Market Update
IT Security
With ever increasing levels of cyber threats, 20162017 will see
organisations seriously looking at ways to protect their IP and internal
infrastructure. Many organisations do not have the expertise inhouse to
tackle these issues and are actively seeking security experts to help rectify
this and establish security frameworks and protocols.
Traditionally, external consultancies have been utilised to provide expertise
in this area, however there has been a noticeable shift in organisations
trying to bring this capability inhouse and build dedicated security teams.
This, in turn, equates to a more intensified search for experts in security and
cloud, with an increase in job openings for: Security Consultants, Security
Engineers, Security Architects and Chief Information Security Officers.
Due to this trend towards inhouse cyber security teams, there is a great
deal of recruitment of the above mentioned professionals, both contract and
permanent, as businesses embark on projects in security and cloud.
Organisations are moving fast to secure the best talent as most understand
that across Australia the security sector is experiencing a time of high
demand and low supply.
In this heavily candidatedriven market, employers need to move quickly if
you feel a prospective candidate fits the bill, you need to be able to interview
and offer the job quickly. In this case, the best candidates are often in the
market (gainfully employed), not on the market (unemployed).
Often you will need to ensure you are accessing the best candidates, rather
than simply those that are available to you. Access to a competent talent
pool will be crucial to finding and attracting the right candidate. Selling the
role remains an important factor in this market, as well, with a need for
employers to focus on organisational pitches.
What does this mean for employers?
Revealings from the Greythorn Market Insights & Salary Guide 2016 2017
Job security and engagement remain at high levels again this year.
With the IT security sector experiencing significant growth, there is an
abundance of interesting and challenging work for suitably qualified
professionals.

Search Methodology
1. Project Definition & ScopeGreythorn Search Consultants liaise closely with our
clients to develop a comprehensive brief for the role to
be filled, including:
Role functionality
Key objectives
Position mandate
Personality profile
Specification and an agreed list of target
companies to research/approach.
At this stage in the process, consultants identify the
critical business issues and challenges the candidate is
most likely to encounter in the position.
A briefing document for candidates will be prepared
and approved.
2. Talent MappingA comprehensive talent map will commence with our
team of dedicated researchers. This process of
candidate mapping will be divided into two parts; firstly,
the research team will provide the client with a Target
List. This is a list of target companies that could be
your direct competitors, companies in the same
geographic area or sector or any company that have
similar or interesting profiles you would be interested to
see mapped.
The Target List will form the basis for the second part of the
process: direct headhunting of suitable candidates. According
to your priorities, the research team will discreetly map people
with the right qualifications and experience within those
companies. We will then provide indicative numbers of
candidates in target sites, locations, skills and with appropriate
qualifications/clearances etc per skill category. A list of
potential candidates from the agreed target list will be provided
to the client for review.
3. Presentation to MarketExternal candidates will be confidentially approached and the
opportunity will be presented in a compelling manner that will
be agreed upon with the client. Upon engagement with the
candidate, our nominated search consultants will identify and
address any concerns through their extensive understanding of
the client. Their insight and advice is highly valued by our
candidates and it is the cornerstone of Greythorn’s credibility
and trust in the market. Each interested candidate will also
receive a copy of the briefing document.
4. Selection of Potential AppointeesA refined shortlist will be presented to the client following a
matrix of competencies and experience that are assessed as
chosen by the client. Following the presentation of this shortlist,
a comprehensive behavioural and competency based interview
will take place for each candidate. The Search Consultant will
screen and formally interview all shortlisted candidates using a
thorough interview template, which can be adapted as per the
client's request
A full candidate summary outlining personality
expectations and an overview of overall suitability to
the specific role will accompany each shortlisted
candidates application. These will be provided to the
client to asses which candidates should be interviewed.
The client are welcome to interview potential
candidates at our Greythorn offices.
5. Selection & Appointment of CandidateThorough reference checking will be conducted before
the contract and terms of employment are negotiated
with the successful candidate. All unsuccessful
candidates will be given full feedback from Greythorn.
6. Post Placement Follow UpOur commitment is maintained at regular intervals
following a hire to ensure the successful candidate is
settling into their new position and continues to make a
positive impact that exceeds our client’s expectations.
