    Crime Trends ReportNew York State law enforcement agencies submit periodic crime reports to the Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS). These monsubmissions are either aggregate level as reported under the Uniform Crime Reporting System (UCR) or case-based, incident level as runder the New York State Incident Based Reporting Program (NYSIBR). The UCR and NYSIBR programs are the primary sources of officstatistics and are used to assess the level of criminal activity within New York State counties. Emphasis has been placed on Index crimwhich include the violent crimes of murder, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault; and the property crimes of burglary, larcenymotor vehicle theft because of their seriousness or frequency of occurrence.

    Due to a recent increased interest in criminal firearm activity within New York State, DCJS is also tracking several firearm-related statisViolent crimes involving firearms are extracted from the monthly UCR and NYSIBR data files submitted by law enforcement agencies. Tfirearm activity data are self-reported by select law enforcement agencies participating in New York States Operation IMPACT program

    Firearm Activity Data DefinitionsShooting Incidents Involving Injury or Death Number of shooting incidents during the month where one or more persons were injurekilled as a result of the shooting. Data is reported each month by primary IMPACT jurisdictions.Shooting Victims (Persons Hit) Total number of victims shot in the shooting incidents reported, including individuals killed. Data is r

    each month by primary IMPACT jurisdictions.

    Individuals Killed by Gun Violence The number of murders resulting from firearm related injuries.Guns Recovered/Traced Through the ATF The number of crime gun traces submitted by IMPACT agencies to the Federal Bureau of

    Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF). Submissions include information on firearms that have been seized, recovered, and found local law enforcement agencies. Data is reported each month by primary IMPACT jurisdictions.

    Domestic Violence Victim DefinitionsDCJS collects information on victims of domestic violence reported through the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program. Domestic vio

    victims are identified by their relationship to the offender and are categorized as:

    Intimate Partner (Female/Male) Includes spouse, ex-spouse, and those in an intimate relationship (including dating or formerly datinrelationships, whether or not the intimate partners had ever lived together).

    Other Family Includes sibling, child, grandparent, grandchild, in-law, stepparent, stepsibling, and other blood and in-law relationshi

    Arrest Data DefinitionsDCJS maintains information on adult arrests and dispositions from the Computerized Criminal History System (CCH). CCH data is basearrest fingerprint cards submitted to DCJS by law enforcement agencies in accordance with Section 160.20 of the Criminal Procedure LFingerprints are submitted through either an automated system or by mailing in fingerprint cards.

    Felony and Misdemeanor Arrests within Jurisdiction - The number of arrests reported on CCH for the reporting month or year within tIMPACT jurisdiction.

    Parolee Arrests within Jurisdiction - The number of arrests of parolees reported on CCH for the reporting month or year within the IMPjurisdiction (May include multiple arrests for the same parolee during the reporting month or year). These counts are also incluthe above felony and misdemeanor totals.

    Probationer Arrests within Jurisdiction - The number of arrests of probationers reported on CCH for the reporting month or year withiIMPACT jurisdiction (May include multiple arrests for the same probationers during the reporting month or year). These counts included in the above felony and misdemeanor totals.

    IndictmentsFelony indictment and Superior Court Informations (SCIs) are reported to DCJS by District Attorneys and Special Prosecutors throughoState pursuant to Section 837-a of the Executive Law. The unit of count for these data is the defendant-indictment. When several defare named in one proceeding or indictment, each defendant is counted separately, and when one defendant is named in multiple procor indictments, each indictment is counted separately.
