Grapevine Then Jesus poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciplesfeet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around him.John 13:5 When Jesus washed his disciplesfeet, he was modeling Christian love. We offer humble service to one another. But it was also an ordinary gesture of hospitality. Thats been one of our guiding values as the Safe Gathering Team has worked through the details of what it will look like to gather on campus again. We want to offer gracious Christian hospitality to those who feel safe to be together and to those who choose to continue to participate from home. In the month of July, well be trying an experiment. The moderators of our committees, bible studies and small groups have been trained in our new safety protocols. Theyll be ready to offer warm hospitality as they convene their meetings. For some, that will mean that everyone will continue to participate by Zoom. For others, the group will be a mix of in person and electronic participation. Our congregational survey revealed that more than 50% of us dont yet feel comfortable gathering in person. Those who gather on campus will wear masks and practice careful physical distancing. Surfaces will be sanitized before and after each meeting. While these are new practices, we see them as an extension of the same warm hospitality we offer people when they come into our homes. Its a way of loving one another. An important part of hospitality is making sure everyone is included. That s why were committed to providing online options for each of our church activities as we go forward. We arent really church if we leave some people out. We also commit to practices that protect the most vulnerable among us. That s why we will be so diligent about observing our safety protocols when we are together. Our Safe Gathering Team will be watching and learning over this next month. What we learn will inform our decisions as we look to the time when we can gather for worship again. Hospitality. Loving one another. Caring for the most vulnerable. These are some of the most basic ways was can practice our Christian faith. Im confident we will discover how to do this with grace and joy. “Then Jesus poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around him.”

John 13:5 When Jesus washed his disciples’ feet, he was modeling Christian love. We offer humble service to one another. But it was also an ordinary gesture of hospitality. That’s been one of our guiding values as the Safe Gathering Team has worked through the details of what it will look like to gather on campus again. We want to offer gracious Christian hospitality to those who feel safe to be together and to those who choose to continue to participate from home. In the month of July, we’ll be trying an experiment. The moderators of our committees, bible studies and small groups have been trained in our new safety protocols. They’ll be ready to offer warm hospitality as they convene their meetings. For some, that will mean that everyone will continue to participate by Zoom. For others, the group will be a mix of in person and electronic participation. Our congregational survey revealed that more than 50% of us don’t yet feel comfortable gathering in person. Many thanks to all who joined in this year’s World Vision 6K Walk for Clean Water with over 21,800 people worldwide! We walked around alpine lakes, along wild rivers and horse trails to provide clean water so others won’t have to any more. Common illnesses from the lack of a clean water source in their communities will be prevented. All that and hand washing we know, is so important to maintaining good health.

$1.8 Million was raised! Save May 22, 2021! Hoping you will join in the fun next year!

Welcome New Elders and Deacons

in the church office.

Project Love by Karen Tsai

Project Love was born out of a desire to somehow make a difference during these months of being safe at home. As a family, we have a passion for giving back to others who are less fortunate, and we believed that there had to be some way to safely help folks in our community who are facing hardships due to the Coronavirus. In a mid-April virtual meeting, HIS House indicated that they needed help in providing meals to their 30 residents. Since YLPC has previously worked together with HIS HOUSE in providing food and support for those residing there, Project Love, with its goal of making a meal a week, was born. We

delivered the first meal on April 23rd and have continued doing so for a total of nine weeks.

There are so many from YLPC who have contributed many delicious sides and main entrees over this nine week period. The HIS House residents have been so grateful for these wonderful home-cooked meals and have eagerly anticipated the food being delivered each Thursday evening.

I want to extend my most sincere thanks to the many members of YLPC who have given so generously from their hearts by baking and cooking such wonderful food!! Truly, our YLPC Project of Love has been a blessing to so many, and we hope to take it up again at some point in the future. Thank you again to everyone who has participated!

June Session Notes

May 2020 Financial Report

**Session met on June 16 by Zoom video conference call. • The Pastor welcomed new Elders Michelle Almeida, Matt Kelley, Laurie

Stokes, and Marcia Willett. • The Clerk shared a letter of resignation from Elder John Hollon, which was

accepted, with regret. She also reported that with the sad passing of Phyllis Graham and Ine Gunawan-Budiardjo, membership is now 198.

• Lynn shared Ecclesiastes 3:16 and also information about the protest that was held at Jessamyn West Park.

• Stewardship reported that YLPC is in a healthy financial position. This is due to the PPP grant for $52,000 to be used for payroll and other expenses and the very generous increase in giving by one of our members. May financials were approved. Our insurance coverage is being reviewed by one of our elders.

• Worship Committee reported that the Safe Gathering Task Force has been meeting. A Pandemic Response Plan was previously emailed to the Session. A lengthy, thoughtful discussion was had. Session approved a resolution allowing resumption of on-campus meetings in July with attendance no larger than 15 people. All meetings must follow approved safety protocols and be moderated by a person who has completed safety protocol training. Trainings will be held June 25 and 27.

• Christian Ed reported that they are in a “wait and see” mode for the Summer Arts Camp scheduled in early August. A car parade for graduates was well received.

• Facilities shared the TV in the youth room has been installed. • Mission Committee reported that the Project Love volunteers will

continue to provide weekly meals for HIS House residents hopefully through July. Church members are encouraged to participate in providing food or helping with its transport.

• Personnel reported that the YLPC handbook will be a focus for the committee.

• Nominating Committee also will be meeting with the previous elder and will be working to fill the unexpired term of Elder from John Hollon’s resignation.

• Lynn shared information about the May Presbytery meeting and the need for an Elder rep to Endowment was tabled until next month.
