Today as we meet in Tallahassee, home to the state capital, two state universities and other excellent colleges and
schools; I welcome you with great pleasure to the 122nd
Grand Lodge and 107th Grand Court Sessions. I pray that
your sessions will be filled with fidelity, harmony and love.
In my tenure as Grand Chancellor that began in May of 2003, I have had two primary goals. The first is to increase
our membership and the second is to increase the benefits that you receive as a member of the Order. We can
accomplish both of these goals by becoming more visible within the communities in which we live and work. Thus,
our theme for this Pythian Year: Growth through Community Based Programs.
Given that we are experiencing challenging economic times, it is my belief that all Pythians and Calanthes must
stand up and be counted as those who are willing to lend a helping hand in our communities through the State and
nation. I ask all members and their families join in our efforts to grow our Order so that all of us can benefit.
I would like to extend a special thanks to the local lodges, courts and committee members for their dedicated efforts
put forth to make these Grand Sessions a success; and for their continuous support and inspiration.

Representative Alan Williams was born and raised in the Tallahassee, FL. He graduated from Rickards High School in 1993 and earned his B.S. and M.B.A. degrees in Business Administration from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). His roots and dedication to his hometown run deep and wide. Representative Williams is the President & CEO of MW Land & Investments, LLC, a property management and business development firm, founded in 2006. In November 2008, Williams was elected to the Florida House of Representatives by the voters of District 8, encompassing parts of Leon and Gadsden Counties. Representative Williams serves on the Energy and Utilities Subcommittee, Government Appropriations Subcommittee, Higher Education Appropriations Subcommittee and State Affairs Committee. In the years immediately before his election, Williams was an Aide to Tallahassee Mayor John Marks, serving as liaison between the community and the Office of the Mayor. He advised the Mayor on appointments to all city advisory boards and represented the Mayor’s interests as a board member for the Tallahassee Visitors and Area Convention Bureau and the NASA Challenger Learning Center Board of Advisors. Living by the motto, “To whom much is given, much is required,” Representative Williams offers his time to several community charities and organizations. One of his favorites is “Voices to Action”, an organization of young professionals dedicated to improving the lives of foster care children in Tallahassee. Representative Williams also serves in numerous civic capacities. He is an active and enthusiastic member of Leadership Tallahassee, Opportunity Tallahassee, Leadership Florida, area Chambers of Commerce, United Way of the Big Bend Board of Directors and the United States Commission on Civil Right Advisory Committee, to name but a few. For his service he has been named Kappa Alpha Psi Brother of the Year, Leadership Tallahassee Board of Governors Chair (2008), Statewide Council of Advisors for Leadership Florida (2007), Ebony Magazine’s “Twenty Future Leaders under 30” (2003) and numerous others. Rep. Alan Williams is married to Attorney Opal McKinney-Williams, a FAMU graduate from Miami, Florida. They have been blessed with two children, Adrianna Williams and Alan-Louis Portlock Williams.
