CONGRATULATIONS, CLASS OF '07 - WE MADE IT!

Krzysztof Gruca

Anna Gruzman

the Nobel Peace Prize Class of 2007

Page 4: Graduation 2007

I was at a regular, boring family dinner just a few weeks ago making faces at my cousin when we started to chat about the adults we were sitting with. During the whole two hours that my family and I had been at the Chinatown restaurant, they had chatted about nothing but depressing topics including retirement, cancer, back pain, working overtime, depression, Social Security and health in-surance.

I decided at that point that that I did not want to grow up; I wanted to stay age 17 for the rest of my life. But now, as I am about to graduate from high school, I have no choice but to accept my fate. I will be an adult. And with that fate, comes a responsibility like no other.

For the past 13 years, we se-niors have been sitting in our little comfort zones, relishing the group of friends we’ve always hung out with and that “area” in the courtyard where we always are during break. But now, it’s, as the Disney movie says, “A whole new world, a new fantastic point of view!”

Open your eyes, seniors. The world is now in front of you. Anything and almost everything is laid out on a cloth, ready for taking. Everyone knows that time passes by quickly but how much time have we wasted? In fact, we’ve said, “Wow, it seems only like yesterday that we were…” countless times. Before we know it, we – the seventeen and eighteen-year olds at CVHS will be wrinkly old men and women complaining about the government taking away all of our money. Luckily for now, we’re young, healthy, strong, passionate and full of vivacity. We can do anything, we are the future!

Congratulations, Class of 2007– we did it. After 13 years (yes, Kindergarten counts) of te-dious homework assignments, late-night studying, ridiculously difficult tests, incompetent or in-spiring teachers, cliques, gossip, drama, practices, rehearsals, caf-eteria food, broken lockers, argu-ments and love, it is all officially coming to an end. Forever. No turning back. But that’s okay.

We have a whole new world, where bigger and better things await us. I just really hope wrinkles aren’t part of the pack-age deal, too.

The Flora Factor

Chris (Hong Zhe) Qian is considered to be one of the best photographers around. He first started playing with a camera at the tender age of five but never really found his true passion until the ninth grade. It was then that a loving uncle placed a beautiful camera in his hands that Chris saw the world around him in a completely new light. With his camera, Chris hopes to go forward in the future through college and may even pursue a career as a photojournalist with his trusty camera in hand. Chris also has to thank the photography and journalism classes for giving him the opportunity and inspiration to pursue his passion.

With her roots torn away from San Lorenzo, her beloved hometown, Ellen Yau has settled quite nicely since her admittance to CVHS two and a half years ago. Besides seeing herself as a transferee, Ellen is

Flora Tsang, best known by her energy, short stature and Flora Factor columns, hascomealongwayfromthedaysof handsoccerandflowernecklaces. Not too much is known about Kamry Zhang, much less how to spell or say her name correctly. What is known about her might just be exaggerated rumors spread by others who don’t know all the aspects of her slightly eccentric mind. Contrary to popular belief, Kamry does have a sensitive side. When she was younger, she used to cry whenever someone or something died in a movie or a book, including the villain. She might still tear up once in a while but she’ll try hard not to be caught. If she were to get caught, she would not want to be comforted. To get the real story, just go talk to her. She can be quite talkative sometimes but otherwise she is deathly quiet or staring at the nonexistent view out the nearest window.

Saritha would like to thank: God, her parents in Thailand, her sister Parada, Auntie Dang, Auntie Rin, and the rest of her 70 relatives for all of their warm support and guidance; all of the CVHS staff members who have helped her suc-ceed and have made her education experience priceless throughout her high school career; Madrianne for taking care of her on her first day at CVHS, Tracy who makes her smile, and everybody whose numbers she has on her cell phone. Other than being the photo editor of The Olympian, Saritha also plays golf for the school and for pleasure, en-joys all forms of art, and is very involved in her community service club Interact. She will be leaving for UCLA next fall and she hopes to pursue her interest in medicine while continuing her love of dance. ¡Vuela, vuela!
