Grants for Foodbanks, grassroot groups and faith based social action in Cornwall.

26th February 2021 We have created this list of possible funding that might be suitable for some of our wonderful Foodbanks, grassroot groups and Faith based social action projects in Cornwall.

Covid-19 & Emergency Funding

Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation:

In response to Covid-19, the Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation has temporarily changed its priorities.

We will ONLY be accepting applications for the costs associated with the delivery of projects that are: • Either Foodbanks or Crisis Funds focused on the relief of poverty caused by the Covid-19 situation • Run by registered charities in England, Wales, the Isle of Man and the Republic of Ireland • Entirely for beneficiaries in the above four jurisdictions.

The Alpkit Foundation

The Alpkit Foundation are now prioritising their funds to support projects that demonstrate an immediate impact on those affected by the Covid-19 virus crisis Over £200,000 has been awarded to more than 600 incredible projects so far, with a number of community food schemes supported. This grant is simple to apply for.

Examples include:

Being active in your local community to help elderly or vulnerable people.

Minimising the impact of self-isolation for those in quarantine and need access to food, medicines or social care.

Supporting foodbanks and increasing the number of meals on wheels deliveries to support the elderly.

Supporting those who are homeless or in temporary accommodation.

Bringing adventure indoors.

Projects that encourage responsible and Covid-19 safe outdoor activity.

The Angling Trust Get Fishing Fund

Introduced as a result of more people taking up fishing during COVID-19, the £100,000 Get Fishing Fund offers grants from £500 to £5,000 for charities, schools, local authorities, angling clubs and fisheries in England for activities and events that will encourage more people to start and continue fishing. Please note that funded activities must take place on freshwater fisheries where angling requires a fishing licence.

The following grant funding is available:

1. Smaller Grants, with no matched funding requirement, up to £500 for:

o Equipment to help run events, this includes any additional equipment to ensure events are COVID-19 safe (for example, PPE).

o Event resources, and o Fishing equipment, terminal tackle and bait.

2. Larger Grants (where matched is encouraged – see below) up to £5,000 for:

o Basic equipment storage facilities (for example, a lock up container or shed). o Coaching fees. o Contribution towards venue hire. o Equipment to help run events, this includes any additional equipment to ensure events are COVID-19 safe (for example, PPE). o Event resources, such as a gazebo. o Fishing equipment, terminal tackle and bait, and o Promotional materials.

The Batchworth Trust

Grants of between £5,000 and £45,000 for UK registered charities working in the UK and overseas for a wide range of charitable causes, but in particular for charities working in the areas of medical research, social welfare and support for young people.

The Trust prioritises small charities with innovative projects or that are addressing a critical issue. Please note that the Trust does not maintain a website. Further information is, however, available on the Charity Commission website.

Burg-Wächter Secure Communities Scheme

Burg-Wächter Secure Communities Scheme offers free security kits, up to a value of £150, for properties, equipment, or outdoor areas that are used in service of the community and need extra security at this time. The scheme prioritises grassroots organisations who have limited funds and the most difficulty in meeting extra security costs due to the current situation. Any property, equipment or area that is the responsibility of the local community is relevant, including allotments, sports clubs, village halls, common land or community centres. That means any charity, social enterprise, not for profit, or community venture can apply so long as the security kits will be used locally.

Cornwall Community Foundation (CCF): One Programme

CCF have moved their regular funds for community groups and charities based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly into one main programme, ‘One Programme’.

You can now apply to the One Cornwall programme for grants for community groups and charities based in Cornwall and the Isles Of Scilly. CCF have funding available for emergency and crisis support and for recovery from the effects of the pandemic. CCF administer several area funds covering most of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly and we have funding available for crime prevention, to improve the natural environment, to improve physical health and wellbeing and to support young people, elderly people and people with a disability.

