GREETINGS GRIZZLIES! Another month has passed by and as elec-tions come to a close, my term is coming to an end as well. It truly has been an honor serving all of you and watching our division grow and prosper. Give yourselves a round of applause for the exceptional work you have done; let it not be now to slide off the grid of serving as our community still needs YOU to help! Last but not least, DCON is co-minug up. I hope all of you had the opportu-nity to sign up; as exciting as any other event may be, this is one of the largest convention, population-wise, to meet new key clubbers. Our leadership team hopes to see all your beautiful faces there!

Till next time,

2012-2013 Division Tech EditorCarmen Chen

If I had one last thing to say, what would it be?

It would be that you are all amazing. Each and every Grizzly is my inspira tion. Although my term has officially come to a close, I know that I will move on in life, but will remain one with the memories we share together. Thank you for everything you have taught me, Division 27 North. Without all of you, none of our success could have been possible. It is my greatest hope to see you all continue in service and spirit. Remember that the power to change the world starts with one person, but together, we can cre-ate an even larger impact: something bigger than any of us ever imagined. Your community appreciates you. Your school appreciates you. Your family appreciates you. I, ap-preciate you.

This is farewell, but it is not goodbye.Past Lieutenant Governor Justine Chang

CLUBUPDATE

On January 18th, Key Club teamed up with Lincoln’s Plane-teers Club to clean up Sandman Park. We were given trash bags and gloves to pick up trash sur-rounding the nearby levee, and despite having to pick up trash, the members had a great time working together. On February 9th, we also volunteered at the Gospel Center Rescue Mission, where we trimmed rose bushes and raked leaves to make the campus look cleaner. We look forward to coming back to the Gospel Center Rescue Mission soon to help serve in their soup kitchens and more. Lincoln has also elected our new officers for the 2013-2014 school year! Congratulations to our publicity-elect, Casey Yep, treasurer-elect, Anthony Huynh, secretary-elect, Christian Pagala, vice-president-elect, Angela Lee, and president-elect, Celine Deleon!

ELECTION DCON...

Since the last update, Lodi has started a Mixed Bag fundraiser for those going to DCON and just for club funds. The fundraiser should be turned in tomorrow (2/11/13). We also went service-searching and have called a few places for service events. Lodi barely got their registration for DCON in, and we were unable to get our hotel reservation in on the eighth, so we’re kind of in a tight spot right now on where to stay for DCON. We’ve also held our 2013-2014 elections and our new president is Giovanni Fernandez, VP is Kar-en Le, secretary is Karen Moua and treasurer is Delaney Lund and historian is Deidre Lund. They are all very excited and waiting for the dinner to get to know the new executive board. That’s all Lodi has really kept their minds on -- DCON and the new year!

Hi Grizzlies! This past month SECA has been preparing for our club elections as well as hold-ing the actual club elections. We’re getting into training our new board (congratulations to them!). We’ve also helped out at the county’s Academic De-cathlon competitions and St. Anne’s Pub Night fundraisers. We also are planning out a Chi-potle fundraiser in the next few months.

Overall, McNair had about 18 volunteers at the Crab Feed at Hutchins Street Square where we helped set up the utensils and platter for the night as we serve appetizers and the main dish, the delicious marinated and non-marinated crabs. At the moment, we are selling Valentine Choco-late Roses and origami Kawasaki roses till Valentine’s Day. We are also featuring our annual Film Festival where everyone is wel-come to enter in the beginning of March.

Last week our election took place and candidates made their speeches. I am happy to pass the torch onto Elaine and Amy. I know they will do an excellent job running the club next year. Today our members met up at Stagg to help clean up the river. There were tons of trash scattered everywhere that it seemed like it would take forever to do. However since there were lots of peo-ple I knew we would get it done in no time. Within a few hours or so the river was sparkly clean and looked much better than be-fore. After we were done, a taco truck came by and gave all the volunteers a free taco! I thought that was very thoughtful of them to do. On the following day, we will be volunteering at the Saint Mary’s Dining Hall once again. Members really enjoy the facility and want to go back all the time. We volunteer there so much that I think the workers remember our faces. Everyone there is so friendly and I enjoy going there myself.

Paws Up in Service

Every year, it’s been a SECA Key club tradition to volunteer at the Ti-ger Aquatics. Volunteering for the Tiger Aquatics helps lessens the cost of running the event and helps it run smoother. As a volunteer we are typi-cally stationed to help run the snack bar where profits from the sales go towards future track meet. We are also runners (messenger) and hos-pitality volunteers, where we go around and provide refreshments to the coaches and timers. Know-ing that we’re volunteering to make swim meets possible for the young swimmers makes the service project worth while.

TIGER On January 26th SECA helped out at the county’s Academic Decathlon starter competition. This competition comprised of starters taking interviews, es-says, and presenting speeches as well as making impromptu speeches. We helped time in-terviews, collect essays, and proctor rooms. We also met Key Clubbers who were also in Aca-demic Decathlon. The event ran smoothly and volunteering was very enjoyable!

FUNDRAISIN’.

This project is presented and directed by Ronald E.Mcnair’s Key Club secretary, Dorothy Thai. The project consisted of making Hershey Kisses roses out of various materials: red cellophane, wooden skewers, tissue paper, and hot glue. To begin the process, two Hershey Kisses were hot glued together end to end, inserted with the skewers. There was no set system to making the roses, but there was a common belief in wrap-ping the bud with a single piece of cel-lophane or tissue paper. Larger sheets would then wrap around the covered bud. Designs varied with individual ar-tistic touches of those that volunteered. Hot glue held the entire process togeth-er. In the end of it all, love was realized as a very, very laboring doing.
