The Grande Ronde Experience e Grande Ronde is a 182-mile river that originates in the Blue Mountains in Oregon’s Wallowa–Whitman Na- tional Forest. It flows in a north to south direction running through the town of La Grande and onto Elgin. e next stretch goes through federally protected land beginning at the mouth of the Wallowa River near Minam and ending near the community of Troy. It then flows into Washington for roughly 40 miles in a serpentine direction into the Snake River’s Hells Canyon on the Idaho and Washington border. e Grande Ronde is a genuinely gorgeous river in the American West with a designation of “Wild and Scenic” (from the confluence of the Wallowa to the Oregon/Wash- ington Border). It provides winter habitat for bighorn sheep, elk, mule deer, and bald eagles. You will also have opportu- nities to see mountain goats, black bears, species of water- fowl, as well as river otters. The Fishing “e Ronde” is considered one of the most excellent Sum- mer Run Steelhead rivers in the West with fish averaging 7 to 10lbs, with larger fish not uncommon. It’s known for its surface-oriented steelhead that will explode on a skated dry fly! Pursuing steelhead on the fly can be very challeng- ing, and patience is a must. We will specialize in swinging flies with spey and switch rods as well as indicator fishing. Two-handed spey casting experience is recommended, but not required. We can pre-arrange two-handed casting lessons for additional cost before your float trip. Outside of the target species of steelhead, you may also catch healthy resident rainbows as well as the occasional bull trout. The Trip Our primary launch site is located on state lands at the confluence of the Minam and Wallowa River. is is where we will meet to start the float. You will enjoy roughly 35 to 40 miles over four days & three nights or five days & four nights. On the river, we will cover between 6 and 10 miles per day depending on the length of your trip. Aſter each day of fishing, we will arrive to a set up “primitive” campsite along the river. All meals will be pre-arranged to your pref- erences, so there are no surprises. We have a “leave no trace policy” on these trips to ensure the river canyon stays clean for generations to come! Layover option –e layover option allows you to spend an optional day wading the river. Many of the campsites have runs right out your canvas wall tent, so you could easi- ly spend the day chasing steelhead. Just let us know if this is something you would be interested in doing. • Enjoy stunning scenery, lots of wildlife, great campsites, and most importantly fantastic steelhead fishing! • Immerse yourself in a free-flowing river surrounded by 3000 to 4000 ſt basalt cliffs in an untouched forested vista. • One of the few multiday “wild and scenic” steelhead trips in the American West.
