Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory
1. Language development takes place in the social interactions between individuals. SLA takes place through conversational activities.
2.Interaction- He always grabs the chance to talk with foreigners and he always tries to find a foreigner to have a conversation. Through conversations he tries to learn everything he wants.
---zone of proximal development (ZPD)
Research shows that native speakers consistently modify their speeches in sustained conversation with non-native speakers.
Modified interaction involves linguistic simplifications and conversational modifications- as a necessary mechanism for the L2 acquisition.
An example- He ate dinner with an English,
during the conversation he made a mistake
put …down to ( 將...歸咎於...上 )
He said put ….down on, then the English native speaker corrected him immediately.
