Well, well, well … June 2012 is here. Can you believe it? Me neither. It seems like just yesterday that it was June 2011 and I was looking at a big year ahead of me.
It has been a big year for sure, and now, suddenly it seems, it’s almost gone. It has been my privilege to serve as your Governor and I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I would recommend the job as District Governor to anyone. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The only requirements are wanting to be the Governor and time to do the job justice. I think I enjoyed it as much as I did because I actually did have the time to take on the governorship without being stressed out with other responsibilities such as work, kids, pets, housekeeping … none of which I had to worry about. Family and friends have been graciously put on hold this year and all of these things combined have given me the opportunity to commit 90% of my time to being the Governor.
Someone asked what I would consider my greatest regret for the year. I thought about this, but my only regret is that although many great ideas and wonderful opportunities crossed my path during the year, unfortunately, I couldn’t act on all of them.
To everyone in the District who accepted a position of leadership or helped in any way through the year, I thank you for your time and efforts. This isn’t a one-man job and it was with the help of those surrounding me in the District that many of our goals and accomplishments were reached. Most importantly, I would like to thank Lenore for her excellent job in designing the newsletter and publishing a great issue every month; and Sandra for her help in editing and proofing the newsletter each month. Ladies, Thanks a Million!!
The year isn’t quite over yet; we have one last hurrah – The District Conference. The Conference will be held at Seven Springs Mountain Resort from Thursday, June 21 to Sunday, June 24, 2012. I am pleased to extend a hearty welcome to all of the Rotarians, family and friends in our District to come and enjoy the fun and fellowship as we – me especially – celebrate a wonderful Rotary year.
Tom, I leave for Aruba on Thursday morning June 28th so I am officially putting you on notice that you are in charge of the District for the last two days of my year. It will give you a chance to practice your governing skills for July 1st. My very best to you and Marie as your year of “Peace Through Service” begins.
Thank you, one and all, for making my year so special. The pleasure has been all mine.
Greetings District 7300 Rotarians, Family and Friends,

Sincerely Yours In Service,Karl Ohrman

Successful Rotarians commit to Rotary. The best of the best believe wholeheartedly in Rotary International. They believe in the Rotary cause. They believe in Rotary “Service Above Self”. They believe in and support The Rotary Foundation (TRF). They believe in their local club as the heart of Rotary. They believe in Rotary membership and work hard to maintain their club’s membership.
There is a direst relationship to the level of belief one has in Rotary and the level that one is able to convince people that Rotary is good for them and for their community.
There is a concept called “The Transfer of Enthusiasm.” The more one is convinced and enthusiastic about Rotary, the more contagious the enthusiasm is. People will pick up on these super positive vibes and be eager to act on their feelings and join Rotary.
It’s also true that the more you love Rotary, the more committed you will be. This love and commitment will lead you to naturally care more about your fellow Rotarians and membership prospects.
A special Membership workshop titled “Rotary Membership Goes to the Movies” will be held at 8:30 AM on Friday, June 22, 2012, at the RotaryDistrict 7300 Conference being held at Seven Springs Mountain Resort. This workshop will be guaranteed fun so please try to make it.

Student of the Month: Jackie Kutzfara
Jackie is a senior at Elizabeth Forward High School and has been chosen at the "Student of the Month" by the Elizabeth Rotary Club based on her community service.
For those of you who know me on a personal level, you know that I’m not usually one to be at a loss for words. However, I’m finding it more than difficult to write my last article as your District Governor’s Newsletter Editor.
I have learned so much about Rotary International, Rotary District 7300 and the vast family of Rotarians within it while serving during the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 Rotary years as Editor.
First and foremost I want to thank Nina Stahlberg, Cindy Sakala, Sue Kelly and Sandra Rebholz.
Thank you Nina for bringing me into the Rotary family. Without your warm invitation to breakfast, I may never have had an opportunity to experience Rotary. You and the members of the Forest Hills Rotary Club changed my life’s path and I’ll be forever grateful for that.
Thank you Cindy and Sue for developing me as a Rotarian and as a woman. You’ve supported and encouraged me in both good times and bad. Your leadership skills in Rotary and in life have set the bar high and are most admirable.
Last, but definitely not least, thank you Sandra for being ... well, for being my everything! I consider Sandra not only an excellent Rotary mentor, but also my Rotary Mother and one of my best friends. She says we’re like two peas in a pod ... there’s no other pea I’d rather share my pod with!
These four women are truly AMAZING and praiseworthy. I hope to one day be to someone else what they have been to me. I, without a doubt, consider them my role models, my friends and my family. Thank you ladies!
I’d also like to take a moment to introduce you to and to pass the Rotary leadership torch on to Eric Junstrom from the Pittsburgh East Rotary Club. Eric will be serving as your 2012-2013 District Governor’s Newsletter Editor under DGE Tom Fallon.
Starting Friday, June 15, 2012, all E-mail regarding the District newsletter being sent to [email protected] will automatically be forwarded to Eric. Please join me in welcoming Eric to the Rotary District 7300 family!
Although I’m “peacing out” as the Governor’s Newsletter Editor, yours truly will still be serving you by wrangling the worlwide web as District Webmaster. Be sure to visit www.rotarydistrict7300.org for all the latest and greatest District information, contacts and news.
For web submissions, please E-mail [email protected].
Thank you and I’ll be seeing you on the web Rotary District 7300!

