like new. (Asked how someone so young knows so much about detailing, Nathan replied, “I’ve been working 70-hour weeks for 11 years so that’s really like 20 years.”) Officer Howard Noble of U.S. Customs and Border Protection was on hand to sign up those who are Bahamas-bound with a Local Boater Option, a way to pre-register traveling boaters who can then phone-in their entry instead of reporting in person. Officer Noble signed up 25-30 people at the Fest; he reported that usually he only sees a couple registrants per event. A live auction of artwork, fishing charters, golf and hotel packages, and other contributed items raised $10,000 that was contributed to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). The Fish Tale Grady club presented a check to NAMI’s executive director, Kathryn Leib Hunter, at its April mem-bership meeting. Pete and Marilyn Pehrson from Key Largo, FL, were impressed with the Fest’s venue, seminar organization, and food service. “We were particular-ly impressed by the availability of the Grady-White executives in attendance and their willingness to listen.” Pete is commodore of the Gradys in Paradise owners’ club sponsored by Caribee Boats, Islamorada, FL.

George Pacharis was this year’s fes-tival chairman. “I’m thankful to God who blessed us with absolutely perfect weather. I’m also thankful for all the Grady-White owners who took time to attend the Grady Fest. I am very proud of the Fish Tale Grady Club for all their hard work. I’m also proud of the club’s relationship with Fish Tale Sales & Service. It took cooperation between all of us to make the Grady Fest happen. And it was very reward-ing to see so many owners having fun and enjoying each others’ company.” “To all the participants that came on a beautiful ‘Chamber of Commerce’ day, from all over the country, thanks for being here,” said Ray Jahn, Fish Tale sales manager. “Our appreciation goes to these Grady owners, and the factory executives whose ability to draw excite-ment from the crowd and passion for their products is unparalleled.” The factory team was delighted with the contagious enthusiasm. “It was like a family reunion, seeing folks from last year’s Fest and those we’ve met at fishing tournaments, dealer events and boat shows,” exclaimed Shelley Tubaugh, vice president of human resources. David Neese, vice president of engineering, added,

“Grady Fest showed clearly that these Grady owners have discovered that being a part of the family is more than just owning a boat; it extends to mak-ing new friends and creating awesome new experiences year after year.”

Mark Doggett, vice president of manufac-turing, summed up the sentiments. “It was incredibly gratifying and inspiring to see so many of our customers celebrating the Grady lifestyle.”

The Chesapeake Bay Grady-White Club, sponsored by Tri-State Marine in Deale, MD, held its big Holiday Party in January at the Podickory Point Yacht Club. February’s flea market saw a steady crowd all day and earned about $300 for the club. The 2010 season kick-off meeting in March featured a potluck dinner and Captain Wayne Morgan detailing tricks for hooking devious trophy rockfish. Upcoming events include the 8th Annual Grady Lady Tournament in June, and Grady Palooza III in August.

The Grady Bunch from Vero Marine Center, Vero Beach, FL, says spring couldn’t come soon enough after the

winter we’ve had. In March there was a lunch cruise to Ft. Pierce, and the Grady Fest in Ft. Myers Beach. April Fools Day saw a backwater run aground cruise up the Sebastian River, and a week later the group did an overnight raft up at Hole in the Wall Island. Stay tuned for the results of their inaugural Grady Bunch Fishing Tournament.

The Somers Point Grady-White Club, sponsored by Somers Point Marina in New Jersey, reports that Gary McCloskey landed a 49-inch, 45.5-pound striper in November aboard his Gulfstream 232, The Widowmaker. Gary won the club’s striper and fluke categories in last fall’s tournament.

The Tampa Bay Grady-White Club, sponsored by Quality Boats of Clearwater, FL, was fortunate and generous enough to be able to make holiday donations to several area charitable organizations at the end of 2009. As Greg Arterburn, club president, put it so well, “We are a family oriented club...and while we operate on a very limited budget gen-erated by modest dues and raffles, we recognize how difficult times are for so many others less fortunate...we want to share.”

The Tarpon Coast Grady-White Club, sponsored by Ingman Marine of Port Charlotte, FL, celebrated its Fifth Anniversary in February with a dinner at the Isles Yacht Club. Tervis tumblers with commemorative anniversary artwork were presented. The club has instituted a new award, the Opossum, given in recognition of a memorable (embarassing?) event. The first winner was Jerry Mroczkowski for his “rac-coon/boatlift” episode (it’s a long story). Jerry will hold the award until someone else earns it!

