Greetings Grizzlies! Another school year has begun, and I hope all of you are pumped with griz-zly spirit! Recently our DCM was held at Peterson Park, and nonetheless, it was graamazing! With such great vibes and meeting so many new friends, I am sure this will be a fun and exciting year! As we head towards new and unpredictable prospects, I wish to see many of you grasp those open opportunities to show some service. Not only did I witness many key clubbers pick up trash that did not belong to them at DCM, I realized that you guys have so much more potential beyond what we already see! When RTC hits, let’s kick some butt and show the other divisions who the GRIZZLIES are!

LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR REMARKSDon’t, drop that Grizzly pride — aye! Don’t drop that Grizzly pride!Another month has begun. It seems like we have done so much yet there are so many things we have yet to do! A couple of weeks ago, Key Clubbers flocked to Peterson Park for the August DCM: Weenie Fest. To be hon-est, we were expecting a good number of people — but certainly not that many! More than 80 Key Clubbers joined together for a great time of food, games, and socializing: all while raising over $135.00 for the Pediat-ric Trauma Program. It is times like these that remind me of why I ran to be your Lieuten-ant Governor in the first place. Your passion, dedication, and friendship is what makes our division BEEyond amazing. I can’t wait for the MILLION waves of service we will share together! I hope to see a sea of blue at RTC; let’s show the region what Grizzlies are made of!Paws up in spirit and service,2012-2013 Lieutenant Governor Justine Chang

CLUB UPDATES

Bear Creek

Welcome to a new year of outstanding service Grizzlies! At Middle Col-lege High School, we held our first meeting of the year on August 14, 2012. We had a great turnout, and I was especially delighted to see many freshmen interested in the club and eager to join! The heat of summer is still blazing strong, so during meetings we sell water and other snacks such as chips. Each for 25 cents. It’s a simple and cheap way to get some funds going, and especially keeps our hungry students cooled off and happy after school. Currently, our board is planning our annual Installation Picnic for all members to welcome back the returningmembers and welcome the new. The picnic also gives members a chance to get to know everyone else in their club. We all have fun with games, jump houses, and delicious food!

McNair here! We had our Club Rush on the 10th where we used our big arrow signs, a cute giant grizzly bear, and our grizzly spirit to attract students’ attention. Which *drum rolls* we are proud to say, it got us 300+ signatures! It was crazily fun and it totally pumped us of how many potential Grizzlies we are hav-ing this year. We had our first meet-ing on the 14th, where we informed the attending 200+ members about the basic information about Key Club, along with the fun benefits with it. Two upcoming events we are having are on August 24 and where we are going to help out M.E.S.A., one of our school’s club group clean up their rooms for a freshly new start to the school year and on September 30, where we come and volunteer every year at the Lodi Library Fundraiser Dinner Clean-Up. McNair out.

This past month SECA volunteered at the Run for Blood with the Delta Blood Bank, in support for Dameron Hospital. A few of our members also helped out at Peyton Elementary to set-up for their new school year. Our school year just started and we’re getting ready for club rush - exciting! Our first meeting will be held shortly after. We’re still in the process of setting up tutoring volunteers with Peyton Elementary. Next month we’ll be working with Lath-rop Parks/Rec to help raise money for their Youth Advisory Commission. Looking forward to seeing

For OTC we had about ten members attend from Chavez. I found it very informational and I thought our LTG did a wonderful job. It made being a President much easier for me. At the moment our club is currently prepar-ing for club rush. There are tons of poster paper and paint. Members are gathering after school to make banners and posters. Our goal is to have at least one hundred new members join Key Club this year. We hope to get a lot of freshmans to join. Hopefully we are able to achieve this goal very easily. The officers and I are discussing on what to fundraise for PTP. At first we didn’t have a clue on what to do but eventually we figured it out. We decided to sell glow sticks during throw down and at other events. I’m positive lots of people will want one. We may also have a car wash but it’s difficult to get hold of a place with a drain. I’m sure we’ll find a way around that. Selling cookies and candies seem like a great idea as well. We are also trying to find some community service opportunities for our members. Most likely we will team up with the Salvation Army. Many members enjoy working at this remarkable place. Since the holiday sea-son is ahead we are going to contact Barnes and Noble earlier than usual. We want to make sure that there is a spot for us to wrap. At the moment we are promoting the August DCM. I’m hoping that there will be many at-tendants from Chavez and that they’ll enjoy themselves. It seems fun and I can’t wait to go!