Cornwall Community Foundation (CCF) Headstart Kernow Young Peoples Mental Wellbeing Legacy Fund

Providing grants to support children and young people aged 10 -16 with their emotional health and mental wellbeing. Open to local community groups, projects and individuals via sponsor agencies to promote resilience and the emotional health and mental wellbeing. (We’ve listed this also in our separate hardship grants for individuals list). But projects can apply for up to £6,000 per group activitiy. An application should make clear how the proposal is linked to at least one of the 5 Ways to Wellbeing:

Give (give to others)

Take Notice (stop and take notice). *Deadline: 02/03/2021. The panel will be reviewing applications on the 13th April 2021

Cornwall Council Community Chest Crisis Scheme

Cornwall Council Community Chest Crisis Scheme gives grants of up to £1,000 to smaller un-constituted groups who are supporting local communities through the coronavirus crisis. Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise groups that are formally constituted should first apply to access Cornwall Community Foundation’s Emergency Fund.

The programme operates across all of Cornwall's 19 Community Network areas, and groups can apply for grants through individual Cornwall councillors.

To apply, simply email your Community Link Officer (CLO) with brief details of your group and the work you’re doing. In the email also copy in [email protected].

The CLO will then contact the relevant Cornwall Councillors to see if they are willing to support your project in principle. Details of the 19 CLOs are on the Community Network Map that can be accessed through the link above.

Coastline Housing is match funding the scheme in the three, main community network areas in which it operates:

Camborne, Pool, Illogan and Redruth;

Helston and South Kerrier;

and parts of Falmouth and Penryn.  This means that community groups in those areas bidding successfully for Community Chest funding would see their cash injection go up by half through the Coastline Housings contribution.

The Enterprise Development Programme Mental Health Grants

Grants up to £30,000 and additional business support for charities and social enterprises working in the mental health sector in England to develop new or grow their existing enterprise.The following grant and business support packages are available to help organisations develop and grow their services:

o Grants of up to £30,000 to research or test out new ideas, to launch new enterprises or grow existing ones (grants are likely to be conditional on evidence of growing income sources). o Access to a team of pro bono legal experts who can offer guidance on the legal considerations of trading. o Extensive peer-learning and networking opportunities, and o Invitations to conferences on enterprise development and social investment within the wider charitable sector.

*Eligible applicants must have an annual revenue of between £50,000 and £1.5 million. Deadline for Expressions of Interest is Friday 19 March 2021.

February Foundation

Grants averaging £8,700 to UK registered charities for a wide range of charitable causes, in particular charities working with people in need in the areas of the arts, culture, disability, education, end-of-life care, financial hardship, healthcare and patient support, and heritage.

The Fitton Trust

Micro-grants usually between £150 and £350 for a wide range of charitable causes provided by registered charities in England, Scotland and Wales. Foyle Foundation Small Grants Scheme

The Foyle Foundation has re-opened its Small Grants Scheme to support smaller, grass-roots and local charities across the UK during the Covid-19 crisis.

Organisations which are currently delivering services to the young, vulnerable, elderly, disadvantaged or the general community either directly or through online support can apply for grants of between £1,000 and £10,000.

Funding can be used to cover core costs or essential equipment, to enable ongoing service provision, homeworking, or delivery of online digital services for charities with a turnover of less than £150,000 per annum that can show financial stability and a clear need for their services. Applications can be submitted at any time.

The Leigh Trust

Small grants averaging just over £3,000 for registered charities in England and Wales that are working in the areas of:

o Criminal justice. o Drug and alcohol rehabilitation. o Racial equality and education, and o Support for asylum seekers.

Please note that the Trust does not maintain a website. Requests for grant support must be concise and ideally summarised on a single side of A4 and should include the most recent audited accounts, a registered charity number and - most importantly - a cash flow statement for the next 12 months. All applications should also include a stamped self-addressed envelope.

Music for All – Community Project Grants

Music for All offers grants of up to £2,500 for community groups and schools in the UK to develop community music initiatives. In general, community grants are provided towards the purchase of instruments, associated equipment or for teaching costs.

Newby Trust Covid-19 Fund

The Newby Trust has designated a Special Fund for smaller charities to provide support during the COVID-19 pandemic. Priority will be given to existing and recent grant recipients and to charities working in the areas of homelessness, food supplies, domestic violence, mental health, young people and older people. Grants of up to £5,000 may be made to cover core costs or to fund operational changes made in response to the crisis.

