IN THE HORIZONTAL POSITION BOTH THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR SPACE OF THE DWELLING CAN BE INHABITED. THE ROOF CAN BE UTILIZED AS AN ELEVATED PAVILLION WELL THE FRONT AND REAR OPENING PANELS CAN BE FOLDED OUT OF THE STRUCTURE TO EXTEND THE INTERNAL SPACE OF THE DWELLING.

THE PAVILION ACTS A SPACE TO VIEW, A PLACE TO OBSERVE, A DESTINATION IN THE LANDSCAPE. LOCATED ALONG THE EDGE OF THE BOW RIVER, INTERWOVEN WITH THE TREED LANDSCAPE, THE PAVILION ACTS A PLACE OF REFUGEE; CLOSING ITS SPINE TO THE ELEMENTS AND A PLACE OF PROSPECT; OPENING TO THE VAST MOUNTAIN RANGE. A VAIL OF CORTEN RECORDS FLOODING OVER IN SITU OVER TIME.

THE DALHOUSIE SCHOOL OF MUSIC ACTS AS THE THRESHOLD BETWEEN DALHOUSIE’S STUDLEY AND CARLETON CAMPUS AS WELL AS A THRESHOLD BETWEEN THE WESTERN RESIDENTIAL AND EASTERN INDUSTRIAL FABRIC OF THE CITY.
THE SCHOOL OF MUSIC TAKES INSPIRATION FROM THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF A TREE AS IT GESTURES TOWARDS THE SKY ALWAYS SEEKING NATURAL LIGHT AND FRESH AIR. THE PRINCIPLES INSTILLED WITHIN NATURE, SPECIFICALLY A TREE, ARE THE DRIVING FACTORS IN REGARDS TO THE EVOLUTION OF THE BUILDING. NATURAL LIGHT AND VENTILATION ARE ESSENTIAL FOR A ALL LIVING BEING THEREFORE IT BECAME A PRIMARY DESIGN INTENTION FOR EACH PERSON TO HAVE ACCESS TO THESE SYSTEMS.

THE DALHOUSIE SCHOOL OF MUSIC IS DIVIDED BETWEEN TWO BUILDINGS AS A RESPONSE TO THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT AS WELL AS SITE AND PROGRAM SPECIFIC CONDITIONS. THIS DIVISION CREATES A GRADIENT OF ZONES AND THRESHOLD THROUGH THE SITE AND BUILDING CREATING AN OPTIMAL MUSIC EDUCATION ENVIRONMENT WELL MAINTAINING A HIGH-LEVEL PERFORMANCE VENUE. THE BUILDING ENGAGES WITH ITS COMMUNITY PHYSICALLY THROUGH AN OUTWARD GESTURE WELL ACTING AS A MAKER OF PLACE.

Whereis the siteThe site is located on the northeast corner of the intersection of Wesbrook Mall and University Boulevard. It is owned by the British Columbia Synod of the Evangelical Church in Canada. The Lutheran Church built the current Campus Centre almost 50 years ago in 1965, and since then has actively operated its ministry in cooperation with other religious groups and service.

TASKS ON THE ST.PAUL’S AND UBC MEDICAL LIBRARY RENOVATION PROJECT INCLUDED DECISION MAKING, CLIENT RELATION, OVERSEEING CONSTRUCTION DEVELOPMENT AND SCHEDULING AS WELL AS COORDINATING DESIGN AND DETAIL INTENTIONS. ACTING AS PROJECT ASSISTANT CREATED OPPERTUNITY FOR CONTINUED INTERACTION WITH CLIENTS, CONSTRUCTION PERSONNELLE, AND CONSULTANTS.
PRODUCTIVE LANDSCAPES ALAMAR, HAVANA, CUBA
REDEFINING THE URBAN LANDSCAPE:PURPOSING GREEN AND LATENT SPACE FOR THE CREATION OF THE CONTINUOUSLY PRODUCTIVE.
A PLACE AND A PERSON, CAN THEY BE CONCEIVED OF IN THE SAME MANNER. A SENSE OF IDENTITY, OR THE VERY LACK OF IT. CAN THE “IT” BE GROUNDED WITHOUT A CONTEXT. ALAMAR, A PLACE OF PROGRESS, NOW A PLACE OF REGRESS, THE UTOPIAN CITY, THE WELL CONCIEVED BUT UNCOMPLETE “CITY”. SCARCITY AND ISOLATION, LACK OF IDENTITY, SEPERATION FROM PLACE; DESCRIPTIVE WORDS. A PLACE OF POTENTIAL, WAITING FOR AN INTERVENTION, A REVITALIZATION, A COMPLETION.
A COMMUNITY; VIBRANT, DEVELOPED FROM A LACK. A VOICE FOUND THROUGH MEDIUM, THE EARTH; ITS MATERIAL, THE ENVIRONMENT; ITS CONTEXT, FOSTERING LIFE IN THE NEW FUNDEMENTALS. ART AND AGRICULTURE, COMBINED TO CREATE A NEW ENTITY. THE LANDSCAPE, A DEVICE FACILATATING THE MEANS, A PROGRAM CREATING PRODUCTIVE TENSION WITHIN THE EVERYDAY, A “STRUCTURE” ORGANIZING THE CALM WITH THE CHAOS. A HYBRID; LANDSCAPE, ARCHITECTURE, ECOLOGY, COMMUNITY, CULTURE, SOCIETY; THE BUILT AND THE UNBUILT.
THE CITY AND THE LANDSCAPE, UPDATING IN RESPONSE TO THE PERCEIVED NEW REALITIES AND NECESSITIES OF SOCIETY, ALLOWING FOR BOTH THE UTILITARIAN LANDSCAPE AND THE DREAMSCAPE TO COEXIST IN AN URBAN CONTEXT AND THE CITIZEN.
THE CHAOS. THE CALM. A HYBRID; LANDSCAPE, ARCHITECTURE, ECOLOGY, COMMUNITY, CULTURE, SOCIETY; THE BUILT AND THE UNBUILT. THE FUNDEMENTS OF THE ALAMAR; ART AND AGRICULTURE.

AGRICULTURE ART LEISURE PROGRAMITICS SYNERGIES BETWEEN AGRICULTURE, ART. AND LEISURE ACTIVITIES WERE CREATED THROUGH ADAJACENIES AND PROXIMITIES WITH THE PROPOSED PRODUCTIVE LANDSCAPE. A LANDSCAPE WHICH IS DEVELOPED OVER TIME, ANCHORING AND GROWING IN AND WITH THE COMMUNITY OF ALAMAR.