Hi Friends of District 7300 RYE, As we move closer to the end of the 2011-12 school year, we need to secure Host Families and Host Clubs for the 2012-13 Inbound Students. Everyone on the District 7300 Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) Committee would appreciate your consideration and assistance in getting this done in the next four weeks. The students selected for the Pittsburgh Region are as follows:
• Anna (16) from Yakutsk, Russia has played competitive volleyball and enjoys playing the guitar. She is active, cheerful, responsible, honest and humorous.
• Barbara (16) from Bauru, Brazil is a typical teenager who enjoys travelling. She is likable, determined and enjoys being with friends.
• Laura (16) from Chalon sur Saone, France participates in boxing and gymnastics. She is responsible, spontaneous, adventures, adaptable and social.
• Jose (16) from Machala, Ecuador is into sports especially basketball, soccer, and swimming. He has a strong sense for moral and spiritual values.
• Tommy (17) from New Taipei, Taiwan is very much into fitness and being a good student. He is outgoing and initiates activities.
The following two students have been assigned as noted, but may still need additional hosts:
• Giulia from Italy has been assigned to Burrell High School and being hosted by Burrell Area Rotary Club.
• Ricardo from Venezuela has been assigned to Hopewell High School and being hosted by Aliquippa and Moon Township Rotary Clubs.
Please consider either yourself or someone you may know who may have interest in getting to know these students and their cultures by being a Host or Host Club. Hosting these students is very rewarding and allows you to experience culture right in your own back yard forming long lasting relationships and friends around the world. Further information is available and can be sent to you via e-mail. I appreciate your help and welcome any ideas or suggestions as I work with the District 7300 Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) Committee in completing our obligation for hosting these students for the next school year. ...doing good in the world Dr. Roger S. and Ruth Beck, and Holly and Joe Clark 251 Orchard Street Rocky Hill, Connecticut 06067 Thursday, May 24, 2012 Dear Roger, Ruth, Holly and Joe, It was 3 December 1985 that yours truly along with the then RI President Carlos Canseco of Mexico placed a Rotary pin on the lapel of Chris, inducting him as a member of the Three Rivers Rotary Club. Since that date, Chris has made many friendships through his participation in all of Rotary’s programs and projects, especially Youth Exchange, training and the Rotary Foundation. He rose through the ranks to attain leadership roles in almost all programs. He was valued and appreciated by all who had the privilege to work with him. Personally, we traveled together to various events in our state as well as RI Conventions. Barbara and I have always included Chris as a member of our family and one of our closest friends. We shared dinners at our home – Chris brought the beer from various countries and I cooked the steaks on the grill. During one of those discussions Chris informed me with a copy of an insurance policy that listed a Bequest Society contribution to our Rotary Foundation upon his passing. Just yesterday I was notified that the Rotary Foundation received the check in the amount of $50,000 from the insurance company. Simply, it pleases me to know that one of Chris’ legacies will support educational and humanitarian projects. Using only the earned interest from his investment, Rotary clubs in our area will be able to touch the lives of people everywhere into perpetuity each and every year. Chris appreciated the following: ”Rotary actions and giving are not a journey to the final reward with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to slide in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming: WOW....what a ride!!!" Chris lived the above and shall always be remembered. Thank you for sharing him with Rotary. PEACE Louis P. Piconi H: 412.831.1161 E: [email protected]
My Favorite Poem
God has given me a place on earth to be here for a while I hope that as I’m passing through I will make somebody smile
I want to make life easier for all those that I meet I ask God for His blessings to the strangers on the street
I hope I’ll never fail a child if I can help somehow I want to be as generous as my resources will allow
And when my life on earth is done, it will be my final plea Let someone somewhere think or say
“You made a difference to me.” Louis P. Piconi,

with one of these conditions. PIND is working
toward an integrated, collaborative interdiscipli-

Dear Friends, Another golf season is approaching, and it is not too early to circle your calendar for Monday, July 16 for our 14 annual Gerry Dulac Parkway West Rotary Classic at the Diamond Run Golf Club.
th
Last year was one of our biggest and best events ever, with more than 100 golfers participating, and we want to continue to build on that momentum by personally inviting you to join us at Diamond Run – a Gary Player signature course that is one of the finest private facilities in Western Pennsylvania.
Our primary objective has always been to make sure each golfer has a day they will remember by offering great golf, gifts, prizes and unmatched hospitality, all at a price that makes it the best value for a charity tournament in the Tri-State area. And I didn't even mention the post-round dinner that features silent and live auctions. This event has enabled Parkway West Rotary charities to increase its service and support of causes in western Allegheny County, This year, we are proud to announce that we have entered a two-year partnership with Robinson Township – my hometown – to fund the purchase of an outdoor stage to be used at community events. Please come help us support our cause and enjoy a day of golf I promise you won't forget by mailing the completed entry form, along with your check, to the Parkway West Rotary Club (see enclosed address) or charge by credit card by calling 724-947-1234. Thank you in advance for your support and I look forward to seeing you on July 16 at Diamond Run.
Sincerely,
