In order to use contour cut function on Graphtec CE5000 or
CE3000Mk2 units you will need following applications. OPS662 - the Graphtec cutting driver, always
found on original Graphtec CD. Cutting Master 2 - second version
of software plug-in for CorelDraw and Adobe Illustrator.
Graphtec cutters use two
languages for communication with PC. HPGL and GPGL. In order to
use contour cut function please select GPGL function.
In order to do this please turn on the cutter and put any media. When
you put down the media lever please select from any of offered options, Roll 1, Roll 2 or Sheet. After the
measurements of media are taken please press PAUSE button on
control panel and press NEXT button until you find option COMMAND.
After this you will find two languages
of communication as mentioned before. Please select GPGL by
pressing UP and DOWN buttons and confirm selection by pressing
ENTER. After this STEP size option will be offered. Please select “0.01” not any other and remember this
number. Be careful not to select 0.25, 0.5 or 0.1.

To confirm this value press ENTER and leave the MENU by
pressing the PAUSE button again. These values are stored even after
the cutting plotter power is turned off so you don’t need to worry about this anymore.
For installation of Cutting Master 2 it is a must to have only one
version of CorelDraw. Presence of two different versions of program will effect corrupted installation of plug-
in software therefore please remove any versions not needed. Version of
program up to 1.3 perform OK with versions of Corel 11, 12 and X3. Version 1.4 operates with Corel X4.
Also make sure you removed old version of Quick Cut if present. It is
also know that some versions of Windows XP SP1 and SP2, may cause errors in plug-in operation
since it uses Visual Basic as script base in CorelDraw. In this case you
need to re-install Windows or find other version of Windows XP installation CD. However this
application works with most of Windows versions and it should not
make any problems. After the standard Cutting
Master 2 installation start up the
CorelDraw application and click on the Rocket or Application launcher
just near the Import and Export icons on the top of the window. When you use the simple cutting option all that
is needed is to have drawn object for
cutting and click the Cut/Plot icon in the Rocket Launcher.
Functions of the started applications are usually known from the similar applications so we won’t
focus on them except the needed ones. When the new window is open,
on the last panel from the top, you will find value STEP SIZE which
you’ve already inserted into the cutter while setting the GPGL language. You need to setup the
same value you entered into the cutter. In our case that is 0.01. Right?
By setting this you are ready to start cutting so click DONE in the present window .
To use contour cut function you will need following:
- Image to contour cut- Contour cut line- Registration marks
In our example we used title “TEXAS” which was made in
CorelDraw. With this you need to check that vector data of image are not sent to Cutting Master 2 for
cutting. So you need to remove this drawing before performing contour
cut or to convert drawing to bitmap. After this you need to create
contour cut line. We used contour
option from the top menu but you can also make it by freehand.
When the cut data are created you should start the Registration marks application from the Rocket
launcher.In the next shown window
choose Graphtec Type 2 Automatic type of registration
marks. Margin should take any value but it should be at least 10 mm, but
we choose 15 mm. Width of line
should be from 0.3 to 0.7 and we choose 0.5. Lenght of marker line
should be between 10 mm and 20 mm. When you made your choice press OK and confirm choice.
When this is performed the registration marks will be created
around the image. Since you need to perform printing you need to temporary remove the contour cut
line. Select line and perform CUT function from EDIT menu. Later, you
will need to select PASTE to get this line back.

Since the layer that contains registration marks is locked you need
to unlock it before you will be able to export the data to EPS or TIFF format to perform printing. To do this
select TOOLS menu and then OBJECT MANAGER. When it
appears from the right side choose registration marks layer named “SA
regmark...”. Click the symbol of pen
and layer is unlocked. Now select everything on the page, including
registration markers and export data to your format. Now print your data on any wide format printer. It is
important not to print contour line except if you want to test the
precision of cutting. When the image is printed you
can put the vinyl into the cutter and
prepare it for cutting. Please select SHEET from the starting menu when
you insert the vinyl. Test the force of cutting prior to perform contour
cutting. Put the vinyl into the cutter the same way it is shown on the preview of Cutting Master 2. If you
rotate the image, do it by same value on both sides.
When you finished preparations get back the contour cutting line by selecting PASTE from EDIT menu,
and remove the image that is needed to be cut, or convert it to bitmap. Put
the tip of the cutter blade into the area of the first bottom right marker and DON’T press origin button for
any reason. Use navigation buttons to do this.
After this please select function Cut/Plot form the Rocket launcher
and Cutting Master 2 will be started. If you’ve chosen the proper model of cutter and you did setup the
STEP SIZE you may perform the cutting. Click SEND button and
program will warn you to set the tip of the blade into the area of first
marker, as you already did. Confirm you did it. After confirmation the cutter will start looking for the first
marker and then next and so on. After this blade should return on
the start position and start cutting.
If there is an error message during the mark reading try process
few more times and check if you did something wrong. Wrong markers, object in the area of marker, fresh
ink, colored background, reflective background, bad print or media
extension may cause bad mark reading. So the background must be white and non-reflective.
If the markers are read well but there is some difference between
wanted and real position check if printer is making an error in length direction which is common. Other
way to correct the cutting is to correct the file for the wanted value.
If markers are read well and still there is an error, move the contour line but don’t move the markers. We
recommend to keep the layer with markers locked.
If you made more than one copy of the same image in your RIP
software you can use automated
function to cut all of them by repeated function of reading keeping
the same quality. This is recommended for large number of small stickers where the quality and
precision is demand. You need to input the number of X and Y copies
and to set the distance between the same way you did it in your RIP software. It is recommended to have
at least 20 mm - 30 mm distance between the copies. The cutter will
read the marks one by one and cut the contour set as each is separated for itself. This way you can keep the
quality and save your time.