Ocean Housing: Hardship Fund

Ocean Housings hardship fund supports local community groups, charities, and other voluntary sector organisations which are serving our local communities, and are experiencing unprecedented demand for services at this time. If you are a voluntary organisation, please download and complete the application form from their website using the link above and email it to [email protected]

The Ocean Housing hardship fund also provides direct support to people who are tenants of Ocean Housing (see separate entry under grants for individuals) where their needs cannot easily, or immediately, be met and where financial support is required in areas including helping tenants with bills, fuel costs, and supermarket shopping vouchers, where food banks are unable to assist.

Paul Hamlyn Foundation - Covid 19 Support

Paul Hamlyn Foundation have reopened applications to their Covid-19 support fund as of the 30th of October 2020. They have a £20 million emergency fund, and have already made over 350 grants totalling £11 million. They are still prioritising organisations that they have an existing funding relationship with and state that ‘Awards through the Emergency Fund are continuing. This is not an open application fund and you will need a PHF grants manager to support your case.’ See their website for more details

Paul Hamlyn Foundation Youth Fund

https://www.phf.org.uk/funds/youth-fund/ The Youth Fund supports organisations whose main purpose is working with and for young people (aged 14-25) who face complex transitions to adulthood.

Through the Covid-19 crisis we have been made increasingly aware that inequality plays out in ways that connect and intersect across race, gender, class, disability and other characteristics. The pandemic is having a disproportionate impact on young people.

The Youth Fund will support:

Core operating costs (organisations can request up to £90,000, spread over three years (max £30,000 per year).

The Volant Trust: COVID-19 Response Fund

The Volant Trust accepts applications from registered charities, community interest companies, community organisations and social enterprises in the UK and internationally that demonstrate a strong focus on alleviating social deprivation and helping vulnerable groups who have been particularly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Funding is available for project and administrative costs although applications for medical equipment and the production or distribution of PPE will also be considered.

* To receive a decision by October 2021 applications must be submitted between 1st January and 31st July 2021.

The Women Thrive Fund

A new grant programme with funding provided from the Tampon Tax Fund, offering grants up to £40,000 for grassroots and specialist women’s and girls’ organisations in the UK that are enabling women and girls to improve their mental health and wellbeing, and/or improve their financial resilience.

Applicants must be working one of the following priority areas:

o Drug and alcohol services. o Education and employment activity. o Engaging excluded and vulnerable women and girls through sport. o LGBTQI-specific services. o Services for Black and minoritised women and girls. o Work to address period poverty. o Work to address women’s and girls’ loneliness.

Funders Sensitive to Faith Based Projects AllChurches Trust Ltd

AllChurches Trust Ltd supports projects run by churches of many denominations and Christian organisations. Their primary charitable objective is to promote the Christian faith or any other charitable purpose.

The Trust focuses on building communities, helping people to flourish, and growing churches.

Their grants normally fund capital projects and equipment and not salaries or running costs. They only fund projects in the UK and Ireland. They give grants to churches of many denominations, so long as they are members of Churches Together in England (CTE), Action of Churches Together in Scotland (ACTS), Churches Together in Wales (Cytun), the Irish Council of Churches or a local ‘churches together’ group. All applicants, including education establishments, need to be a UK registered charity, church or have “exempt” status.

The Alliance Family Foundation

Grants for UK registered charities for a wide range of charitable causes, with a preference for projects that focus on education, the relief of poverty and religious activities in England, Wales, Israel and the USA.

Anchor Foundation

The Anchor Foundation offers grants for Christian charities who are working to address social exclusion with a particular interest in charities working within healing and the arts. The Foundation only supports registered charities and offers grants in the range of £500 to £10,000. The Anchor Foundation cannot enter into correspondence about individual applications or pre-application support.

The Andrew Anderson Trust

Provide small grants of £1,000 or less for UK registered charities working in the areas of religious activities, education and training, health and sickness, and overseas aid. The Trust’s main area of grant support is evangelical organisations and churches. Individuals are also regularly grant aided.

The Archer Trust provides funding for small UK charities who support needy or deserving people including those with physical or mental disabilities and the disadvantaged. Grants vary from £250 to £3,000. They prioritise organisations working in areas of high unemployment/deprivation and favour charities who make good use of volunteers. Trustees meet twice a year.

