Angela Coulter “ My family and I have been
members at Greggton for four
years. As a child I grew up here
and it just seemed natural to come
back when I moved back to Long-
view. Since coming back to
Greggton I have taught Sunday
school for the past two years and
help with LIHN. I feel God calls
upon each of us in different ways
to serve and I am just blessed to be a part of what takes
place at Greggton!”
In addition to teaching Sunday school, Angela and
her husband, Buck, also teach 5th and 6th grade Pioneer
Club. Like Angela, all of our Sunday school teachers
are committed to serving the children each week. These
teachers give of their time in order to love and serve the
children very well.

in our understanding of God’s very special love for the
poor. We will have a
guest missionary from
World Orphans along
with a Compassion pres-
entation. You will also
have the opportunity to
intervene in the life of at
least one child in poverty
by sponsoring a precious
boy or girl. For more information, contact Sara
Straznicky at [email protected] or visit
www.compassion.com. Be sure to join us for this spe-
cial Sunday service!
This week was full of fun for the children at
Greggton. Pioneer Club continues to be an evening of
fun and learning and we continue to see the classes
growing. This past week, classes learned things such as
how to use a compass, how to properly fold clothes,
how to trust in the Bible as God’s true, written word and
how to help and serve others around them. All of the
children are also working on memorizing a specific
scripture in their classes. Please pray that the children
will develop a deep relationship with Jesus Christ as
they come each week to learn about him.
Children’s church started this past Sunday during the
Connect service. During this time, we worshipped with
a song, learned about the parable of the vineyard, made
cards for those who are sick, and enjoyed a snack to-
gether. If you are interested in serving by helping with
Children’s church on a rotating basis, please let me
know. You will be blessed as you see the joy and excite-
ment that the children have for learning about Jesus.
As you may have seen around the church, Operation
Christmas Child is a project that our church will be par-
ticipating in this year. Please look for information to
come home with your child in the coming weeks about
how you can help your child minister to someone in an-
other country just by filling a shoe box. Operation
Christmas Child is a great opportunity for you to teach
your children about being generous. Please consider
how your family can take part in this exciting opportu-
nity to bless other children around the world.
Acolyte Training and You Are Invited! We’re inviting 5th graders
and up who would like to
serve as acolytes, reading the
scripture, lighting the candles,
and helping with communion
at the 1st service to join in a
training time on Wednesday,
September 28th at 6pm. The
training will be led by Madison Garcia. For more infor-
mation, contact the church office.
SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS Agape: We had twelve members present today. Dean Hinton taught our lesson on “Ecclesiastes-Wisdom and Aging.” We
continue to pray for our members who are recovering at home.
Alethea: Today’s lesson, “Teaching Values” was led by Doug Howser. There were thirty-one present. Thanks to the class
volunteers who assisted with serving the Wednesday Family Night dinner. Prayer concerns for Billie Bennett, Wanzelle
Finley, Laura Hall Quinalty, and Don & Virginia Abbott. Happy birthday to Sondra Allen (9/25).
Friendship/Sunshine: Ten members present for the blessing of the lesson based on Proverbs 15 “Teaching Values.” What
a wonderful day this is! Prayer for those ill and suffering loss. Keep our church and staff in your prayers this week.
New Beginnings: We had a large group this morning as we continued our Feasting on the Word study. Today's les-
son was "God, the Lousy Bookkeeper" from Matthew 20:1-16 taught by Mark Neely. Prayer concerns this week in-
clude: Susan Mosley, Trod Dunn (Mindy Holley’s Vice Principal’s son), Jose and his family (Ira Sheek’s boss’s
dad), Hardy Cline (Barry Cline’s dad), Chris Sartor (student at Pine Tree High), Jennifer (Mark Neely’s co-worker’s
daughter), and a joy for John & Janet Adams who welcomed a new grandbaby, Drake.
UMW News The monthly meetings of UMW began again with
renewed enthusiasm after a summer hiatus.
We welcomed Pastor Rick, his wife Patricia, and
Sara Straznicky. Could we hope for 2 out of 3 new
members?
UMW already has begun fundraising with the
sale of Butter Braid Pastry. Look for a UMW mem-
ber in the narthex and the back hallway on Sunday.
This is a pay in advance item so be prepared to
cover all your favorite flavors. Yes, we will be sell-
ing pecans but not quite yet.

Operation Christmas Child Our church will partici-
pate again this year in the
Shoe Box Gift Program.
By packing a gift-filled
shoe box, you bring joy,
hope, and the good news
of God’s love to needy
children around the world.
The Adult Ministries group
will be coordinating the effort during September and
October. Sunday School classes, the Pioneer Club, and
individuals are being asked to help in this ministry and a
suggested time-line for activities will be forthcoming.
We need standard adult-size, street or athletic shoe
boxes for this ministry. Do you have or can you get any
of these boxes? The boxes will be filled with small gifts
of toys, school supplies, hygiene articles and other items
for children and youth, ages 2 to 14 years old. Empty
boxes can be placed in Room 205 (the room at the top of
the ramp leading from the sanctuary). Let’s get started
and make this our most successful year yet!
Children’s Sabbath is October 23 We will celebrate God’s love for children across the
world in a special way this Sunday. You will hear about
the work our Children’s Director’s (Esther Brown’s)
brother is doing with a group called World Orphans.
There will be opportunities for you to adopt a child
through Compassion International and a reminder of the
work that we are doing through the United Methodist
Advance with AIDS Orphans in Africa. Join us as we
celebrate all the wonderful opportunities that we have to
serve God and God’s children.
Thank You for your Support! We’re a church focused on three things: 1) Celebrating
the power and presence of God; 2) Connecting to each
other and our neighbors for spiritual growth and health;
and 3) Contributing to a better world- a Kingdom
world. It’s exciting to see how we are living out these
purposes. This past week you gave $1025 to help the men
of Gideon’s International place Bibles across the
world. Way to go, Greggton!
