Wanting a long weekend get-a-way, we checked theinternet and found a B&B on a lake in Granbury, a townwe had never heard of. We fell in love with Granbury.We saw some apartments across the lake from the B&B,and took a tour of the Estates. The next day we putdown a deposit and moved in 2 months later. During the6 years we have been here, we have fallen in love withthe other residents and the very attentive staff. Theykeep us very active. It's a wonderful place we call home.

do” to the valley of “wonderful-things-to-do!” The Granbury Wine Walkhost a weekend of unique wine, foodand music events on June 4th and 5th.The Wine Walk allows patrons toexperience live music, plus wine andfood tastings at various locations,cooking demonstrations, and artexhibitions around a two block area ofGranbury’s Historic Square.

With the celebration for our nation’sbattle for independence approaching, Iam overwhelmed with concerns for ourfreedom. The national debt threatens theUSA as much as the terrorist who seekto destroy us with weapons. In the midstof all this, I’ve grown even morethankful for our founding fathers andthe wisdom that inspired them.

In 1795 as Massachusetts Governor,Samuel Adams gave a proclamation fora Day of PUBLIC FASTING,

HUMILIATION and PRAYER. Ishare part of that proclamation asreminder to all of us that our freedom iswhat makes America great.

That he would direct the administrationof our Federal and State Governments, sothat the lives, liberties and property of allthe Citizens, and the just rights of thePeople, as Men and Citizens, may beforever acknowledged, and at all timesdefended, by Constitutions, founded uponequal rights; and by good and wholesomeLaws, wisely and judiciouslyadministered and duly executed…

This year’s 4th of July Celebrationwinning theme, “Spirit of America: LetFreedom Ring,” echoes the values ofAmericans who possess the heart and soulof freedom. Through the current economicturmoil, elections and constant militarystruggles overseas, our thoughts go backto the hard-working men and women thathave kept this country strong.

A family tradition, Granbury’s 36thAnnual Old-Fashioned 4th of JulyCelebration offers a unique experience forthe first timer, as well as the dedicatedyearly visitor. It is sponsored by theGranbury Chamber of Commerce, underthe leadership of Mike Scott and staff.Each year folks converge on HistoricDowntown Granbury Friday, July 2ndthrough Sunday, July 4th for a fullschedule of events.

Arts and Crafts booths fill thecourthouse parking lot including youryearly favorites and offer unique, newcrafts. There’s face painting and a TopGun flight simulator for the kids and dads.While perusing the delights, food vendorsserve up festival favorites, like friedTwinkies, fresh squeezed lemonade andhand dipped corny dogs.

The Hometown Parade marches its waydown Pearl Street on Saturday, July 3rd at

10 a.m. From the starting point atGranbury High School, it travels downPearl Street, around the Square and backup Bridge Street for the final stretch. Over1,000 local citizens take part in the paradeas their way to salute our country.

The Tom Ward Decorated Bike Contestoffers the perfect pre-parade activity forthe kids. We encourage kids to bring theirdecorated bikes, trikes and wagons to theGISD Administration parking lot at 8 a.m.Saturday, July 3rd for a chance to winsavings bonds courtesy of SouthwestSecurities, FSB.

New to the schedule this year, the“Spirit of America: USO Big Band Dance”is set for the night of Saturday, July 3rdfrom 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the GranburyResort Conference Center. Tarleton’sLangdon Center Big Band creates a USOstyled show that promises to have youlindy hoppin’. Just imagine: you and yoursweetie looking keen in 1940’s dress,antique military vehicles and the sounds ofthe big band era giving you a trip back intime. Tickets are $15 each and will beavailable for purchase mid-May at theChamber office and Tarleton’s LangdonCenter.

Other events during the weekendinclude: D & D Rockin’ Rods Car Show,

O l d - F a s h i o n e dGames, toe-tappingshows at GranburyLive and GranburyOpera House. Anew event this year,Granbury Idol, akaraoke contestand anyone cansign up toparticipate. It willtake place Saturdayafternoon at

Granbury Square Plaza, sponsored by ThePirate AM radio station, 1420. Then onSunday morning StoneWater Churchoffers a special 4th of July worship serviceat City Beach.

The celebration concludes with a new—even more fantastic—fireworks show overLake Granbury at dusk on Sunday, July4th. To get ready for the show, head on upto the Ranch Rodeo at the ReunionGrounds to get a little rodeo action andalso to grab the best seats in the county forthe spectacular fireworks. This year’sextreme pyrotechnic fireworks offertwenty-percent more shots than last year.Enjoying fireworks over Lake Granbury isan amazing way to end a weekend ofpatriotic fun.