The Bishop Radford Trust

The Bishop Radford Trust is a charity which supports Christian ministry in the UK and internationally. They offer grants of up to £5,000 for UK registered charities to support the work of the Christian church in the UK and internationally. Larger grants of £15,000 are available for organisations that have already received a grant from the trust. They fund those who aim to promote the work of the Christian church following the principles of the Church of England in undertaking church related projects promoting charitable purposes, the education of priests, future priests and church workers, and to support Church Ministry.

Childs Charitable Trust

The Childs Charitable Trust is a grant-making trust, supporting Christian UK registered charities and organisations working both in the UK and overseas.

Projects will be considered that fall into the following categories:

Youth - the trust looks to support projects working in schools and with vulnerable and disengaged young people in the UK. Supported activities may include RE Lessons; School Assemblies; Lunchtime/After school clubs; Evangelism; Personal Development Programmes; Homelessness Prevention.

Outreach - the trust works to share the gospel of Christ by supporting all aspects of Christian outreach both in the UK and overseas and can fund, for example, Church Plants; Overseas Mission; Training in Evangelism; Chaplaincy.

Society - the trust believes people of faith bring a valuable contribution to social action and justice and support initiatives that have a positive impact in their society. Grants could support, for example: Counselling; night shelters; alcohol/drug rehabilitation; homelessness; or prison/ex-offenders work.

Education - the trust supports initiatives involved in all areas of Christian education including Bible Translation; Media Initiatives; Bible Colleges; Literature; Apologetics.

The trustees can’t guarantee to fund all applicants, but will give prayerful consideration to every request they receive and aim to meet monthly to discuss applications.

The Elmgrant Trust:

The Elmgrant Trust awards small grants to voluntary and community organisations in the South West of England for projects that improve the lives of local people, particularly through education, the arts and social sciences.

Grant awards can cover core running costs or project costs of small, established organisations. Although the Trust will fund across the South West, it favours projects in Devon and Cornwall.

The Equitable Charity Trust

Grants for registered charities in England and Wales working in the areas of:

o Relieve poverty. o Support educational establishments. o Support religious education, and o General charitable purposes.

The Trust does not maintain a website, although further information is available on the Charity Commission website.

The Trust states that it considers all grant applications and decides on the level of grant to be made depending on the cause and the level of reserves.

Girdlers Company Charitable Trust

Makes donations and grants on behalf of the Girdlers’ Company to registered and exempt charities, Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIOs) and Community and Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs). Subject to available funds, the maximum grant is £10,000. The average grant awarded is £4,250. Their website includes an eligibility quiz.

The funds priorities:

The improvement in people's employability;

An increase in the support offered to carers;

The improvement in people's overall mental health;

The improvement in people's literacy;

The reduction in rate of prisoner reoffending.

The Headley Trust

Operated by The Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts, the Headley Trust funds projects in the areas of arts and heritage in the UK. They fund charities working in the areas of the arts, heritage, education, health, social welfare, cathedrals and major churches, parish churches, and arts. They prefer to fund schemes that can be successfully replicated or become self-sustaining

The Jerusalem Trust

This scheme makes grants available for voluntary and community organisations undertaking projects for the promotion of the Christian faith and Christian education in the UK. In particular, the scheme wishes to support projects with the following themes: evangelism, Christian education, Christian media, and Christian art.

The John James Charitable Trust

Grants are available to provide support for individuals and organisations with a Christian focus, as well as funding for ministry training. The Trust’s Charitable Objects are to promote

education in the Christian faith amongst children and young people and to support people in training for Christian ministry. The average grant is £2000.

The Joseph Rank Trust

An independent Christian grant-maker working with all Christian denominations in the UK. The principal object of the Trust is "to advance the Christian Faith" - to further the Kingdom of God. The Trustees have identified two main areas of interest - projects that demonstrate a Christian approach to the practical, educational and spiritual needs of people of all ages; and the adaptation of Church properties with a view to providing improved facilities for use by the church and its work in the community in which it is based.

Laing Family Trusts

The Laing Family Trusts are a group of four grant-making trusts with a Christian foundation - the Beatrice Laing Trust, the Kirby Laing Foundation, the Martin Laing Foundation and the Maurice & Hilda Laing Charitable Trust. The Trusts seek to support projects which promote Christian faith and values, express Christian faith through practical action to care for those in need and encourage young people to realise their potential. The Trusts’ website provides information about the priority areas of giving of each of the four Trusts and the application process.

