Both areas provide nursing staff diversity, with opportunities to work in different areas of the health service. Peninsula Health actively assists graduate nurses looking for employment within the networktofindopermanentpositions.

This process starts during the last half of your program. The Continuing Education & Development Unit (CEDU) helps you to liaise with the Nursing Workforce Department and Nurse Unit Managers.

From there it is up to you where you would like your career to take you.

At Peninsula Health there are numerous opportunities to enhance your clinicalknowledgeandpractice.Youhavetheabilitytoattendstudydays, courses such as Critical Care Transition Program.

Graduate progam applicationsAll applicants must registered in the Computer Match system.

3. Two relevant and recent clinical references using the template provided (or the names of two clinical referees for the Mental Health program).

Who we arePeninsula Health provides comprehensive health services to meet the needs of residents and visitors to the Mornington Peninsula and surrounding areas. Services and facilities are continually expanding in response to the region’s rapidly growing population.

Peninsula Health comprises924beds,including529acute,311continuingcareand 84 mental health across multiple sites.

Acute health providesmedical,surgical,obstetric,paediatricandpalliativecareservices,supportedbyamodernOperatingSuite,IntensiveandCoronaryCareUnits and Emergency Department at Frankston Hospital. General medical and surgicalandemergencyservicesareprovidedatRosebudHospital.

Mental Health services providebothinpatientandcommunitybasedpsychiatriccare. Services include acute care, recovery, longer term care, youth mental health, clinicalliaison,primarymentalhealthandrehabilitationwithinamentalhealthcontext.

Community and Continuing Care isthesubacutedivisionofPeninsulaHealth.Itprovidesdynamicinpatientrehabilitation,geriatricevaluationandmanagement,incorporatingoutpatientrehabilitation,aged,disabilityandcommunitybasedprograms. Peninsula Health provides innovative programs for falls prevention, diabetes,continenceanddementia.

Maternity services

TheWomen’sHealthUnitcatersforwomenduringtheirpregnancy,birthandpostnatal period. Clients are provided with the opportunity to choose their model ofcareincludingteammidwifery.AnAmbulatoryCareClinicisalsolocatedwithinthe Women’s Health Unit.

ObstetricandmidwiferyleadclinicsarerunwithinWomen’sServices.Childbirtheducationclasses,midwiferyhomecareandabreastfeedingsupportservicearealso offered.

ALevel2SpecialCareNurseryprovidesfacilitiesforupto18babiesfrom33weeks gestation onwards.

Graduate Nurses and Midwives awarded for excellence Jess Mayers knows a thing or two aboutnursinghavingworkedintheindustryforover6yearsbeforecompleting her graduate year at Frankston Hospital.

Havingwantedtobecomeanursesince she was in high school, Jess says that it was the idea of helping people in the community that lead her becominganurse.

“My mum is a personal carer, when I was younger I saw the way that she wasabletohelppeopleinherjobandthe positive impact it had on them,” said Jess.

Starting out as a personal carer, Jess then went on to complete her Enrolled NursestudiesbeforemovingtoWestern Australia where she worked with remote communities whilst completing her Registered Nurse studies.

Aftermovingbackhome,JessjoinedPeninsula Health for her graduate year whereshewasabletouseherexperiencetoexcelinherfield.

Along with other Peninsula Health graduate and post graduate Nurses and Midwives, Jess was recognised for her achievements at an awards ceremony held at Frankston Hospital in late January.

Each year Peninsula Health Nurse Educators and Nurse Managers are invited to nominategraduateswhotheybelievehavedemonstratedexcellenceinnursingbothclinicallyandprofessionallyduringtheirgraduateyear.

Jess was announced as the winner of the Graduate Nursing Award of Excellence.

AccordingtoJesstherearemanybenefitstocompletingagraduateyearwithPeninsula Health.

“The team at Peninsula Health were great. I got so much support and the educators were always there to help. I’ve even recommended them to a few friends already,” said Jess.

Other award winners recognised were: Katrina Guillot for The Mental Health Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement, Jess Kahan for The Graduate Midwifery Award of Excellence and Charissa Code for The Margaret Brazier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Critical Care.