Janis Ho,LincolnBack in July, several Key Club officers, along with a few club mem-bers, attended the division’s Officers Training Conference, where we received valuable information on fulfilling our duties and how to be awesome members of Key Club. We enjoyed all the fun and informative workshops, and I intend on sharing some of what I learned from OTC with my home club once school for Lincoln resumes. With Fall Rally North coming up soon in October, my officers and I have been brainstorming ways to raise money for PTP. Our ideas have included selling key chains to the club and school, and having bake sales! Along with brain-storming ideas to raise money for PTP, we have been discussing plans for the school year, of which include recruiting members and how to efficiently run the club. We are also excited for the Weenie Fest August DCM this Saturday! 05

On August 4th at the Stockton Ballpark, a few of our fellow members, including myself, volunteered at the First Annual Run for Blood which was sponsored by Delta Blood Bank. This event was created to support the Dameron Hospital Foundation by having participants join to-gether in a 5k run/walk around the Down-town Stockton area. A few of us helped cheer on and encourage the runners while they ran/walked their 5k. All of them did a G-DOUBLE O-D J-O-B GOOD JOB, GOOD JOB! I had a lot of fun doing this because I liked seeing the smile on the runners’ faces when-ever we’d cheer, dance, or high five them as they flew passed us. Also, a few members of our crew stayed behind to help monitor the snack/refreshment tables. After every-one reached the finish line, they rewarded the winners and everyone had a great time enjoying the music and the goodies each of us received! A few of us also stayed behind to help with clean up. This involved loading boxes into trucks and cleaning up the snack/refreshment area. Overall, this was a really fun experience and I’d definitely volunteer again!

Member of the Month: Grizzly Dedication

A few Key Clubbers and I volunteered at Peyton Elementary to help set-up for the new school year. We mainly worked in the office, filing papers and making packets. We made around 800 back-to-school packets among the four of us. It took us about six hours, and we worked almost the whole time. The process was pretty tiring, but the secretary we were working with was incredibly kind and thankful for our help - it made everything worth-while. They were very appreciative and made me feel good... oh, so good! Peyton Elementary

What’s

Being in Key Club helps you bond with not only your peers and the commu-nity, but also your division and beyond. These friendships may last a lifetime. Tuesday meetings after school are best when there are cheer battles that lead up to Fall Rally, an anticipated event for most key clubbers. Enthu-siasm echoes from wall to wall. Key club encourages spirit and altruism. As a member, you take great pride in wearing your division’s shirt. It evokes a sense of commitment to the service of others. Key club makes community service a must in life, and spreads hap-piness, one event at a time.

AUGUST DCM recap

LikeOn Saturday, Key Clubbers gathered at Peterson Park in Lodi for our August DCM! With attendees from every school in the division (including the newly char-tered Lodi High’s Key Club), we had an amazing turnout of over 80 people. The evening was filled with food, fun, and just good old-fashioned Key Club bond-ing. Our LTG, Justine, kicked the evening off with updates. Those who were there might remember a huge tree branch deciding to randomly break during this time. Although it was fairly large and blocked the street, it wasn’t much of a problem because a bunch of key club-bers worked together to help move it off the road. That’s grizzly teamwork at its finest! We then moved on to some ice-breakers and games, such as silent cha-rades and relay races. After all those activities, everybody had worked up a grizzly appetite. For a minimum do-nation of $3 towards PTP, soda, water, hot dogs, chips, and barbecue wings were available. Overall, it was a fan-tastic evening of grizzly bonding. Thank you to those who came and made my evening wonderful. It was a night well-spent. Then again, any time spent with key clubbers is time well-spent!