Even a quick look at Grady-White Boat’s brand new Fisherman 230 will reveal that a lot of thought, experi-ence and customer collaboration has gone into the com-pany’s tenth current center console model. This 8'6" beam, 23-foot beauty is just chock-a-block with new fea-tures and reflects a masterful use of space to fulfill every enthusiast’s wish list. Highlights include an aft cockpit that is actually roomier than those of many 25-foot boats, a clever removable cooler that doubles as forward

seating, a stand-up head area in the console, and a hand-some, well-engineered optional T-top integrated into the console structure. The bow area features two 101-quart insulated fish boxes (port and starboard) that double as seating. An optional insert changes the whole bow to a roomy casting platform. “The new Fisherman 230 is designed to be powered by a single Yamaha four- stroke engine. Yamaha’s new 300 FS is a great match for this boat,” says Joey Weller,

Grady-White sales and marketing vice president. “The wide beam provides plenty of balance, and she sits in the water and trolls along steadily and beautifully. Combine this efficient power with Grady-White’s exclusive SeaV2® hull, and you really have a wonderful ride at almost any speed and in almost any condition. There are few, if any, center consoles in the 25-foot and under size range that can match the performance of the Fisherman 230.” Visit your Grady-White dealer for full specifications.

When it comes to do-it-yourself cus-tomizing ideas for a Grady, Cher and Dan Clark from Punta Gorda, FL, can almost corner the market! After last year’s Grady Fest, the Anchorline and the Customer Resources section of gradywhite.com featured a number of helpful hints that Fest attendees had shared with the factory team, including shade systems for aft cockpit sun pro-

tection, a bar sink-type strainer for shower and cockpit drains, and hang-ing partitioned shelving for even more cabin storage. This year, Cher brought out her sewing machine to tackle a pet peeve: how to keep the area around the head dry when showering aboard their 330. Her solution: shortening a stan-dard length shower curtain to about 70 inches.

This simple and inexpensive project involves a tension bar, fabric shower curtain, rod rings and a compression disk. Cher used the material cut from shortening the curtain to make a tie back. The Clarks stuck the disk with a hook on it to the side wall to hold the curtain back when not in use. Voila!

Dan and Cher Clark (left and middle) were pleased to have Grady-White President Kris Carroll, VP/Manufacturing Mark Doggett, and VP/Sales and Marketing Joey Weller aboard their Express 330, Lady Godiver, during Grady Fest 2010.

Upcoming Tournaments & EventsGrady-White dealers sponsor hundreds of events every year—seminars, tournaments, trips, cookouts, sightseeing voyages and much more. See www.gradywhite.com for events in your area.

My GrandkidsDear Anchorline:I’ve had the pleasure of owning two Grady-Whites from Schock Boats over the past 15 years, and currently have a Marlin 300. I’ve enjoyed tournaments and fishing with friends in southern California and Mexican waters. While still enjoying the fishing excursions, introducing my grandkids Jack and Lily Roman to the world of boating has been a real high. We take many short trips up and down the coast for breakfast or lunch, and Jack just caught his first fish. Look at the smile! I never want to hear that mackerel are good for nothing! Thanks, Grady, for the memories.

NICOLE AND CAL PELLY WERE MARRIED IN OCTOBER AT THE SENORA RESORT, RICHMOND, B.C., over the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. The Senora has a fleet of Grady-Whites, and that attracted the groom who grew up on boats and is a loyal Grady enthusiast. Nicole and her father arrived at the wedding ceremony in the Senora’s Journey 258. The bride wore her life vest under a fur shawl. The couple was married in the resort’s traditional First Nation longhouse, and then headed out on the water for a two-hour cruise aboard an Express 360 to celebrate with their closest friends. Cal hinted to his new father-in-law that the 360 would make a great wedding present! Best wishes and much happiness to the Pellys.

What an incredible event! Grady Fest 2010 was a marvelous opportu-nity to reconnect with many of our dear Grady friends, and make new ones as well. Our entire factory team left with a lot of great ideas on how we can continue to enhance your Grady-White experience. This

gathering reflected just how much boating is a part of your lives, and truly reminded us of the awesome responsibility we have to our cus-tomers to continue to deliver the best products with features that help enhance your lifestyle–like our newest models, for instance: the dual console Freedom 255 and the center console Fisherman 230. Ask your local Grady dealer about them. And as we head into the best of the boating season, check with your dealer for service to be sure your Grady-White is in top running order. Go out and enjoy those great Grady days!

Happy Boating!

Dear Grady-White Owner: Help for HaitiMercy and Sharing is a charitable organization “giving hope and dignity to the children of Haiti.” After January’s devastating earthquake, a Grady-White Canyon 336 assisted Mercy and Sharing by delivering medical supplies from Miami, as tender for the 165' motor yacht Major Wager owned by Tom Bedell of Spirit Lake, IA, and captained by Walter Rowan. With access to the main pier in Port au Prince being limited, the Grady offloaded the supplies and water directly to a beach near Arcahaie. Rowan later reported, “We are crashing along into a 10'-12' head sea with 35 knots of wind. Tough little boat.”