We offer supported and comprehensive clinical experiences with dedicated Nurse Educators that supplement the theoretical component which is undertakenatyourchosenUniversity.Youwillfindtheclinicalstaffattheward level are also friendly and supportive and in partnership with you and the educators,seektoprovideyouwiththebestlearningexperiencesothatyou can gain the most from your course.

General ProgramThe Peninsula Health Graduate Nurse Program is a 52 week program commencingon2February2015.Fulltime(includingADO)andparttime(eightshiftsperfortnight)positionsareavailable.Alimitedmidyearintakeisavailable.Students interested in the mid year intake must apply through Computer Match to be guaranteed a mid year position.

Clinical rotations will include morning and afternoon shifts and in some areas may alsoincludenightshifts.Annualleavewillbeprogrammedintotheclinicalrotation.

Professional development A theoretical component (in the format of paid continuing professional developmentdays)isprovided.Theprogramcontentreflectsthelearningneedsofthebeginningpractitioner.AthreedaygraduatenursespecificOrientationProgram is also provided. All Graduate Nurses have access to a dedicated e-Learning page including a communication forum. All Graduates complete three small, clinically-relevant projects.

ThroughouttheyearGraduateswillbeassistedtodevelopaProfessionalPortfolio.ThePortfoliowillenabletheGraduatetodemonstrateprogressthroughout the program, highlight achievements as well as meeting Continuing

Professional Development standards for Registration.

Withtheacuityofpatientswithinthesub-acuteareasincreasing,graduateswillhavetheopportunitytoconsolidatebothacuteandrehabilitation-orientatedskills.Graduates within this stream work closely with the allied health team to develop a truly holistic approach to care. There is a strong focus on Person Centred Care thatenablesGraduateNursestotrulyengagewiththepatientsandtheirfamilies,creatingamorepositiveexperienceforthepatientsandagreatersenseofjobsatisfaction for Graduates.

Throughteamleadingrolesandresponsibilities,GraduateNursesdevelopstrongleadershipqualities.TheserolesandresponsibilitiesassistGraduatesindeveloping effective communication, time management and prioritisation skills whilst creating a sense of worth through the inclusive team approach that exists withinsub-acuteareas.

MidwiferyThe program is designed to allow Midwifery Graduates to consolidate their learning within Women’s, Children’s and Adolescent Health at Frankston Hospital. Theprogramrunsover52weekscommencingon2February2015.Full-time(includingADO)andpart-time(eightshiftsperfortnight)positionsareavailable.

Professional development Continuing professional development includes paid study days with a focus on MidwiferyspecificeducationincludingsessionsintheSimulationCentre.

AfourweekrotationtoTeamMidwiferywillofferlowriskbirthingandafourweekrotation to Women’s Services will provide experience in Midwives Clinic.

During the second half of the Graduate Program, an elective rotation of 2 weeks totheSpecialCareNurserymaybepossible.

Mental HealthMental Health nursing is an interesting and challenging area of nursing. It requires acombinationofclinicalandinterpersonalskillstopromoteanindividual’swellbeingandrecovery.

Mental Health nurses work in a variety of settings, including acute inpatient units (adult and aged), recovery programs, community teams (adult and aged), youth services and emergency departments.

Professional development All new Graduate Nurses will complete an orientation program incorporating all mandatory training and recovery training. Graduate Nurses are supported in their development with monthly study days covering a range of mental health topics and regular clinical supervision.

Mental Health clinical rotationsThree clinical rotations• 2 West- Acute adult inpatient• 1 West - Acute aged inpatient • Community Care Units One elective rotation from a choice of:

• CLEARS - Adult Community Team• CLIPS - Triage and Emergency Department assessments• Youth Mental Health Service• Aged Persons Mental Health Community Team

Each area of clinical placement is worth credit points towards the Graduate DiplomainNursing(MentalHealth)withMonashUniversity.Objectivesandassessmentsforeachareaandadditionalassessmentsaretobecompletedtoreceive the credit points.

The remaining credit points are completed through course work with Monash University.Thiscoursemustbecompletedwithintwoyearsofcommencingthe graduate year.
