Meeting called to order at 4:15 p.m., Misty McClure-Anderson in the chair.

C. Review and Approval of Agenda to include additions, deletions, or corrections. Motion by Trustee James, seconded by Trustee Bristol to approve the agenda as

presented. Motion carries 6-0.

D. Open Comments None at this time.

E. Special Order of Business (New Business) Swearing in of Newly Elected Trustees. Honorable Judge Becker and Judge

Elmore swore in Trustees Bruinsma, Brame & Koetje.

2017-18 Election of Board Officers.Motion by Trustee Bailey, seconded by Trustee Bristol to nominate Trustee Koejte as Chair. Motion carries 6-0.Motion by Trustee Stewart, seconded by Trustee Bruinsma to nominate Trustee Bailey as Vice Chair. Motion carries 6-0.Motion by Trustee Bailey, seconded by Trustee Brame to nominate Trustee Stewart as Treasurer. Motion carries 6-0.Motion by Trustee Brame, seconded by Trustee Bailey to nominate Trustee Bristol as Secretary. Motion carries 6-0.Motion by Trustee Bruinsma, seconded by Trustee Bristol to nominate Misty McClure-Anderson as Assistant Secretary. Motion carries 6-0.

Motion made by Trustee Bristol, seconded by Trustee Bailey to approve the Public Safety Committee as presented. Motion carries 6-0.

II. MONITORING REPORTSF. Report (s)

Transfer Pathway Monitoring Report –presented by Mike Vargo, Jennifer Batten, Lynnae Selburg and Erin Busscher.

Finance Update, presented by Lisa Freiburger.

III.UPDATESG. Student Report – Student Alliance update was presented by Jose Garcia. Jose invited

the Board to the Molly Maczka dedication on the 9th of February in Student Life, as the Hub area will be renamed the Molly Maczka Hub.

H. Foundation Update – presented by Kathy Mullins.

I. Board Chair Report – Chairperson Koetje thanked Trustee Bleke for his leadership and vision he has provided the board over the last several years.

J. President’s Update – Dr. Ender invited everyone to the Phyllis Fratzke Early Childhood Learning Laboratory Open House on Saturday, January 21st.

K. Faculty Association Update – None at this time.

IV. COMMUNITY CONNECTIONSL. Communications to the Board – Thank You from Lyle Morris’s Family.

Minutes from December 12, 2016 Board Meeting Grants Received by GRCC December 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016.

Grants Received by GRCC

GRCC’s Laboratory Preschool was awarded a continuation grant of $428,800 by the Michigan Department of Education to support the Great Start Readiness Program, which offers services to eligible at-risk 4 year-old students in Kent County. This program is a partnership with Grand Rapids Public Schools and the Kent ISD.

GRCC’s Counseling and Career Center was selected to participate in the Michigan cohort of the JED Campus initiative. JED Campus is a nationwide initiative of the JED Foundation and is designed to guide schools through a collaborative process of comprehensive systems, program and policy development with customized support to build upon existing student mental health, substance abuse and suicide prevention efforts. Program sponsors including the Ethel and James Flinn Foundation and the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan provided a grant of $6,000 to cover the cost of GRCC’s participation in the program.

O. DDA Expansion – Lisa Freiburger Motion made by Trustee Bailey, seconded by Trustee Bruinsma to approve opting into the DDA Expansion as presented. Motion carries 6-0.

VI. FINAL BOARD COMMENTS

Trustee Bristol, welcomed the new trustees and also wished those employees that were retiring well and welcomed new employees. She went on to say how thrilled she was with opening day for winter semester, thanking Dr. Ender for outlining his achievements throughout his time at the institution and thanked him for all his work.

Trustee Stewart, said once again he was amazed with the work that Mike Vargo and others presented. He welcomed the new trustees and the talent and skills they will be bringing to the institution. Trustee Stewart also thanked Chairperson Koetje for is leadership that he will bring to the board in his new role as chair.

Trustee Brame, thanked his sister and her family for attending the entire meeting and the oppourunity to serve on the board.

Trustee Bruinsma, thanked Chairperson Koetje for accepting the chair position and looks forward to working with the board and institution.

Trustee Bailey, thanked Mike Vargo, Jennifer, Batten, Lynnae Selburg and Erin Busscher for their report and work. She went on to say she looks forward to working with the new trustees.
