Need for Stormwater Runoff Control
• Stormwater runoff collects and transports pollutants to surface waters.
• Pollution conveyed by stormwater degrades the quality of drinking water, damages fisheries and decreases quality of the habitat for plants and animals that depend on clean water for survival.
• According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), half of the country’s impaired waterways are affected by urban/suburban and construction sources of stormwater runoff.
3
Runoff Reduction Techniques
• Area Reductions• Standard Practices• Green Infrastructure: Vegetated Swale, Green Roof, Rain Garden, Stormwater
Planters, Rain Barrels, Porous Pavement
Rain Garden

Integrative Process Credit (IP)Identify and use opportunities to achieve synergies across disciplines and building systems. Water‐related systems (including all potential non‐potable water supply sources volume) is one area to assess. 1 CREDIT
Sustainable Site (SS)Rainwater Management: Reduce runoff volume and improve water quality; i.e. store runoff in a rainwater harvesting system. 4 CREDITS
