament experience where a person speaks in a language that is unknown to him. This language is either the language of angels or other earthly languages (1 Corinthians 13:1; Acts 2:6-8). It occurred in Acts 2 at Pentecost and also in the Corinthian church as recorded in 1 Corinthians 14.

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 1 Corinthians 13:1 KJV

There seems to be three divisions in the use of tongues: (1) useful as a private prayer language that does not require interpretation, (2) useful as a language that requires interpretation if it is to be used in the Christian gathering, (3) useful in the missionary context of evangelism where people present the Gospel (Isaiah 28:11).

Today there is much debate as to the validity of speaking in tongues, especially since there is so much misuse of it in Christian circles.

Nevertheless, some Christian churches teach that all the charismatic gifts (speaking in tongues, word of knowledge, prophecy, etc.,) have ceased with the completion of the New Testament (1 Corinthians 13:8-12; 12:30; 14:5). Others maintain that the charismatic gifts are still for the church today (1 Corinthians 1:7). Although speaking or not speaking in tongues does not affect ones salvation, it enhances Christians stand in faith. It is like an end-to- end encrypted app given to help in our personal relationship with our God, so that third parties cant interfere.

THE MINISTRY OF SPEAKING IN TONGUES

God overcame the language barrier introduced in Babel through the miracle-gift of tongues. The Scriptures gave reasons why God gave the gift of speaking in tongues:

    (1) To communicate the Gospel message (Acts 10:44-46; 19:1-6; 1Corinthians 14:22)

    (2) To confirm the Gospel message (Mark 16:20; 2Corinthians 12:12; Hebrews 2:3-4)

    (3) For self-edification and improvement (1 Corinthians 14:4)

    (4) For the edification of the Church when it can be interpreted (1 Corinthians 14:27-28)

    (5) Useful in prayer, especially in private prayer life (John. 4:24; Romans 8:26-27; 1Corinthians 14:15)

It would be naive and out of place to argue that Paul tried to discourage speaking in tongues in his letter to the Corinthians when he, himself boasted of speaking in tongues:

I thank my God; I speak with tongues more than ye all: 1 Corinthians 14:18 KJV

Since Our Lord, Jesus Christ, spoke of speaking in tongues by his believers and the Apostles experienced this in their ministries, Cornelius and his associates as well as Gentiles; therefore, it will not be out of place to encourage every believer to desire this gift. All the gifts are yours for asking and enjoyment as we serve Him (Acts 10:24, 44-46; 1 Corinthians. 12:31; 14:1; Matthew 7:7-8)

Consequently, if speaking in tongues is not a must because it does not affect ones salvation, it should be considered a necessity in our Christian experience (pilgrimage on earth) (Proverbs 4:7; Matthew 25:3-4)

drag along without energy like a dying grasshopper, and the caper berry no longer inspires sexual desire. Remember him before you near the grave, your everlasting home, when the mourners will weep at your funeral. Yes, remember your Creator now while you are young, before the silver cord of life snaps and the golden bowl is broken. Dont wait until the water jar is smashed at the spring and the pulley is broken at the well. For then the dust will return to the earth, and the spirit will return to God who gave it. Ecclesiastes 12:1-7 NLT

someday. Its natural to feel invincible at this age and to even act it. But sooner than later it will come to an end. The question that must come to your mind is what will you remember these days for? Some are living with regrets of what they did at this stage of their lives while others are thankful for the great memories of laudable happenstance they had. But unfortunately, a large chunk of people lived it without a mark or memory, they said it just flew away and wish they could rewind time but time waits for no one.

Moreover, beyond the circle of time that will naturally spin, friends will naturally move on. There is also the cessation of life at this side to continue in eternity at the other side. Have you asked yourself where you would spend eternity, with God or without him? (1 Thessalonians 4 vs 13-18; Revelations 20 vs 11-15).

Let me conclude by letting you know that as long as the ship does not allow the sea water to get into her, she will continue to sail and get to the shore successfully. Dont let the corruption of this age get inside of you.

You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. You are the light of the worldlike a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:13-16 NLT

