Officials said the teach- ers left valley post 2016 unrest that erupted in wake of killing of Hizbul Muja- hidin commander, Burhan Wani in an encounter on July 08. However, are yet to report to their drawing and disbursing officers. “Scores of these teachers are absconding from their duties since 2016 unrest which has taken a toll on academics in government schools,” an official said. The prolonged absence of these teachers from the schools had forced the department to issue a circu- lar asking them to resume their duties however the circular received meager response from the teachers. On August 04, the Direc- torate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) in its circu- lar asked the migrant teach- ers to resume duties within week’s time “failing which disciplinary action will be taken against them.” “More than a week passed but some teachers have not resumed duties violating the government orders,” the official said. In its circular, DSEK also admitted that where- abouts of such employees were not known to their respective DDOs who have put such employees on notice. The officials said these teachers have entered into an agreement with the school education depart- ment at the time of their initial engagement that they shall in no case ask for transfer from Kashmir and shall discharge their duties in the valley under all circumstances. Meanwhile, director school education Kashmir G N Itoo said they are col- lecting the details of such teachers who are yet to resume their duties. “Some teachers have already reported back in their schools after we issued warning for them. He said the teachers will have to report to their schools or departmental action will be taken against them. “The list of teachers, who won’t report to their duties, will be forwarded to government to initi- ate departmental action against them,” he said. IRFAN AMIN MALIK Tral, Aug 21: Patients in Tral township of district Pulwama suffer due to the absence of specialist doctors at sub district hospital (SDH) Tral here. The hospital caters to the needs 87 villages of the town despite the lack of adequate medical staff. Locals told Greater Kashmir that in absence of an anesthetist, ophthalmologist, ENT, pediatrician, and orthopedician, the hospital has taken a toll on patient care in the sub-district. They said that due to the shortage of the specialist doctors in the hospital, patients are forced to visit Sri- nagar hospitals for specialized treatment. “For a simple checkup, we have to take our children either to Srinagar hospitals or private clinics as there is only one pediatrician, who he is unable to cater to the patient rush in the hospital. More so, there is only one surgeon available in the hospital while the patient influx has increased immensely. This is the height of official apathy of government towards the people of Tral,” said Mohammad Murtaza Sheikh, who was accompanying his ailing daughter in the hospital. Official documents available with Greater Kashmir reveal that out of 26 required staff, the hospital has just 13 doctors. “The hospital is running without anesthetist, ophthalmologist, ENT, pediatrician, and orthopedician,” the documents reveal. They urged the Chief Minister Mehbooba Muſti and health minister to provide specialist doctors for SDH Tral so that sufferings of the people are mitigated. When contacted chief medical officer Pulwama, Dr Talat Jabeen denied the shortage of doctors at SDH Tral. “Currently the staff strength of doctors at SDH Tral is adequate. Over the years we have increased the staff and hopefully more specialist doctors will be provided in future.” she said.
