President’s Message
Thetennisprogramhasfoundmostofitspartyleadersforthefirsthalfoftheyearbutislookingforpeopleinthesecondhalf.ContactJack or Casey Tarr,leadersoftheprogram,ifyouwouldliketoleadone.Thepartiesofferincrediblevalue:for$20,youget3sessionsofindoortennis,dinner,wine,beer,andsoftdrinks,plusawonderfuleveningofcamaraderie.Sundayinstructionaltennis,withnewleadersTammy Vetter and Jayne Lynch,isfilled.Bob RicheyhastakenoverTuesdayeveningtennisinWakefieldPark,afteryearsofGene Lee leadingit.OurOctobertriptoHiltonHead,SC,ledbyKarla Curran, is sold out and has a long waiting list.
AtourrecentBoardmeeting,wepassedaresolutionthankingBill Johnstonforallhisworkonthewebsite.HespentcountlesshoursontheMemberizesystem,whichgreatlyimprovedontwopriorsystemstheClubused.BillhasbeenoneoftheoutstandingcontributorstotheClub,servingasPresident,Boardmember,skitripleader,computerguru,andamanalwayswillingtohelpmemberswithwhateverproblemstheywerehavingwithclubpolicyorprocedures.
TheBoardhasjustfacedanissueaffectingsocietyasawhole,dealingwithtransgenderindividuals.Formostothers,itisaquestionofwhichbathroomtheyuse.Forus,itisaquestionofwhotheyroomwithforaweekonaskitrip,potentiallymuchmoreserious.WehavereferredittothePolicyCommittee,ledbyHoward Fisher,whohaspromisedtothoroughlyresearchitandcomeupwitharecommendedcoherentpolicy.
TheBoardjustmadeadecisionthatwillnotpleaseeveryone.Formanyyears,theduesforanewmemberhavebeen$45forasinglemembershipand$73foracouple/familymembership.Forarenewingmemberitwas$35single,$53foracouple/family.TheBoardfeltchargingnewmembersmorewascounterproductive.Wewantandneednewmembers.Wemustcontinuetobringinnewmembersorwewillslowlydie.Soovertheobjectionsofanumberoflong-timeclubmembers,theBoardvotedunanimouslytomaketheduesthesameforeveryone,neworrenewal,at$35single,$53couple/familyforaone-yearmembership.
OnSunday,November13,theClubwillagainbesponsoringaWarrenMillermovie.Thisyear’sfeatureisentitled“Here,There&Everywhere”.Savethedate.Thesearewonderfulfilmsaboutskiingwithgreatscenery.Thisannualeventisachancetomeetalotofotherski-mindedpeople.OurClubusuallygainssomenewmembersfromit,andtherevenuetotheClubissubstantial.MoredetailsareavailablefurtheroninthiseditionoftheSCWDCmagazine.
Itisawonderfultimetobepartofthisgreatorganization.
