32 DOGS BARKING AND HOWLING PUBLISHED MAY 16 IN CATEGORY GREENLAND WITH DOGSLEDGE 2015 Thursday 14th May: Is a lot of work with the dogs and it’s hard going trying to keep them under control. Clare and two others skied the 31.5 Km yesterday, and the other 5 including me did the dogs which also involves, skiing, shouting, untangling, encouraging…. We hope to arrive at DYE 2 tomorrow after 22km. DYE is and old relic from America’s early warning ballistic systems against the Russians… —————————————————————————————– Friday 15th May: We did the planned 22km today, and here we are at our planned stop to visit DYE 2, a surreal experience seeing a building that was evacuated in 48 hours as it was at risk of collapse…. went into the radar dome and just wandered around this ghost structure. + The dogs are in good form, howling half the time as some are in heat. Lying here now listening to 32 dogs barking and howling, the lack of sleep is more annoying than anything else. I (Mike) am back on the dogs tomorrow and Clare is skiing, they will sleep tomorrow night, after I finish driving them on or myself insane… Weather fabulous today but very cold. An amazing day, sunny and no wind at all. We had a We had a really good dinner, brownies and a drink before visting the station. In the evening the ski group came and joined us at our campsite. Here is another portrait of Salo, our Greenlandic dog musher. Not a work of English, but a great character ! Greetings from everybody !
