Scholarships AvailablePacific Science Center is proud to offer summer camp scholarships for families in our community facing financial hardships. Scholarships provide a full week of unforgettable, hands-on science experiences for students who otherwise would not have access to this programming. Applications will be available online on January 22. For more information, please contact us at [email protected], with the subject

“Summer Camp Scholarships.”

Ignite Their CuriosityDonors like you ensure that families facing financial hardship have access to hands-on science camp experiences. Last summer more than $41,000 in scholarships were provided for campers all over the Puget Sound! This included 20 scholarships specially designated for foster youth in care at our partner Mary’s Place. But there is still much progress to be made; only one out of three applications for scholarship was able to be granted due to limited funds.

That’s why your support this year is essential! Please join us by adding on a gift for camp scholarships when you register using our online portal. Or contact the Development team at (206) 443-2878 or [email protected] for more information on how to support camp scholarships today. Thank you for your generous support.

Sensory-Friendly Camps

Pacific Science Center offers several sensory-friendly camps throughout the summer. These camps are adapted for children with sensory processing disorders and/or on the autism spectrum. We recommend choosing a sensory-friendly camp for your child if they work better in a quieter space. Here is what you can expect from a sensory-friendly camp:

Reduction of loud sounds Availability of a sensory toolbox (with fidgets, headphones, timers, and visual aids)

Quiet zones or “take a break” spaces Auditory, visual and kinesthetic-tactile activities that maximize a child’s ability to relax, learn and play

Movement, stretching and breathing exercises Supported transition times Lower camper to staff ratios

Look for the sensory-friendly symbol to identify these camp sessions.

OTHER PROGRAMS

LOVE OUR SUMMER CAMPS?Pacific Science Center offers many more exciting opportunities for curious minds of all ages year-round! To learn more, visit pacsci.org or call (206) 443-2925.

Parents’ Night OutEvery month, spend the night out (or in!) while your child discovers our exhibits, hands-on activities and a live science, planetarium or laser light show. Your child will enjoy a light snack upon arrival and a science-themed treat later in the evening. Participants will be supervised in age groups by our outstanding and experienced staff all evening.

Girls’ Night OutGirls’ Night Out aims to inspire curiosity in girls and nurture careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The program encourages girls to recognize their ability to achieve success in STEM subjects and build career-relevant skills. Girls’ Night Out participants engage with female professionals from different STEM fields through interactive demonstrations, one-on-one interactions and hands-on activities.

SERVICE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR TEENS

Science Educators in Training at All Summer Camp Locations We are seeking responsible teen volunteers ages 14–18 to provide valuable assistance and mentoring of campers during the summer. Teen volunteers receive training, build their professional resume, meet high school service requirements and gain the rewarding experience of contributing to their community. This experience is especially valuable for teens who are interested in careers in science, technology or education. Teens must attend a mandatory training in March or May, and be able to commit to at least 60 hours during the summer.

How to Apply:The application process includes a written portion and recommendations, followed by interviews. The application is available at pacsci.org/volunteers and is due February 1, 2019. Interviews will take place in March. Email [email protected] for more information.
