Today, we celebrate the Confession of Peter. It’s also a great time to celebrate God’s confession of faith – his faith in you. In the quiet of this night, in the quiet of your prayers, ask Jesus that same question about you: “Lord, who do you say that I am?” And I believe that he is longing for you to hear and to know in the very depth of your soul, that “You are my beloved, in whom I am well pleased!” - Br. The love of Jesus calls us our joyous praise to sing; Our deeply felt thanksgivings we now together bring,For all God’s many blessings, unasked yet still received,And for the generations, who faithfully believed.

The love of Jesus calls us in swiftly changing days,To be God’s co-creators in new and wondrous ways; That God with men and women may so transform the earth,That love and peace and justice may give God’s kingdom birth.

Response of Faith The Great Commandment

One Christ, when asked which commandment was the greatest, answered withthe mandate to love. Together, let us say,

All Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first and the great commandment. The second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.

Prayers of the People

For Courage and Peace - NZ Prayer Book

All God of the present moment, God who in Jesus stills the storm and soothes the frantic heart; bring hope and courage to us as we wait in uncertainty. Bring hope that you will make us the equal of whatever lies ahead. Bring us courage to endure what cannot be avoided, for your will is health and wholeness; you are God, and we need you. Amen.

The Lord's PrayerOne In the words Christ teaches us, we now pray, All Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.

Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Save usfrom the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, thepower and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.

Hymn Praise to the Lord, the Almighty Tune - Lobe Den Herren

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy health and salvation! All ye who hear, brothers and sisters draw near;Praise Him in glad adoration.

Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee;Surely His goodness and mercy here daily attend thee;Ponder anew what the Almighty can do,If with His love He befriend thee.

Praise to the Lord, who, when tempests their warfare are waging,Who, when the elements madly around thee are raging,Biddeth them cease, turneth their fury to peace,Whirlwinds and waters assuaging.

Praise to the Lord, oh, let all that is in me adore Him!All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before Him;Let the Amen sound from His people again,Gladly for aye we adore Him.

Christianity is a way of life, a way of living and doing, not just a system of beliefs. We do Christianity with our hands and feet.

If you do Christianity right, you might even break a sweat.-Br. Mark Brown, SSJE

When the Kingdom comes in its fullnessit will be mostly the triumph of small things.

The widow’s mite; the boy’s five barley loaves and two fish that fed thousands.Even the smallest gestures of kindness, love, compassion, patience, generosity.

These are the flags of dawn.-Br. Mark Brown, SSJE

Jesus comes and heals through us. Healing does not always require talking about a hurt or loss.

Professionals and talk-therapy can be helpful, but what is often most effective is normal family, neighborhood,

and faith community relationships. Keep ordinary connections.

Listen with compassion, without judgment or fixing. Rather than whirling words, give the gift of shared silence.

-Br. Luke Ditewig, SSJE