    Dating My Love

I looked out through the window as the new day dawned, with my cup of coffee in hand. It was a Sunday my most relaxing day of the week. However, on this day which I eventually would call special, I watched the day break. I noticed the beauty of the day shine through, in a gradual process as the illumination of the sun became brighter. Things began to take shape, the beautiful landscape, trees, plants, birds and houses that were merely shadows in the dark, all began to take shape and become real figures and active. I then realised that the light makes all things beautiful, colourful, perfect and great. Everything around has a role in making the final picture great. I then said a little prayer in my mind without understanding (Let light come into my life and make me great). I then purposed to go to church that day.It was a glorious message, I answered the altar call and I received Jesus as my Lord and personal saviour. I received a new life and old things had passed away. I was genuinely overjoyed and there was great peace within me. I knew things had changed and my mind needed to be renewed. I was on my path to true greatness. In renewing my mind, I prayerfully searched the scriptures with the help of the Holy Spirit and asked for guidance from more experienced Christians and the Pastors. I began to imbibe the Christ like life, for others around me to be witnesses of the salvation I freely received. I attended bible studies, Sunday school classes, prayer meetings and joined the work force. As the years went by I became rooted in the word of God and I began to eat more of spiritual meat. I felt it was time for me to get settled. I was spiritually, physically, emotionally and financially stable. I then thought, Christian dating and courtship what do I really know about this topic? Once again I prayerfully searched the scriptures and asked questions from the church leaders. In my quest to find answers I reminisced on the past and I thought of images of who an ideal wife should be, which I had programmed in my head. Someone God fearing (but I couldnt really define what that meant), prayerful, beautiful, loyal, educated, slim, intelligent, homely, enterprising and stable. However, I realised quickly that as a Christian my desires must be totally subject to the will of God.

As a Christian my choices should not be made in response to the flesh or carnal desire but in complete obedience to the will of God. It cant be done like it is in the secular world where choices of dating and courtship are done without the primary aim of marriage and the relationship can be initiated by anyone. Where, you can try multiple relationships with people until you find someone right. Where there is no accountability and dating is very secretive with no responsible authority to hold partners to account. It is also a situation where emotional or physical intimacy is the primary goal of both parties.

I therefore found from the scriptures that It is Gods desire, that my soul should prosper in all areas 3rd John 2:1. I also realised that finding a wife is a good thing and with it comes with the gift of favour that will help to achieve great things in life Proverbs 18:22 and Proverbs 19:14. Christian dating must be devoid of physical contact and there must be an uncompromising understanding of the avoidance of temptation 1Corinthians 6: 9 -20, James 1: 13-15, Titus 2: 1-8. Dating Christians should not be alone behind closed doors, so that the relationship can bring glory to God.Christian dating and Courtship must have Christ, at the centre of it and it involves a man and a woman who prayerfully and purposefully seek Gods face with the intent of marriage. They must share their visions and goals. They must know what they want and must complement each other. There must be love and an undoubted belief that the other person is Gods will for them and therefore the right person. With all the knowledge gained, I thought of Gods plan and purpose for my life. What were my own goals and aspirations? Who could I share my life with and what type of person would that be? I asked God for guidance in prayer and fasting. It was the first day of the year. I woke up from bed, had my quiet time and I thanked God for the new year. This year I had great expectation, I was eager and excited because I made a special request of God that he should give me the bone of my bone and the flesh of my flesh. I knew God would answer me as he always does. I wrote down, where we would have our first date and places we would visit together and I looked forward to sharing my dreams with her.

You shall not follow the masses in doing evil Exodus 23:2

It has always been much simpler for teenagers, and everyone else for that matter, to follow the crowd. No one wants to get left behind and why would they? With there being a never-ending barrage of new fads and styles, its difficult not to get caught in the rush. But what are we all rushing towards?

Pleasure. We are caught up in a world in which not many people have goals which extend past their own self pleasure; hedonism. We are caught up in a world where what is important isnt what is right or full of integrity, but what makes us feel good.

And by seeking only pleasure we can no longer relate with others. Allowing others to sweep you into the continual search for self-satisfaction may make you feel as if you are one of them. It may even make you feel that you are part of a team, but you are not. The only person a search for pleasure benefits is you and if pleasure is the only thing on your mind, you will become an island.

If you could only stop and look for a moment you may see that its only a circle. You cannot ever have the perfect style or conduct. You cannot find fulfilment through joining the never-ending spiral of fads simply because there is nothing to fulfil. You can never obtain the perfect life because there is no such thing as the perfect life. But the closest we can get to perfection is through Jesus Christ.

Peer pressure is a strange topic because its been emphasised so much that it has become a clich. Most

10 year olds in church would know what to do when sinners entice [them]. For the majority of teenagers who believe, peer pressure does not extend to the extremes. We know to abstain from violence and to keep our chastity. The problem comes when asked where to draw the line.

Was that joke really that bad?Its not actually wrong if I only do it a little. The bible doesnt explicitly say that...

The key is solidarity. Draw the line and make sure you dont cross it for anything. Still, this leaves the question of where the line should be drawn. I cannot stress the importance of honouring your parents enough. If they are deeply rooted in God, they will only ask you to do what they believe is best, but they shouldnt be your only source of guidance. Having to be told everything to do at this age really isnt healthy. So yes, listen to your parents and other church leaders. Listen to ministers and men of God both at church as well as online (though you must choose carefully). And yes, listen and talk to good friends who share your faith. However, the most important and valuable way to learn what is right or wrong is to search it for yourself; read the bible and form your own personal relationship with God. When others instruct you, you may not know why they ask you to act a certain way, and this may lead to disobedience, or compromise. Learn what is right and consolidate it with why it is right through reading the word.Peer pressure is difficult to deal with, yes. But once youve drawn that line, dont let anyone push you over it.

