GRAFFITI ART PROJECT Pontypridd - Summer 2018 Funding was requested for an art project to work with disengaged young people to improve an underpass at the entrance to Ynysangharad War Memorial Park. As well as covering up racist and other offensive graffiti with bright new artwork the project aimed to help young people: Have better relationships - with other park users and the community. Make more positive life choices - to recognise the impact of negative behaviour on others and improve social skills such as working as part of a team. Have improved mental and physical well-being - having fun and improved ability for self expression. The partners… South Wales Police, Cwm Taf Youth Offending Service’s Youth Engagement Project, the park’s project manager and ‘Friends of the park’ volunteers all worked together with a professional graffiti artist to design and paint the 37 metre wall. What happened… After an initial practice session on the ‘old’ wall ‘Friends of the park’ volunteers painted over the existing graffiti to create a blank canvas for the art work to follow, which was completed by 69 young people over an intense few weeks in time to be unveiled at the Emergency Services Open Day. If you think a local project might benefit from receiving a grant from the South Wales Police Youth Trust, please email [email protected] Charity No. 1133057 Feedback… “It was fun working with the police, we normally don’t talk to them except when we are in trouble, it was nice to speak to them and have a laugh” Male, 16 years “It is nice to see something positive for the young people to engage in” Community member

GRAFFITI ART PROJECTPontypridd - Summer 2018

Funding was requested for an art project to work with disengaged young people to improve an underpass at the entrance to Ynysangharad War Memorial Park. As well as covering up racist and other offensive graffiti with bright new artwork the project aimed to help young people:

Have better relationships - with other park users and the community.

Make more positive life choices - to recognise the impact of negative behaviour on others and improve social skills such as working as part of a team.

Have improved mental and physical well-being - having fun and improved ability for self expression.

The partners…South Wales Police, Cwm Taf Youth Offending Service’s Youth Engagement Project, the park’s project manager and ‘Friends of the park’ volunteers all worked together with a professional graffiti artist to design and paint the 37 metre wall.

What happened…After an initial practice session on the ‘old’ wall ‘Friends of the park’ volunteers painted over the existing graffiti to create a blank canvas for the art work to follow, which was completed by 69 young people over an intense few weeks in time to be unveiled at the Emergency Services Open Day.

PROSIECT CELF GRAFFITIPontypridd - Haf 2018

Gofynnwyd am arian ar gyfer prosiect celf i weithio gyda phobl ifanc sydd wedi ymddieithrio er mwyn gwella tanffordd wrth fynedfa Parc Coffa Ynysangharad. Yn ogystal â gorchuddio graffiti hiliol a graffiti sarhaus arall gyda gwaith celf newydd llachar, nod y prosiect oedd helpu pobl ifanc i wneud y canlynol:

Meithrin cydberthnasau gwell - gyda’r gymuned a phobl eraill sy’n defnyddio’r parc.

Gwneud penderfyniadau bywyd mwy cadarnhaol - adnabod effaith ymddygiad negatif ar eraill, a gwella sgiliau cymdeithasol, megis gweithio fel rhan o dîm.

Gwella lles meddyliol a chorfforol - cael hwyl a gallu mynegi eu hunain yn well.

Y partneriaid…Gwnaeth Heddlu De Cymru, Prosiect Ymgysylltu ag Ieuenctid Gwasanaeth Troseddau Ieuenctid Cwm Taf, rheolwr prosiect y parc a gwirfoddolwyr ‘Cyfeillion’ y parc gydweithio ag artist graffiti proffesiynol, i ddylunio a phaentio’r wal 37 metr.

Beth ddigwyddodd…Ar ôl sesiwn ymarfer gychwynnol ar yr ‘hen’ wal, paentiodd gwirfoddolwyr ‘Cyfeillion’ y parc dros y graffiti presennol i greu cynfas gwag ar gyfer y gwaith celf newydd. Cafodd hyn ei gwblhau gan 69 o bobl ifanc dros ychydig .

Adborth…

“Roedd yn hwyl gweithio gyda’r heddlu. Dydyn ni ddim

yn siarad â nhw fel arfer, heblaw pan rydyn ni mewn

trafferth. Braf oedd cael siarad a chwerthin â nhw”

Person ifanc, 16 oed

“Mae’n braf gweld rhywbeth

cadarnhaol i’r bobl ifanc

gymryd rhan ynddo”

Aelod o’r gymuned

Os ydych chi’n credu y gall prosiect lleol gael grant gan Ymddiriedolaeth Ieuenctid Heddlu De Cymru, anfonwch e-bost i [email protected]
