Strong Tower tonight Join your friends tonight, for a great time of fellowship. Dear Elders, Deacons, and Congregants of Highland Christian Reformed Church, I, Gregory J. Kett, on behalf of my family, graciously accept your Call to be a Minister of the Word and Sacrament at Highland Christian Reformed Church. We are excited and thankful to be a part of your family! May God bless our relationship for many years. And, may God be praised as we all journey together toward heaven, make disciples of all nations, and love God and our neighbor. In Christ’s love, Pastor Greg

Congregational Prayers:

Brenda Ouwinga, who is recovering from surgery, received the news that she has Stage 2 ovarian cancer. She will begin chemo next Wednesday in Traverse City. She would like to thank everyone for the meals, cards and especially all the prayers on her behalf. Please continue to be in prayer for her and her family. Esther Bode will have another treatment next Thursday. She would appreciate your prayers, daily. Anna VanPolen would like to thank everyone for their continued prayers. She will have a PET scan in Reed City on Tuesday and a biopsy in G.R., after it has been scheduled. Please continue to keep Anna and her family in your prayers. Katie Medendorp, Pearl Koetje, Carol Niver, Vicki Mosher, and Dave Westmaas would appreciate your prayers, as they deal with ongoing health issues. We extend our condolences to Pete DeHaan in the death of his twenty-three year old grandson, James Knapp, who suffered from muscular dystrophy. 2 Chronicles 20: 6 and 12 “O Lord, God of our fathers, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you…We have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.”

Anyone interested in contributing to the next Highlighter, please contact Arla Roede. Praise Nine Plus Guys will practice next Wednesday evening, May 10th at 7:15 pm. It’s that time of year again when we will be collecting items for the Helping Hands Drive. Collection boxes will be placed at the north and east wing entrances. Thanks for your generosity!!!! If you have any questions, please call Julie 231 743-6260 or Carrie 231 250-7517. The Helping Hands Team Please check the shelf across from the kitchen entrance for the dish, tray, bowl, etc. you brought to the luncheon, to take home today. Thank you! KIDS HOPE END OF YEAR PARTY The end of our school year is fast approaching and our last week of Kids Hope is the last week of May. Mark your calendars for Thursday, May 25th from 2:00-3:00 pm, for our Kids Hope party where we can end our year in style! Any questions, contact me! Betsy Roger Hagerman will not be taking pictures this week, but there is still time to get your picture taken next week. Please give Pastor Kett the gift of an updated photo of your family. Contact Dollene VanPolen (878-6070) to get your picture in the online directory. If you have a picture you would like downloaded, contact Shari Benthem (920-1589 or [email protected]) and she can do that for you. Job Opening: Beginning July 1, 2017 the inside church custodian position will be available. Please send your resume to Highland CRC, Attention Human Resources, 9034 23 Mile Road, Marion, MI 49665 by May 8, 2017. Bring your rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, pressure washers, garden hoses, etc. to church Wednesday, May 10th at 6:30 pm, to spruce up the church grounds after our long, drawn out winter. As my grandma always said, “Many hands make light work.” Won’t you please help? Any questions, call Rick Dorman 743-6260.

Please put the following corrections in your church directory: Add Caleb and Caitlin to Chad and Christina Dodde’s family, and please place an asterisk next to Lanell Pluger’s, Nathan Veddler’s and Lacy Veddler’s name, as they are members of our church. I apologize for the omissions. You may also wish to add Makayla Powers to Cory Powers, and the births of Maggie to Nicole and Aaron Koetje, Hank to Miranda and Cole Dykhouse, and Brekken to Kelly and Gary Hesselink. If there are any other changes to be made, please call the church office. Thank you. Attention Sunday School Kids and Their Families: We will be having a Bingo/Ice Cream Sundae Party on May 21st at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Come and play Bingo with your child/children and enjoy some ice cream at the same time. The teachers are ‘off the clock’ that night so you will need to stay with your children during the party. Bingo, prizes, and ice cream; what more could you want?! Feel free to reach out to us with any questions. Alan and Dana Baas Higher Ground, an arm of the Love In the Name of Christ ministry, is in need of some items for their “store” where the attendees may spend their earned points. Items needed include deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste, toilet tissue, disposable razors, dish soap and laundry soap. In addition to personal items, we would appreciate gently used men’s items such as tools, camping gear, fishing equipment, etc. At this time, there is no need for clothing. Thanks for your gifts. They may be dropped off at the Love INC. office on Whaley Road from 9:30-3:30, Monday-Friday. Call 231 779-1888 if you need someone to pick them up. God bless you as you give to others! May is Foster Care Month. Bethany Christian Services would like to invite you to think about becoming a foster parent. There are millions of children needing a foster home, many of them in our area, as well as thousands of refugee children who need a safe home and countless orphans around the world. Won’t you please consider giving a child a place in your home and your heart? All your heart. All your soul. All your strength. Deuteronomy 6: 5
