Griffin News January 2019 NEWS AND INFORMATION FROM ÉCOLE GLENBROOK MIDDLE SCHOOL TOGETHER WE SUCCEED — ENSEMBLE ON RÉUSSITPrincipals Message Dear parents & guardians, I know this is the winter newsletter but it almost feels like it is the spring edition as I look out the window and only see snow on the mountains. I thought I would use this message to let every- one know a little bit about what is happening with our school goal. Over the last couple of years we have been focusing on strengthening our school community. We will continue to maintain this as an area of focus but we also wanted to revisit how things are going to see if there are additional areas we can develop. As a staff we went through an exercise of look- ing at What is school for ….”. We also got a chance to go through the exercise with members of our PAC at a meeting. This information was then reviewed by the team leaders to look for common points which were taken back to the whole staff. The whole staff then reviewed some of the data that helped provide a snapshot of student levels in certain academic areas and surveys that provid- ed student viewpoints on aspects of our school and their education. After further discussion by the staff, a goals committee was formed to create the wording of our goal, plan how we will support it and develop how we will know if we are having success. All of our discussion and work has brought us to the statement: Mindfulness is the awareness and caring of self, others and your surroundings. Our goal over the next two years will be to help stu- dents develop mindfulness as a way to support their learning and how they treat others in their community. We will continue to keep you up to date with our progress towards our goal in future newsletters. A very Happy New Year to you and your families, and we wish you all the best in 2019! NEWS AND INFORMATION FROM ÉCOLE GLENBROOK MIDDLE SCHOOL “TOGETHER WE SUCCEED — ENSEMBLE ON RÉUSSIT”

Principal’s Message

Dear parents & guardians,

I know this is the winter newsletter but it almost feels like it is the spring edition as I look out

the window and only see snow on the mountains. I thought I would use this message to let every-

one know a little bit about what is happening with our school goal.

Over the last couple of years we have been focusing on strengthening our school community. We

will continue to maintain this as an area of focus but we also wanted to revisit how things are going

to see if there are additional areas we can develop. As a staff we went through an exercise of look-

ing at “What is school for ….”. We also got a chance to go through the exercise with members of

our PAC at a meeting. This information was then reviewed by the team leaders to look for common

points which were taken back to the whole staff. The whole staff then reviewed some of the data

that helped provide a snapshot of student levels in certain academic areas and surveys that provid-

ed student viewpoints on aspects of our school and their education.

After further discussion by the staff, a goals committee was formed to create the wording of our

goal, plan how we will support it and develop how we will know if we are having success. All of our

discussion and work has brought us to the statement: Mindfulness is the awareness and caring of

self, others and your surroundings. Our goal over the next two years will be to help stu-

dents develop mindfulness as a way to support their learning and how they treat others in their

community. We will continue to keep you up to date with our progress towards our goal in future

newsletters.

A very Happy New Year to you and your families, and we wish you all the best in 2019!

Chris Evans, Principal

It’s time to buy your 2018-2019 yearbook! Get your hands on a copy ASAP!

Buy it online at www.jostens.ca and personalize your book with your name and some icons! OR buy it on SchoolCash Online for $40.00. Please see Ms. Jurgensen or

Mme. Gibson for more information.

A quick reminder to parents from teachers that with the fresh start of 2019, it is a good idea to check in with your

child on the state of their school supplies!

Some items that may need to be replenished include: scis-sors, glue, erasers, lined paper, pencil crayons & felts,

binders, and pencils!

Has your child checked the Lost & Found lately? We have only been back to school for 2 weeks, and already we are accumulating clothes, lunchboxes, umbrellas, and oth-er belongings! Items that remain unclaimed after a month or more get donated to char-ity, so please remind your students to check there for items that they are missing.

Reminders and Important Information 2

Pre-IB Program Applications

Information regarding the Pre-International Baccalaureate program has now been circulated to grade 8 parents via email, and information sessions regarding the program have been held.

All applications & supporting documents will be due Friday January 28 by 2:00 pm.

Have you been missing important emails from the school?

If so, we encourage you to please check your junk mail or spam filter! Because the school needs to

email such a large number of people at a time, some parents have let us know that our messages some-times get incorrectly intercepted by spam filters. If you find this is the case, please move our emails to

your inbox.

If you still are not receiving school emails and you have not been able to locate them in spam or junk, please notify the office as soon as possible. We are

happy to help you fix the issue!
