studio: simply housingurban green fall semester 2010

a multi-family housing project in the douglas neighborhood of chicago, illinois

seeks to implore sustainable strategies that creates a cohesive but dynamic

housing infill for the neighborhood. the buildings employ living green machines

that filter, collect, and disperse rainwater and waste. the south facade contains

a terra cotta fin system that assists in diffusing light away and into each unit.

a detailed site analysis propsed additional program [grocery, fitness, cafe]

supplement the housing to provide much needed amenities to the neighborhood.

thesislandscape syenergy fall & winter 2010 - 2011

a synergetic and mutualistic environment provokes the architectural discipline

to manifest design that promotes ecological, political, and social conflictions in

the urban industrial sector. the thesis implores an urban industrial manufacturing

facility that embraces an endosymbiotic relationship of a hydrogen energy

plant with the tissue of the earth. the goal of the thesis intends to create self

sustaining research nodes for the promotion of bio technologies.

architecture representationgraffiti book fall semester 2010

a typographical exploration of the city of detroit, the graffiti book represents

a collection of art that inhabits the dequindre cut in the riverfront district just

east of the renaissance center. a greenway now occupies the dequindre cut

allowing recreational users to celebrate the art. the book’s cover is stop sign

that was generously donated by the city of ann arbor. the rest of the book is

composed of water color paper and canvas.

the university of michigan has a long running program that sends students

to architecture firms across the nation called spring externship. i had the

honor to work at Miller|Hull architects in seattle, washington for the week. the

project above was a quick representation of my deepest gratitude for the firm

and individual employees that i worked closely with for the week. the cards

are made from bristol, chip board, and canvas.

architecture of objectsikebana vasehanging light winter semester 2011winter semester 2011

ikebana is a japanese term that translates to ‘living flower’ and represents a

disciplined art form in which humanity and nature are meant to be brought

together. the piece shown above is made from zinc and rockite in a simple yet

elegant representation for a floating flower. the form work for the rockite was

cnc milled from mdf and sealed with an epoxy resin for waterproofing. the

zinc was cut utilizing a cnc water jet system.

the hanging light is meant to provide an illusion of floating. the light is hung

from 10 lb fishing line that limits the connection from ceiling to fixture.

burlap, cotton, and welding rod compose the materials used in the light. four

fluorescent bulbs illuminate the fixture and provide a soft warm light to the

space it occupies.
