Recommended FY 20201 Capital Budget and FY 2021–2026 Capital Improvement Program I am happy to share the superintendent’s recommendation FY 2021 Capital Budget included Stonegate for a major capital project. This is great news for our school community. Please read the blurb below that I copied from the booklet.
I will continue to share information with you as well as our PTA. This is truly great news for us!
Stonegate Elementary School Capital Project: Current projections indicate enrollment at Stonegate Elementary School will exceed capacity by 92 seats by the end of the six-year planning period. A major capital project is approved for this school to address various building systems as well as the capacity and programmatic needs for this school. An FY 2020 appropriation was approved for planning to begin the
architectural design for this project. An FY 2021 appropriation is recommended for this major capital project. This project is scheduled to be completed January 2024. Additional information regarding the major capital projects can be found in Supplement C—FY2021–2026 Major Capital Projects Update at the following link: www.montgomeryschoolsmd. org/departments/planning/cipmaster.aspx. Halloween Parade 3 Important Messages That You Need To Know about Halloween Parade and The Harvest Festival
1. Parents of students who celebrate Halloween are invited to attend the Halloween Parade at 2:00. In an effort to promote school safety, ALL VISITORS MUST SIGN IN AT THE TABLE IN THE MAIN HALLWAY and proceed to the blacktop at the rear of the school. The parade viewing area will be held on the blacktop only. The sign in table will open at 1:30 on October 31 st.
2. All students who do not celebrate Halloween are invited to attend the Harvest Festival at 2:00 on October 31 st. Parents are invited to volunteer for this event, too. A copy of the letter has been home to students. Hopefully, you have completed the letter and returned it back to school.
3. Please donate old Halloween costumes in good condition! We have some students who would like to celebrate but may not come to school with a costume on the 31st. Please bring them to the office in good and clean condition.
4. Students can’t bring their weapons to school with their costumes.

County to Host Free Flu Clinics in October and November (English and Spanish)
The 2019 flu season is upon us. There are simple steps you and your child can take to stay healthy and help prevent the flu. That includes getting a yearly flu vaccine.
The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services will conduct free injectable flu vaccine clinics on Tuesday, November 12 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for children 18 and under at John F. Additional flu clinics for all county residents will be held on Monday, October 21, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and on Monday, November

Here are some additional steps that you and your family can take to help prevent the spread of the flu and other seasonal illnesses:
1. Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze, or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer. MCPS-approved hand sanitizer dispensers are available for use at various locations throughout schools (e.g., near the cafeteria or all-purpose room, near the main office).
2. When coughing or sneezing, cover your nose and mouth with your sleeve or a tissue and throw the tissue in the trash.
3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth to minimize the chance for infection.
4. Stay home from work and school if symptoms develop such as fever, coughing, sneezing, runny nose, headache, and body aches.
5. If you have concerns about the health of your child, please contact your physician immediately or, in an emergency, dial 911.

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional, and academic success. Attention is focused on creating and sustaining primary (school-wide), secondary (classroom), and tertiary (individual) systems of support that improve lifestyle results (personal, health, social, family, work, recreation) for all youth by making targeted misbehavior less effective, efficient, and relevant, and desired behavior more functional.
One of the foremost advances in school-wide discipline is the emphasis on school-wide systems of support that include proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create positive school environments. Instead of using a piecemeal approach of individual behavioral management plans, a continuum of positive behavior support for all students within a school is implemented in areas including the classroom and non-classroom settings (such as hallways, buses, and bathrooms). Positive behavior support is an application of a behaviorally-based systems approach to enhance the capacity of schools, families,
and communities to design effective environments that improve the link between research-validated practices, and the environments in which teaching and learning occurs.
Our Expectations are: ❖ Be Respectful ❖ Be Responsible ❖ Be Committed ❖ Be Safe
Clothing To Cash Recycling Program
Clothing to Cash® is a program that collects New and Used Clothing, Shoes, Sheets, Towels, (all Textiles) and pays the school 10 cents for every pound collected. The program is operated entirely OUTSIDE and will be located in the school parking lot, where students, parents, staff and the community can drop off items throughout
the year. They have state of the art photo quantity sensors installed in each bin that report 3 times daily to prevent overflow and allows the company to schedule service as needed (no other companies use this technology). They empty the collection bin, weigh the contents to determine our school earnings and pays our school monthly. The average school (500 - 1000 students) will earn $1000- $2000 yearly if each student would donate just one 13-gallon kitchen size trash bag yearly!! Add in parents, siblings, relatives, neighbors, and staff and Stonegate’s earnings could really increase.
Parent Portal The myMCPS Portal is a central location for students and their parents, guardians, or other authorized adults to access MCPS student information. Parents/guardians who do not have an account created, please create one so that you can access the parent portal.
