Ongaonga School Newsletter – 15 th February 2017 - Term 1 - Week 3 Greetings to the Ongaonga School Community, Kia Ora… Tena koutou, Tena koutou, Tena koutou Katoa. A very warm welcome to Ruby Moorcock who joins room 1. Welcome to mum Lisa Wiggins and dad Jeremy Moorcock to the Ongaonga School community. Next week we welcome Kelly Smith to room one and our teaching staff. She is on her final practicum to complete her teacher training. I know you will enjoy teaching our amazing Ongaonga students and working with our great staff. School BBQ Thank you for your understanding of the postponement of the school BBQ last week we were hoping it would warm up enough, during the day to hold it. I look forward to meeting you all tomorrow night, once again with weather permitting. I will welcome everyone at 5.00pm at the front of school from where students can take parents, grandparents and families to their classes for an informal tour. This is an informal meet and greet the teacher, if parents would like to discuss specific concerns please make an appointment with the teacher for a time suitable for both. At approximately 5.30 Room 6, as part of their camp fundraising ventures, will provide the most delicious burgers, sausages and other food items for purchase. Swimming sports Our school swimming sports practice ran like clockwork with only the announcer needing to fine-tune his performance, I will be ready for Friday. Our students were great ambassadors for Ongaonga School demonstrating pride, courtesy, perseverance and our ACE values. It is in real world situations that one truly sees character and our students represented us as we would expect, it made me feel proud to support them. A large green towel went missing at the practise day so if found please return it to school as the owner was rather upset about its loss. This Friday, 17 February, is our actual competitive school swimming sports at the Waipukurau Pools. Rooms 4, 5 and 6 will be travelling there for a 10.00am start. Room 1 and 3 will travel to the pool slightly later on with their races starting at 11.30am. 16th February School Barbeque @ 5.00pm 17th February School Swimming Sports 23rd - 28th February Life Education 2nd March Interschool Swimming Sports 6th March Bike Week 6th March Testing Week 10th March School Triathlon 14th & 15th March Goal Setting Interviews 14th April Good Friday/School Holidays 1st May Term 2 Begins We will bus all students to the pool, students living in Waipawa or Waipukurau may meet us at the pool at 9.50am. Please sign up to our closed group Facebook messages page, check the phone tree or ensure we have your correct details at the school office. Learning Support We are fortunate to have some additional staffing this year allowing us to provide extra learning support across the school. Mrs Gordon and Mrs Harding are working in classes or with groups of students to support their learning. Our aim is to accelerate learning to support the ideal of success for all. My Trip to Taupo

In the weekend I went to Taupo. I went to the hotpools. I went on a boat, it went fast, it was a speedboat. By Alessandra Gray

At Allie and Dion’s

I went to Allie and Dion’s house. Michelle was there too. We had great fun. We went in the pool, Allie and me put our heads under the water with our goggles. I was shivering because I was cold. I liked playing in the pools. I went to the shop with dad and we bought a red ute and a yellow car, the ute had a trailer. By Kyden Butler Toy day in Room 1 tomorrow. A separate

letter has come home tonight. Size 4 Ongaonga School shirt in Room 1.

Does it belong to you?

Thank you - Brenda
