I’m sure most everyone knows this, but our Council meetings will be on the first Tuesday of the month beginning this July 5th, 2011. Most officers’ meet-ings will be the day before, Mon-days. A couple of them will be on the Thursday before the council meeting due to holidays or schedule conflicts. Officer’s meetings are open to everyone. Feel free to come by. They will be held in JP II, Room 4, in the Vatican Room. I look forward to an exciting year with an exciting and dynamic council.

Mel Mattos,

Grand Knight

I’m always amazed at how fast time goes, especially these past four years. It seems like I was Recorder a short time ago, but here I am assuming the role of Grand Knight. Thank you, Brothers, for allow-ing me to serve in this ca-pacity. I will do the best I can. Each position is a learning experience, and any advice from Past Grand Knights will be gladly accepted. I was not able to attend the last meeting, but at that point, due to various rea-sons, we had vacancies in two of the Officers’ posi-tions. I was informed that those vacancies have now been filled, and I

commend all those in-volved with successfully filling those positions. I also commend the men who were willing to step into those positions. Help them out, Brothers. These men are taking on new responsibilities, and I’m sure they would ap-preciate any support from past Officers or others. With all of us working to-gether under God’s prompting, we can con-tinue to do the positive things we have been doing for the past 20 years. We need to stop trying to con-trol things and let Him guide us. He will let us know what is needed if we let Him.

Business Meeting TUESDAY, July 5 ,

7:00 PM Father O’Hare Hall

Don’t Come Alone – Bring A Fellow Knight!

Don’t forget to meet in the Church on every second Friday of the month for the 5:45 PM for the Knights’ Memorial Mass and a Ro-sary afterward in memory of the unborn. We should

also attend mass before each of our monthly meetings. It ends with just enough time to walk across the parking lot to the Hall before the business meet-ing. Will I see you there?

Many of you have heard that Fr. John Corapi has left the priesthood. It is discouraging for all of us when a good man goes off the rails. There is no con-ceivable reason why a priest should go back on his vows. He made those vows to Jesus Christ and to the Church at his ordi-nation. He was put into a difficult situation, forcing him to choose between his career as a public speaker and his vocation as a priest. The same thing

happened to St. Padre Pio, whom Fr. Corapi held up as a model. But while Padre Pio accepted the silence im-posed on him by the Church for three years, Fr. Corapi, lamentably, chose his speaking career over the priesthood. We must pray for him, and for all priests that abandon their vocations for whatever reason. God has spoken through Fr. Corapi over the years, and has done much good through him. We must pray for him, though, because in

the end, as Fr. Corapi him-self would often say, “in the end there is only heaven or hell.” Fr. Corapi’s first job is to save his own soul, and abandoning the priesthood puts his soul in grave dan-ger. Yours sincerely in Christ,

Fr. Joseph Illo

My Brother Knights Congratulations to our Council on our 20th an-niversary. We begin a new Columbian year this month, and I don't need to remind you that the success that we have had as a council has been do the fact that we are constantly refreshing our ranks with new and enthusiastic men, who are willing to do the work that we do.

We will make and exceed our membership quota this year IF you do YOUR part and invite the man sitting next to at mass to join us.

Dear Brothers, It occurs to me that the level of satisfaction that we get through participating in our Knights' activities is exponentially proportional to the level of involvement in our order. The following scripture re-flects on this idea as it re-lates to our fraternal or-ganization, especially since our principles are based on the teachings of Holy Mother Church. 2 Corinthians 9:6-11 Do not forget: thin sowing means thin reaping; the

more you sow, the more you reap. Each one should give what he has decided in his own mind, not grudgingly or because he is made to, for God loves a cheerful giver. And there is no limit to the blessings which God can send you and he will make sure that you will al-ways have all you need for yourselves in every possible circumstance, and still have something to spare for all sorts of good works. As scripture says: He was free in alms giving, and gave to the poor: his good deeds will

never be forgotten. The one who provides seed for the sower and bread for food will provide you with all the seed you want and make the harvest of your good deeds a larger one, and, made richer in every way, you will be able to do all the generous things which, through us, are the cause of thanksgiving to God. May God bless our country through the intercession of Blessed Mother!

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spell-ing had some room for im-provement and has ac-cepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English". In the first year, "s" will re-place the soft "c".. Sertainly, this will make the sivil ser-

vants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up kon-fusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f".. This will make words like foto-graf 20% shorter. In the 3rd year, publik aksep-tanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters

which have al-ways ben a de-terent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the ho-ribl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away. By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as re-plasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v". During ze fifz yer, ze une-sesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensibl riten styl.

