JISC branding

Why is JISC branding important?

Your work is more likely to be communicated via JISC channels

Based on wider recognition, provides a stronger platform to attract further funding for future innovative activities

Builds a recognition with the end user that the JISC brand is a 'kitemark' for quality, reliable products and services

Getting your message across: top tips

1. Put your self in the reader’s shoes – what is of interest to them?

6. Avoid acronyms

2. Write according to whether your project has just started (what you hope to achieve) or completed (what you achieved)

7. Write in the active, not passive eg. ‘we found this’, not ‘this was found’

3. Your first paragraph should capture the essentials about your project (context – why the work is important and to whom, audience’s problem, your solution)

8. Be clear and brief. Keep to the point.

4. Don’t beg important questions – always answer the ‘why?’

9. Keep sentences short

5. Use plain English and explain terms your audience will not understand

10. Ask a non-expert to read your text to make sure it makes sense to them.

Topic a bit dry Personalise the message/ tell a story/ use case studies

Lots of information to convey Pick out findings that are most relevant/ ground-breaking/ topical

Want feedback/involvement Web 2.0 blogs/ social media

Want people to act on findings Guidelines/ tips/ case studies to show relevance/ tell them how!

Audience is busy Write a brief executive summary/ podcasts/ printouts people can read on the go
