Aisha recently developed a program, called 'What is in a name?", in an attempt to provide a framework for schools to begin to address the lack of black history in the current curriculum. Teachers reported to Aisha that they were very keen to add 'colour' in to the curriculum and support the 'decolonisation of the curriculum' agenda, however, many cited capacity and knowledge as a barrier to change. Project details: This project was a pilot in phase one of the development of the One Bristol Curriculum. Pilot was delivered in tree Bristol schools. Aisha is now in the process of developing phase two! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9YA4geZw_A (Video 1) https://youtu.be/aB889cAYwKg (Video 2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAFRqelKNqI&t=12s (Video 3) ONE BRISTOL CURRICULUM (OBC) AISHA THOMAS EDUCATOR- KEYNOTE SPEAKER - PRESENTER An Assistant Principal for Inclusion at an inner-city secondary school, in Bristol SLE (specialist leader in education) for EDI (equality, diversity and inclusion) and Community and PSHE (physical, social, emotional and economic education) Curriculum and content curator Keynote speaker CPD/training - ('Why representation matters") AISHA'S PROFILE Aisha partnered with the BBC, to present a documentary for Inside Out West regarding the lack of black teachers in Bristol. " I really enjoyed the interactivity of this session with the videos andquestions we had to answer. It was very eye-opening thinking aboutthe diversity in my placement school and really made me think aboutthe lack of teachers from ethnic minorities. I also now understand theimportance of representing all societies in my classroom to show thateveryone has a value and can contribute equally to society."University of Bristol -April 2020

TESTIMONIALS

Aisha delivered a talk Tedx talkentitled ‘Why representation matters’. In a world where many people do not see themselvesrecognised in all aspects of life, Aisha wanted to reignite thedebate and challenge the education system to look at itspractice. "Imagine living in a world where you are not represented.Until we lives in a society, where we are represented in allaspects of life, the question will always be...do I belong? It is time to re think representation." Aisha Thomas 2019 #Representationmatters https://youtu.be/-X-taPvKWbY
