REASONS FOR GROUP FORMATION

Most people spend every day as part of a group, be

it school, friends, work or family groups.

Group is defined as a number of people or things

that are located close together or are considered or

classed together

LOCALITY/GEOGRAPHY

Individuals may join a group based on the fact that

it is in your local community. This could be achieved

through sporting teams

GENDER

It is possible for individuals to be grouped on the

gender. This could be done through school, sporting

teams, or facilities such as public toilets.

SHARED INTEREST/COMMON GOAL

These forms of groups are formed as members

have a common interest such as a church group of

chess club.

SECURITY

Some people become parts of groups for a sense of

community, for example a neighborhood watch.

Groups may be formed based on a persons

sexuality. For example a group of gays or lesbians

This type of group is formed in response to

particular needs. For example groups that came

together to help those effected by the Queensland
