Here is my interpretation of an Evian sports cap bottle.
Here is my drawing that I done without lifting the pencil off the paper, also without looking down at the drawing as I go along.

Critical reflection For our second portfolio we were asked to design 3 images. As part of that, we were required to draw and trace. This assignment was a lot different to any other we had been given but I found this to be more hands on, and more creative. For our first task we had two choices, to draw either a fruit (apple) or a bottle. I decided to sketch my Evian bottle. To start with I tried to draw the classic curvaceous coke bottle, but that proved slightly more difficult than I had anticipated. I do not think I am a very good at drawing but using the charcoal was a new experience for me. It was interesting to see how much of an affect you notice when you hold the charcoal in different positions. I also noticed that when put to use in the correct way, the knead able rubber was good for trying to enforce shading / tone. The second task was to draw a portrait of a face without looking , and without lifting the pencil off the paper. The idea was to stare at your subject and draw this off memory. I found this to be one of the most out of the ordinary tasks, however, at the same time I think this was great fun. It took me at least 6 attempts to produce an image I was satisfied with. Da Silva was more than happy to be my model for the day and so I took full advantage of that! Hearing the approach my class mates took to drawing their pictures was rather helpful. Tracing the image into Illustrator was enjoyable yet simple. The methods and shortcuts David taught us in class were very useful. The set up of Illustrator is extremely similar to Photoshop so I applied some of my skills when creating my graffiti. The final task was to create an image of your name (or nickname) using Adobe illustrator. The ’Graffiti’ inspired challenge gave me a very open window to be creative with colours, shapes and even wording. In this image I tried to create some thing loud, but not too busy. This was my favourite task out of the three. It gave me a chance to explore the program and discover my own shortcuts. Looking back on that image, over all I really appreciate the end result -‐ To be able to complete our portfolio we had to learn the basics of Adobe Illustrator. Being introduced to a new software / program is always exciting but there is something so satisfying to see your image unfold. It is completely different to Photoshop -‐ you can see the pixel / line difference which makes your digital experience completely different. I enjoyed working with Illustrator and it is definitely something that I am going to work on and develop in. This portfolio has showed me two other ways to create images which are both very simple but can also be the most challenging. Che Johnson