    DEACON ADEDAYO OLUWASANMI

Suddenly my phone rang, which was unusual as I often had it on vibration but the ringing tone was very loud and distinct. I was invited to a church youth programme. I felt very reluctant, considering it was the first day of the year. However, I made every effort to attend as the spirit of God helped me. I changed my clothing twice in a bid to suit the occasion, it was like I was going on a date. On getting there the attendance was good for an event holding on the first day of the year. I was talking to a group of people from church when suddenly the microphone made a screeching sound. I turned around to look at the music band, when I spotted a beautiful lady walk through the door from the entrance near the fountain. I was so captivated that my eyes were fixed on her for a few minutes and something told me from within, this is why you are here. To be continued.

    QUESTIONS & ANSWERS CORNER

So a woman marries a believer and then a few years after they marry, the brother stops believing ... he is still a good man at the core, but just doesnt have the faith anymore ... would she be justified if she stopped loving him?

James 1:19-20 says, My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.

This is a principle of healthy living for all believers. We should listen more and react less. The applications of James quick to listen slow to speak slow to become angry can be very useful in marriage. Husbands and wives should take the effort to really listen to each other, which may mean asking back and forth for clarification, rather than reacting in anger, which erodes a marriage. Seek to understand the reason for the objection rather than reacting in anger. When a believer observes an objection, it can be good Christian witness to listen to the reason, try to understand what it means, and to honestly engage the critic, rather than just reacting in anger.

    - The sudden change of the husband would definitely have reasons which the wife should try to find out and endeavour to address prayerfully. That should be a joint battle for the couple, theyre no longer two but one.

    - Decision to abstain from attending Church service is not enough reason to conclude that the husband is no longer a believer. Church going does not make a believer. Christianity is a thing of the heart, though in Hebrews 10 vs 25, the Bible encourages us not not to forsake the assembly of ourselves together. Has the husband renounced his faith in Christ as his Lord and Saviour?

    - It is likely the man is going through depression whereby he needs help. The woman should offer him love and seek for others help and support in prayers (Eph. 5:25-27)

    - 1Corinthians 7:12-13 forbids even divorce of an unbelieving partner as long as the partner wishes to stay in marriage

    - God hates divorce (Malachi. 2:16; Mark. 10:12)

How Do I Demonstrate that I Love my Spouse?

Love is a powerful, positive thought and feeling of well-being for another person. It is the conscious or experience of God. True love is Gods type of love, it is sacrificial and unselfish.

However, marital love has to do with our senses i.e. sight, touch, smell and hearing. A good blend in marital love involves the experience of admiration, affection, respect, compatibility, compassion and sexual attraction towards your spouse.

In order to practically demonstrate your love to your spouse, you must constantly reassure him/her of your love by saying I love you. It should not be mechanical but must come genuinely from your heart. It should not be a reward for sexual gratification, good meals, gifts, allowances and so on.

You should also act out your love for your spouse and be consistent in doing so (Proverbs 16:2-4).

This could be done in the following ways:

Through Tenderness- Giving admiring glances, affectionate touches (holding hands) and extra attention that shows that your spouse is special to you.

Giving of gifts: This should not only be birthdays and formal occasions but also regularly as a surprise. It doesnt have to be expensive but the love behind the gift is what is appreciated.

Spending Time Together: Spending time together as a couple helps strengthens relationships. Occasionally go to a special place with or without the children, go on holidays together and eat out together.

Honouring your Spouse: The wife should always treat the husband with honour and respect. Treat the husband as a king while the husband should honour his wife as well, dont ridicule her or make her feel she doesnt know what she is doing. The husband should treat his wife as queen also. 1Peter 3:7.

Sacrificing your own comfort: Husband should help the wife in doing some household chores.

Accepting your spouses short comings: Do not compare your spouse with another person or to your parents. Marry your spouses strength and weaknesses.

Being faithful: Keep being faithful even when your spouse is uncooperative, arrogant, selfish and fails to appreciate your love and sacrifice.

Prayers: Praying together as a couple will definitely strengthen the bond between husband and wife.

How to relate with ones teenage children?

Teenagers need the security and support of the family, therefore, communication becomes ever more crucial for a healthy relationship. The major problem of teenage-hood is peer pressure. Parents need a lot of wisdom and Gods leading to handle this.

To relate with teenage children successfully, the following points should be considered:

Let them know they are special and unique.

Reassure them if they are worried about their physique 1Corinthians 4:16-17

    Teenagers must be loved unconditionally

Always listen and have time to discuss with them

Assist them to build self-respect and self-discipline

    Reward them with complement

Encourage diligence especially in their academics

Answer their questions regarding sex and teach them to preserve their bodies 1Corinthians 6:13

Expose them to Christian teaching and Christian living

Discourage outings that will not glorify God

Always pray with them and maintain a consistent family altar.

    Always pray for them individually.

Do not compare them with one another. Each child is unique.