Marsh Christian Trust

The Trust focuses on providing funding which could help small charities pay for various running costs, such as volunteer expenses, training days, equipment maintenance and other core outgoings. The application requirements are a cover letter and a copy of the most recent Annual Report and Accounts. Grants are unrestricted and range from £300-£2,000.

National Churches Trust

The National Churches Trust supports a wide variety of projects at churches, chapels and meeting houses through their grant programmes. Their grants are available to any Christian place of worship in the UK that is open for regular worship. The Big Give Green Match Fund, a match funding campaign for UK charities working on environmental issues as part of their core mission. Match funding of either £2,500, £10,000 or £25,000 is available.

Carers Groups Grant

A grant to fund unpaid, informal carers’ groups to give their members opportunities to ‘switch off’ from their caring responsibilities by taking part in group activities and events that promote their health and wellbeing. Groups can apply for up to £1000 per application.

Sea-Changers Coastal Fountain Fund

Environmental charity Sea-Changers is currently offering grants of up to £2,000 for UK not-for-profit organisations to install a water bottle refill station in a busy or environmentally important coastal location. The fund is aimed at reducing marine litter, particularly non-reusable plastic drink bottles, through the provision of well-located coastal water fountains.

Applications are invited from all types of UK not-for-profit organisations. Applicants should already have permission in place for the water fountain’s placement from the landowner and to have explored issues that relate to the ongoing maintenance of the fountain and water testing (for example, with the local water company).

Projects will be assessed against the following criteria:

o Need and impact – fountains should be placed in areas which have significant public use/a lot of littering and/or are of particular environmental importance or status. o Sustainability. o Value for money, and o Viability to be operational within 2021.

Please note that (a) there is a matched funding requirement for this programme. Applicants are expected to have secured contributions from other sources; and (b) grants cannot cover the costs of installation or ongoing maintenance.

The Tudor Trust

Tudor makes grants to smaller community-led groups that support people at the margins of society. Tudor operates a two-stage application process, so they ask all applicants to complete a brief first stage proposal.

They are keen to work with organisations that have a real understanding of the challenges facing the communities they support, and a clear sense of the difference they seek to make through their work. They are particularly interested in supporting work that develops and promotes the social connections and relationships which make such an important contribution to the well-being and quality of life of individuals, and which strengthens communities.

There is no maximum or minimum grant, though in practice it is unusual for them to make a grant of less than £10,000.

The Truemark Trust

Grants between £1,000 and £5.000 for small local UK charities working to address social distress and disadvantage, with a preference for innovative neighbourhood-based community projects and unpopular causes. The Trust prefers to invest in innovative community-focused projects that help relieve social distress, deprivation and disadvantage. Unpopular causes are also supported. A wide range of organisations are provided with grant support, including youth groups, hospices, women’s groups, advice centres and churches.

The Trust does not maintain a website. Further information is available on the Charity Commission website. Applications may be made at any time in writing. The Trust meets every three months to review applications.

The Trusthouse Charitable Foundation

The Trusthouse charitable foundations are a grant making foundation giving grants to small and medium sized organisations in the UK.. Both their Small Grants and Major Grants are rolling programmes with no application deadline.

Grants are available for general costs, including core costs, salaries, projects costs, and capital expenditure on buildings or essential equipment. Grants are available to fund arts, community support, education and heritage projects in areas of extreme urban deprivation or remote, socio-economically deprived rural areas.

The project geographic area postcode must fall within the following on the Indices of Multiple Deprivation:

The Tweed Family Charitable Trust

The Foundation is looking to fund one or two projects each year delivered by registered charities in England and Wales. A grant of up to £10,000 is available.

The Foundation will give greater consideration towards applications that support disadvantaged young people in their teenage years.The Foundation is seeking to support a limited number of community and educational projects that inspire young people to develop the social and practical that will enable them to achieve their full potential. The Foundation lists mentoring, educational and community activities as areas it is particularly interested in supporting. Opportunities or activities can be educational or vocational, may include core costs, and should provide experiences with a lasting impact that would otherwise be inaccessible to the young people concerned.

The Foundation will send a full application form to applicants it may be interested in funding.

The Wakeham Trust