The year was 1962 and, in spite of all my efforts, I could not find the job I needed. I was working at Whitehead Metals, a large aluminum wholesale firm. It was a wonderful place to work at – interesting work in the credit department with great co-workers. I re-member wishing my stay there was permanent. Then, one day my dream came true – well almost. The de-partment head called me to his office and told me they wanted to hire me perma-nently!

The dream ended when he offered me $65 a week. I had to turn him down be-cause I wanted $75 a week. So, I remained a temporary worker and someone else was hired to fill the $65 spot. It saddened me to lose something I could have had but instead acted on my principles. Then, about two weeks later, the walls came tumbling down! It was Black Friday, so to speak. White-head Metals was sold to a big St. Louis firm and the New York paradise of an of-fice was to be closed. All new

and temporary workers were the first to follow the exit sign. This incident took place nearly 50 years ago, but I re-call it as if it was yesterday. If I had taken the job at $65 or had I been given the $75 I wanted, I’d have been out of a job one way or the other. I did go on to better things, but this experience shows that God was looking out for me. Had I gotten the job at $75, I soon would be in for a big disappointment. I was

One of our newest Knights is not only a new Knight, he is a new Catholic. Tyson Mur-phy, who made his First De-gree at the June meeting, became a new Catholic at the Easter Vigil. For those of you that were not at the Easter Vigil, it was readily apparent how excited Tyson was about becoming Catho-lic. First, at the lighting of the Paschal fire, which is used to light all of the can-dles used in the procession in the church (lighting the way to Christ) he became so transfixed on the flame that his friend, Adam Harker, who also became a Knight at the June meeting, wondered if something was wrong with him. When asked after-wards, his response was that he could “see the Holy Spirit,” like the Apostles at Pentecost. His excitement did not end there, however. Each of the soon to be bap-tized were asked by Father Joseph if they desired to re-ceive baptism into the faith. In spite of the microphone

placed in front of them, it was difficult to hear the re-sponse of the majority. There was no doubt in Ty-son’s response. Even with-out the microphone, the walls would have reverber-ated with his resounding, “I DO!!!!!!” Tyson is a truly remarkable young man who is excited about his new faith as a Catholic. It is refreshing to see someone so “on fire,” for Christ. He spends many of his nights, “evangelizing pa-gans,” and talking about and defending our faith. Did you know that Denny’s at Five Points has a bible? Ty-son found out that it does when asked about God’s love for all while “hanging out” one evening. His love of Christ and our faith has converted at least one for-mer, self-proclaimed “pagan” who can be seen at times in mass. Due to the Holy Spirit at work in him, she is con-sidering either Catholicism or Orthodoxy.

Tyson’s excitement for being a Knight was almost as much as his excitement about be-coming Catholic. “I am will-ing to sign the application for the Knights as soon as I come out of the water,” he was heard to exclaim before his baptism. If you were there in June and paying close attention, you could see the same excitement in Ty-son’s eyes as he completed his 1st Degree. He has al-ready asked what he can do to help in any and all Knight events and is preparing for his 2nd and 3rd degrees in July. I invite you all, Brothers, to extend a warm welcome to Tyson at the July meeting or whenever you see him at mass. He’ll be the one with a big smile on his face. Pray for him as well, as he is one of the WYD pilgrims going to see the pope in August!

“…We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father. Through him all things were made.” Ni-cene Creed – circa 381 AD My last two letters were about God the Father, next the Nicene Creed turns our attention to Jesus; God the Son. I spoke to a person once who didn’t believe that Jesus was God incarnate, only a really enlightened man. This person didn’t read the bible or the cate-chism and didn’t attend mass regularly. As you might expect, that person’s idea of Catholicism was all over the map. If having fragile or unreliable faith is what you want then don’t read the bible or the cate-

chism and don’t go mass or avail yourself of the sacra-ments. But we do attend mass and every Sunday we recite this passage from the Nicene Creed which reminds us that Jesus is; “the only Son of God, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten not made, one in being with the Father.” Jesus was not cre-ated as the creed reminds us He was “begotten, not made,” and He is “one in being with the Father.” Wow, if I lis-tened to the words of the creed how could I question the deity of Jesus? Someone who isn’t a believer or doesn’t share our faith might ask; what is a creed and why is it important? Briefly, Merriam-webster.com defines it this way: 1.A brief authoritative for-mula of religious belief.

A set of fundamental be-liefs; also: a guiding principle. So the creed is a short out-line of our fundamental be-liefs. I remember many years ago a young lady told me that an evangelical Christian had cornered her about what Catholics believe, so, flus-tered and not knowing how to respond, she recited the Ni-cene Creed. The evangelical Christian was able to agree with all but one line (…one, holy, Catholic and apostolic.) and she answered the ques-tion. Bravo. Does all this really matter? Yes, it does, but to find out why, you need to visit the website, kofc10644.org.