Upcoming Events

D7S Lieutenant GovernorHello beautiful members of Region Sixteen! My name is Stanton Rucker, the lieutenant governor for Division 7 South and I would like to welcome you to the 2012-2013 Region Training Conference on Sep-tember 29th! Now you may ask “What is this conference you speak of?” well my friend, let me tell you! Region Sixteen hosts this conference once a year to prepare you for the future, both Key Club related and personal. It contains a plethora of valuable workshops that will not only educate you about Key Club, but they will also develop the leadership skills you possess. For example, you may walk into the conference afraid of speaking in public and leave as the most influential public speaker in America. Though that is a little exaggerated, we assure you that there are a MILLION opportunities awaiting you with the information you receive. Re-member to bring a writing utensil and paper as you can share ideas with other people and recruit members to Key Club! However, this is not the only exciting part as you are able to network with Key Club members and advisors from Divi sion 7 North, 7 South, 27 North, 27 South, 44 North and 44 South whom share the same aspirations as you! As a special guest, Cali-Nev-Ha District Governor Alyssa Yocom will attend and she is excited to see your gorgeous faces. To participate in this inspiring event, you must RSVP with your club, so register early! We highly encourage you to join us as there are hundreds of indi viduals waiting to meet you, a sub stantial amount of ideas waiting to be shared and a million memories wait ing to be created. Remember, the spread of an idea starts with a few, but as that idea grows, it may save millions.

Fall Rally North

Every year, our district, Cal-Nev-Ha also known as CNH, hosts two fall rallies, Fall Rally North and Fall Rally South. This upcoming fall, Fall Rally North will be held on October 27 at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. What exactly is Fall Rally? Fall Rally is when Lieutenant Gov-ernors and the Executive officers are auc-tioned off to divisions. The winning division will be allowed to spend a certain amount of time with the officer(s) that the division bought. Funds from the auction will go to the Pediatric Trauma Program, also known as PTP, which is a program that helps reduce the number of children who are killed/injured by trauma. Not only is Fall Rally an auction, but it is also a time where Key Clubbers from different divisions meet new people, and cheer their hearts out. After cheering ses-sions, Key Clubbers may ride on various rides and see a variety of animals at Six Flags. And of course, Key Clubbers and other indi-viduals enjoy asking the “How do you feel?” cheer to who they meet and/or see.

Social NetworkingRegulations

Hey Grizzlies! It is time to remind ourselves that using Facebook as a communication resource is certainly a privilege and should not be abused. You’ve probably hear “Facebook is not an appropriate forum for Key Club business, including the selling of merchandise” many times. However, the term “Key Club” business doesn’t just refer to things involving money. To clarify, how can we differentiate what is appropriate and what is not?

APPROPRIATE APPROPRIATENOT

•Promotion of Key Club or service related events - this is pretty self explanatory. If it’s not about Key Club or helping the community, then it’s probably not okay. Of course, socializing and saying hello in a non-of-fensive way is acceptable, but promoting a local dance club is not.•Asking questions, bonding with other Key Clubbers, or making suggestions and comments!•Showing your Key Club spirit!

•Discussing plans for an event - this should be done behind the scenes through email.Showing favoritism when voting is not okay. Keep in mind that when you voice you choice, you’re showing bias and someone who submitted something may feel disheartened because you did not like their submission.•Anything including money! No selling, purchasing, or promoting the availability of a merchandise.•Being exclusive. We are all one Grizzly family and we want to make sure every-one is included!•Profanity or inappropriate graphics. Re-member that we are service leaders and we must be positive role models wherever we go!•Publicly complaining or arguing with a moderator/person of authority. If you have any comments or complaints, please contact LTG Justine at [email protected]
